  • Bacillus Calmette-Guerin(BCG) lymphadenitis is a complication of post-BCG vaccination and its treatment is still controversial. Eighty patients who had been operated for BCG lymphadenitis from 1987 to 1996 were reviewed. Thirty-one of them were treated with antituberculous drugs(mean duration: 3 months) preoperatively and 49 patients were not given preoperative antituberculous medication. No one was treated with antituberculous drugs postoperatively. Operation methods were excision(72) and partial excision with curettage(8). There was no statistical difference in recurrence rate between groups In two patients(2.5 %) treated with preoperative antituberculous drugs, the lesions recurred after operation. The results suggest that preoperative antituberculous medication does not play any role in the treatment of BCG lymphadenitis and in preventing recurrence in surgically excised cases.

  • On 147 patients with early laryngeal cancer undertaken surgery or radiation therapy at Seoul National University Hospital from January 1987 through December 1994, retrospective analysis with reviewing the medical record was performed. The number of recurred cases was twenty six. The recurrence rate was higher in the cases with radiation therapy than in those with surgical therapy. And the recurrence rate was remarkable in the cases with T2 in supraglottic cancer and in those with T1 in glottic cancer. Of the patients undertaken surgery, recurrence rate was higher in the patients with laser operation than in those with other procedures. It was, however, lower in the patients with laryngofissure with cordectomy than in those with other surgical techniques. The overall three year disease free survival rate was 72 % in early laryngeal carcinoma.

  • A six-year-old, female Jin-do dog was referred for the recurrence of vaginal prolapse. Less than 7 months previously, the dog with the vaginal prolapse had been treated with hormone therapy because ultrasonography had identified a single follicular cyst in the left ovary. Three months after the first visit, the dog came into heat and the vaginal prolapse recurred. Ultrasonography showed multiple follicular cysts in both ovaries and radioimmunoassay detected a plasma estradiol-$17{\beta}$ concentration of 13.3 pg/ml. Treatment involved the repositioning of the vaginal prolapsed, ovariohysterectomy and the resection of the protruding tissue. The dog had been completely recovered two months later after the treatment.

  • Eighteen multiparous and 8 nulliparous cows with cystic ovarian disease (19 having follicular cysts, 7 with luteal cysts) were administered either 3000 I. U. HCG or $300{\mu}g$ LHRH. Ten animals responded satisfactorily leading to normal estrus within a period of 15 to 30 days and subsequent conception. In 8 animals cysts recurred and no effect of treatment was observed in 3 patients. Plasma progesterone concentration was significantly lower in animals having follicular cysts compared to those with luteal cysts.

  • Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans[DFSP] is an uncommon fibrohistiocytic tumor characterized by aggressive local invasion and consequent local recurrence rather than distant metastasis. We present a case of a 51-year-old male patient with a typical cutaneous DFSP, which showed local recurrences and distant metastasis to the central nervous system[CNS] and the lung after 15 years from the initial diagnosis. CNS metastatic lesions recurred in 5 months after surgical resection of the first CNS lesion. These metastatic tumors were treated by open surgery and gamma-knife radiosurgery. Despite continuous medication of oral chemotherapeutic agent, the patient died during 1-year follow-up period.

  • Kimura's disease is a rare disorder which predominantly involves the head and neck region can cause eosinophilia in peripheral blood. It has been treated with steroids, surgical excision, irradiation, cryotherapy, and laser. The lesions have a tendency to recur after steroid and surgery. We reviewed 2 patients with Kimura's disease who recurred. because they were resistant steroid therapy and surgery, and treated succesfully conventional radiation therapy.

  • Fifty six dogs diagnosed with intervertebral disk disease between January 1999 and August 2001 were reviewed to characterize signalments and prognosis. Seventy-five percent was chondrodystrophoid breeds (42 dogs). Mean age was 5.1$\pm$3.0 year-old and fifty-four percent had acute onset. Interspaces between eleventh thoracic vertebrae and fourth lumbar vertebrae were affected most commonly. Success rate of conservative treatment to dogs with paresis was 83% and that of operation to dogs with paralysis was 67%. Six dogs were recurred and 50% of them had recovered again. There was significant correlation between success rate of treatment and the degree of clinical signs but there was no significant correlation between success rate of treatment and rate of onset, status of clinical signs, duration of clinical signs.

  • We experienced 53 cases of tuberculous peripleural abscess, which had been proved by histopathological study, from Jan. 1980 to Dec. 1988. In 53 cases of abscesses, mean age was 25 years which was ranged from 1 year and 3 months old boy to 61 years old female [Male: Female=1.4: 1]. The location of the lesion was mainly right-sided [62%] and lateral predilection [53%]. In most of cases [85%], there was history of pulmonary tuberculosis and pleural thickening, but negative mycobacterial culture in the pus. Rib involved cases, confirmed by histopathologic examination, were 38.9% of all cases, which were all removed during operation. Combined pathologic lesions were all cleared at the same time, principally. There were 8 cases of recurred, of which at the same sided, 7 cases and contralateral sided, 1 case.

  • We have experienced a case of squamous cell carcinoma of lung mixed with malignant Iymphoma. The patient was a 19-years-old male. He was a non-smoker. Right pneumonectomy was done. We could not find any evidences of metastasis. The postoperative course was uneventful The tissue diagnosis was confirmed by immunohistochemical method. The Iymphoma recurred at 3 months after operation and the patient was dead at 5 months After operation because of respiratory failure.

  • We report a redo coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in a 55-year-old man. Angina recurred 7 years after the initial surgery. Coronary angiography showed all patent grafts except a faint visualization of the in situ right gastroepiploic artery (RGEA) graft, which was anastomosed to the posterior descending coronary artery, associated with celiac axis stenosis. Redo-CABG was performed at postoperative 10 years because of aggravated angina and decreased perfusion of the inferior wall in the myocardial single photon emission computed tomography. The saphenous vein graft was interposed between the 2 in situ grafts used previously; the right internal thoracic artery and RGEA grafts. Angina was relieved and myocardial perfusion was improved.
