  • The paradigm of Internet-of-things(IoT) systems is changing from a cloud-based system to an edge-based system to solve delays caused by network congestion, server overload and security issues due to data transmission. However, edge-based IoT systems have fatal weaknesses such as lack of performance and flexibility due to various limitations. To improve performance, application-specific hardware can be implemented in the edge device, but performance cannot be improved except for specific applications due to a fixed function. This paper introduces a edge-centric metamorphic IoT(mIoT) platform that can use a variety of hardware through on-demand partial reconfiguration despite the limited hardware resources of the edge device, so we can increase the performance and flexibility of the edge device. According to the experimental results, the edge-centric mIoT platform that executes the reconfiguration algorithm at the edge was able to reduce the number of server accesses by up to 82.2% compared to previous studies in which the reconfiguration algorithm was executed on the server.

  • This study develops an expert system which solves the problems of the MTr/feeder overloads and the feeder constraints in automated radial distribution systems. Then, the objective is to perform the network reconfiguration by switching the tie and sectionalizing switches which eliminates the system violation, while achieving the load balance of the MTrs/feeders. To reduce the search space, an expert system based on heuristic rules is presented, and implemented in AI language Prolog. This system adopts the best-first tree search technique. The computational results are also prepared to show the performance of the heuristic algorithm developed.

  • In this paper, we review the basic concept of Evolvable Hardware first. And we examine genetic algorithm processor and hardware reconfiguration method and implementation. By considering complexity and performance of hardware at the same time, we design genetic algorithm processor using modularization and parallel processing method. And we design frame that has connection structure and logic block on FPGA, and embody reconfigurable hardware that do so that this frame may be reconstructed by RAM. Also we implemented ECANS that information processing system such as living creatures'brain using this hardware reconfiguration method. And we apply ECANS which is implemented using the concept of Evolvable Hardware to time-series prediction problem in order to verify the effectiveness.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to search candidates of network reconfiguration to restore distribution system with distributed energy resources using a level-based tree search algorithm. First, we introduce a method of expressing distribution network with distributed energy resources for fault restoration, and to represent the distribution network into a simplified graph. Second, we explain the tree search algorithm, and introduce a method of performing the tree search on the basis of search levels, which we call a level-based tree search in this paper. Then, we propose a candidate search method for fault restoration, and explain it using an example. Finally, we verify the proposed method using computer simulations.

  • As the market of express delivery services expands rapidly, delivery service companies are exposed to severe competition. As a result of the surplus of delivery companies, they are struggling with remaining competitive at a reasonable price with appropriate level of customer satisfaction. To cope with competition pressures, a strategic alliance is suggested as an effective solution to the challenges faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in express delivery services. Therefore, this study suggests a combined optimization and simulation approach to the reconfiguration of an express delivery service network for strategic alliance with respect to strategy partnership of closing/keeping service centers among companies involved and adjustments of their cutoff times. An illustrative numerical example is presented to demonstrate the practicality and efficiency of the approach.

  • We completed a new cluster system based on WDM by proposing virtual topology reconfiguration schemes. The key idea of the proposed scheme Is to construct a set with the longest chains of requests of connecting nodes which need to be assigned a wavelength. All the sets have no common factor, that is, there is no duplicated link among the requests of connecting. After making the set satisfying this condition, we could assign a wavelength to per corresponding set. We could reconfigure a virtual topology with this scheme collectively. we compared our scheme to existing approaches by the OWns simulation tool. As the results, we gained improved performances, reducing 10% of blocking rate and improving 30% of ADM utilization in terms of the blocking probability and the ADM utilization.

  • In this paper, fault tolerant mechanisms are presented for a servo manipulator system designed to operate in a hot cell. A hot cell is a sealed and shielded room to handle radioactive materials, and it is dangerous for people to work in the hot cell. So, remote operations are necessary to handle radioactive materials in the hot cell. KAERI has developed a servo manipulator system to perform such remote operations. However, since electric components such as servo motors are weak to radiations, fault tolerant mechanisms have to be considered. For fault tolerance of the servo manipulator system, hardware and software redundancy have been considered. In case of hardware, radioactive resistant electric components such as cables and connectors have been adopted and motors driving a transport have been duplicated. In case of software, a reconfiguration algorithm accommodating one motor's failure has been developed. The algorithm uses redundant axis to recover the end effector's motion in spite of one motor's failure.

For fault tolerance of the servo manipulator system, duplication mechanism increasing the reliability of the transport's driving motors and reconfiguration algorithm accommodating the slave's motor failure have been presented. The reconfiguration algorithm recovering the end effector's motion in spite of one motor's failure is based on control allocation redistributing redundant axes. The constrained optimization method and pseudo inverse method have been adopted for control allocation. Simulation examples and real test results have been presented to verify the Proposed methods.
