  • A robust speech recognition technology is required that does not degrade the performance of speech recognition and the quality of the speech when speech recognition is performed in an actual environment of the speech mixed with noise. With the development of such speech recognition technology, it is necessary to develop an application that achieves stable and high speech recognition rate even in a noisy environment similar to the human speech spectrum. Therefore, this paper proposes a speech enhancement algorithm that processes a noise suppression based on the MMSA-STSA estimation algorithm, which is a short-time spectral amplitude method based on the error of the least mean square. This algorithm is an effective nonlinear speech enhancement algorithm based on a single channel input and has high noise suppression performance. Moreover this algorithm is a technique that reduces the amount of distortion of the speech based on the statistical model of the speech. In this experiment, in order to verify the effectiveness of the MMSA-STSA estimation algorithm, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by comparing the input speech waveform and the output speech waveform.

  • In order to judge that whether the vehicles in different images which are captured by surveillance cameras represent the same vehicle or not, we proposed a novel vehicle face recognition algorithm based on improved Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (NMF), different from traditional vehicle recognition algorithms, there are fewer effective features in vehicle face image than in whole vehicle image in general, which brings certain difficulty to recognition. The innovations mainly include the following two aspects: 1) we proposed a novel idea that the vehicle type can be determined by a few key regions of the vehicle face such as logo, grille and so on; 2) Through adding weight, sparseness and classification property constraints to the NMF model, we can acquire the effective feature bases that represent the key regions of vehicle face image. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm not only achieve a high correct recognition rate, but also has a strong robustness to some non-cooperative factors such as illumination variation.

  • Counters for the various kinds of banknotes require high-speed distinctive point extraction and recognition. In this paper we propose a new point extraction and recognition algorithm for Euro banknotes. For distinctive point extraction we use a coordinate data extraction method from specific parts of a banknote representing the same color. To recognize banknotes, we trained 5 neural networks. One is used for inserting direction and the others are used for face value. The algorithm is designed to minimize recognition time by using a minimal amount of recognition data. The simulated results show a high recognition rate and a low training period. The proposed method can be applied to high speed banknote counting machines.

  • The process of character recognition goes through 5 steps; image acquisition, character region extraction, preprocessing, character region segmentation, character recognition. Therefore the final recognition rate of character recognition is directly affected by the performance of each step. This paper is a leading research for object recognition using image processing algorithm which is one of the field of study in computer vision. And this paper will suggest an algorithm to extract the portion of number chain, which is part of the research embodying a system to perceive the data of manufacture and the name of the producer on the wrapping of groceries. In addition, this can extract the number chain comparatively accurate without using many complex algorithm by diving and extracting the moving number region at the same time.

  • Due to the development of video and optical technology today, video equipments are being used in a variety of fields such as identification, security maintenance, and factory automation systems that generate products. In this paper, we investigate an algorithm that effectively recognizes an experimental object in an input image with a partial problem due to the mechanical problem of the input imaging device. The object recognition algorithm proposed in this paper moves and rotates the vertices constituting the outline of the experimental object to the positions of the respective vertices constituting the outline of the DB model. Then, the discordance values between the moved and rotated experimental object and the corresponding DB model are calculated, and the minimum discordance value is selected. This minimum value is the final discordance value between the experimental object and the corresponding DB model, and the DB model with the minimum discordance value is selected as the recognition result for the experimental object. The proposed object recognition method obtains satisfactory recognition results using only partial information of the experimental object.

  • A 3D model based approach for a face representation and recognition algorithm has been investigated as a robust solution for pose and illumination variation. Since a generative 3D face model consists of a large number of vertices, a 3D model based face recognition system is generally inefficient in computation time and complexity. In this paper, we propose a novel 3D face representation algorithm based on a pixel to vertex map (PVM) to optimize the number of vertices. We explore shape and texture coefficient vectors of the 3D model by fitting it to an input face using inverse compositional image alignment (ICIA) to evaluate face recognition performance. Experimental results show that the proposed face representation and recognition algorithm is efficient in computation time while maintaining reasonable accuracy.

  • This paper describes a implementation of virtual interactive interview system. A hand motion recognition algorithm based on the particle filters is applied for this system. The particle filter is well operated for human hand motion recognition than any other recognition algorithm. Through the experiments, we show that the proposed scheme is stable and works well in virtual interview system's environments.

  • In this study, the applicability of SOM(Self Organizing Map) algorithm to partial discharge pattern recognition have been investigated. For the purpose, using acquired data from the artificial defects in GIS, SOM algorithm which has some advantages such as data accumulation ability and the degradation trend trace ability was compared with conventionally used BP(Back Propagation) algorithm. As a result, basically BP algorithm was found out to be better than SOM algorithm. Therefore, it is needed to apply SOM algorithm in combination with BP algorithm in order to improve on-site applicability using the advantages of SOM. Also, for the pattern recognition by use of PRPDA(Phase Resolved Partial Discharge Analysis) it is required the normalization of the PRPDA graph. However, in case of the normalization both BP and SOM algorithm have shown worse results, so that it is required further study to solve the problem.

  • This paper is about the personal identification algorithm using an ECG that has been studied by a few researchers recently. Previously published algorithm can be classified as two methods. One is the method that analyzes ECG features and the other is the morphological analysis of ECG. The main characteristic of proposed algorithm uses together two methods. The algorithm consists of training and testing procedures. In training procedure, the features of all recognition objects' ECG were extracted and the PCA was performed for morphological analysis of ECG. In testing procedure, 6 candidate ECG's were chosen by morphological analysis and then the analysis of features among candidate ECG's was performed for final recognition. We choose 18 ECG files from MIT-BIH Normal Sinus Rhythm Database for estimating algorithm performance. The algorithm extracts 100 heartbeats from each ECG file, and use 40 heartbeats for training and 60 heartbeats for testing. The proposed algorithm shows clearly superior performance in all ECG data, amounting to 90.96% heartbeat recognition rate and 100% ECG recognition rate.

  • Abstract- In distant-talking environments, speech recognition performance degrades significantly due to noise and reverberation. Recent work of Michael L. Selzer shows that in microphone array speech recognition, the word error rate can be significantly reduced by adapting the beamformer weights to generate a sequence of features which maximizes the likelihood of the correct hypothesis. In this approach, called Likelihood Maximizing Beamforming algorithm (Limabeam), one of the method to implement this Limabeam is an UnSupervised Limabeam(USL) that can improve recognition performance in any situation of environment. From our investigation for this USL, we could see that because the performance of optimization depends strongly on the transcription output of the first recognition step, the output become unstable and this may lead lower performance. In order to improve recognition performance of USL, some post-filter techniques can be employed to obtain more correct transcription output of the first step. In this work, as a post-filtering technique for first recognition step of USL, we propose to add a Wiener-Filter combined with Feature Weighted Malahanobis Distance to improve recognition performance. We also suggest an alternative way to implement Limabeam algorithm for Hidden Markov Network (HM-Net) speech recognizer for efficient implementation. Speech recognition experiments performed in real distant-talking environment confirm the efficacy of Limabeam algorithm in HM-Net speech recognition system and also confirm the improved performance by the proposed method.
