  • The explosive growth of information has been difficult for users to get an appropriate information in time. The various ways of new services to solve problems has been provided. As customized service is being magnified, the personalized recommendation system has been important issue. Collaborative filtering system in the recommendation system is widely used, and it is the most successful process in the recommendation system. As the recommendation is based on customers' profile, there can be sparsity and cold-start problems. In this paper, we propose personalized movie recommendation system using collaborative filtering techniques and context-based techniques. The context-based technique is the recommendation method that considers user's environment in term of time, emotion and location, and it can reflect user's preferences depending on the various environments. In order to utilize the context-based technique, this paper uses the human emotion, and uses movie reviews which are effective way to identify subjective individual information. In this paper, this proposed method shows outperforming existing collaborative filtering methods.

  • A recommendation system, which is an application area of e-CRM in e-commerce environment, provides individualized goods recommendation service that meets the demand of individual users. In general, existing recommendation systems require extensive historic user information in application domains. However, the method of recommendation based on static historic user information needs to respond flexibly to users'demand that changes rapidly and sensitively over time and in domains including a variety of users. In addition, it is difficult to recommend for new users who are not fall into any of existing domains. To overcome such limitations and provide flexible recommendation service, this study designed and implemented CPAR (Customer Preference Analysis Recommender) system that supports customer preference analysis and filter management. The filtering management capacity of the present system eases the necessity of extensive information about new users. In addition, CPAR system was implemented in XML-based wireless Internet environment for recommendation service independent from platforms and not limited by time and place.

  • This paper proposes a semantic recommendation technique for a personalized e-commerce portal. Semantic recommendation is achieved by utilizing the attributes of products. The semantic similarity of the products is merged with the rating information of the products to provide an accurate recommendation. The recommendation technique also analyzes various attitudes of the customer to evaluate the implicit rating of products. Attitudes are classifies into three types such as "purchasing product", "adding product to shopping cart", and "viewing the product information." We implicitly track customer attitude to estimate the rating of products for recommending products. Also we implement a session validation process to identify the valid sessions that are highly important for giving an accurate recommendation. Our recommendation technique shows a high degree of accuracy as we use age groupings of customers with similar preferences. The experimental section shows that our proposed recommendation method outperforms well known collaborative filtering methods not only for the existing customer, but also for the new user with no previous purchase record.

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid music recommendation system combining users' listening habits and tag information in a social music site. Most of commercial music recommendation systems recommend music items based on the number of plays and explicit ratings of a song. However, the approach has some difficulties in recommending new items with only a few ratings or recommending items to new users with little information. To resolve the problem, we use tag information which is generated by collaborative tagging. According to the meaning of tags, a weighted value is assigned as the score of a tag of an music item. By combining the score of tags and the number of plays, user profiles are created and collaborative filtering algorithm is executed. For performance evaluation, precision, recall, and F-measure are calculated using the listening habit-based recommendation, the tag score-based recommendation, and the hybrid recommendation, respectively. Our experiments show that the hybrid recommendation system outperforms the other two approaches.

  • The current available recommendation systems for mobile games have a couple of problems. First, there is no knowing whether they make a pattern recommendation for games that actual users prefer or for games that they are simply interested in. It is also impossible to know the subjective preference of users in a direct manner. An AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process)-based recommendation system for mobile games was thus developed to reflect the subjective preference of users directly, but it had its own problem since the degree of preference could vary among users in spite of the same scale for their preferable items. In an effort to solve those problems, this study implemented a recommendation system for mobile games by applying triangular fuzzy numbers of the Fuzzy-AHP technique and the independence of evaluation items in the Bayesian Network. The findings show that the proposed recommendation system recorded the highest accuracy of recommendation results and the highest level of user satisfaction.

  • Recommendation systems play a significant role in providing personalized information to users, with enhanced satisfaction and reduced information overload. Since the mid-1990s, many studies have been conducted on recommendation systems, but few have examined the recommendations of information from people in the online social networking environment. In this paper, we present a hybrid recommendation method that combines both the traditional system of content-based techniques to improve specialization, and the recently developed system of social network-based techniques to best overcome a few limitations of the traditional techniques, such as the cold-start problem. By suggesting a state-of-the-art method, this research will help users in online social networks view more personalized information with less effort than before.

  • After observing that most tourists plan to complete their visits to multiple cultural heritage sites within one day, we surmised that for many museum visitors, the foremost thought is with regard to the amount of time is to be spent at each location and how they can maximize their enjoyment at a site while still balancing their travel itinerary? Recommendation systems in e-commerce are built on knowledge about the users' previous purchasing history; recommendation systems for museums, on the other hand, do not have an equivalent data source available. Recent solutions have incorporated advanced technologies such as algorithms that rely on social filtering, which builds recommendations from the nearest identified similar user. Our paper proposes a different approach, and involves providing dynamic recommendations that deploy social filtering as well as content-based filtering using term frequency-inverse document frequency. The main challenge is to overcome a cold start, whereby no information is available on new users entering the system, and thus there is no strong background information for generating the recommendation. In these cases, our solution deploys statistical methods to create a recommendation, which can then be used to gather data for future iterations. We are currently running a pilot test at Chao Samphraya national museum and have received positive feedback to date on the implementation.

  • The tendency of buyers of web information is changing from the cost-effectiveness to the cost-satisfaction. There is such tendency in the recommendation of multimedia contents, some of which are folksonomy-based recommendation services using mood. However, there is a problem that they does not consider synonyms. In order to solve this problem, some studies have solved the problem by defining 12 moods of Thayer model as AV values (Arousal and Valence), but the recommendation performance is lower than that of a keyword-based method at the recall level 0.1. In this paper, we propose a method based on using mood vector of multimedia contents. The method can solve the synonym problem while maintaining the same performance as the keyword-based method even at the recall level 0.1. Also, for performance analysis, we compare the proposed method with an existing method based on AV value and a keyword-based method. The result shows that the proposed method outperform the existing methods.

  • Recently an intelligent system is developed for the service what users want not a passive system which just answered user's request. This intelligent system is used for personalized recommendation system and representative techniques are content-based and collaborative filtering. In this study, we propose a prediction system which is based on the techniques of recommendation system using a collaborative filtering and a fuzzy system to solve the collaborative filtering problems. In order to verify the prediction system, we used the data that is user's rating about movies. We predicted the user's rating using this data. The accuracy of this prediction system is determined by computing the RMSE(root mean square error) of the system's prediction against the actual rating about the each movie and is compared with the existing system. Thus, this prediction system can be applied to base technology of recommendation system and also recommendation of multimedia such as music and books.

  • Among various recommendation techniques, neighborhood-based Collaborative Filtering (CF) techniques have been one of the most widely used and best performing techniques in literature and industry. This paper proposes new approaches that can enhance the neighborhood-based CF techniques by identifying a few best neighbors (the most similar users to a target user) more accurately with more information about neighbors. The proposed approaches put more weights to the users who have more items co-rated by the target user in similarity computation, which can help to better understand the preferences of neighbors and eventually improve the recommendation quality. Experiments using movie rating data empirically demonstrate simultaneous improvements in both recommendation accuracy and diversity. In addition to the typical single rating setting, the proposed approaches can be applied to the multi-criteria rating setting where users can provide more information about their preferences, resulting in further improvements in recommendation quality. We finally introduce a single metric that measures the balance between accuracy and diversity and discuss potential avenues for future work.
