  • Since the World Health Organization identified interprofessional education (IPE) as an important component in primary health care in the 1980s, medical and health sciences educators have continued to debate factors for implementing effective IPE in the classroom. Although IPE research is widespread internationally, few studies have been done in South Korea. This study explored the current status of IPE and examined factors that influence IPE in South Korea. A total of 30 (70%) out of 41 medical education experts in medical schools participated. Forty-seven percent of the participants reported that they allocated less than 5% of their time implementing IPE in the curriculum of their schools throughout the 4 years of medical school. Although all experts (100%) agreed that IPE is essential for medical students, they expressed practical difficulties in implementing IPE in the current education system. Factors that influence IPE are scheduling and curriculum (e.g., rigid curriculum vs. providing learning environment) and attitudes (e.g., lack of reciprocal respect vs. willingness to change). In addition, participants reported that communication skills and collaborative practice employing clinical practice or role-playing would be appropriate education methods and content for IPE in the future. The findings of this study provide a foundation for the implementation of IPE in South Korea. Future research directions for IPE in medical, nursing, and pharmacy schools are discussed.

  • Mitochondrial dysfunction is closely associated with reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and oxidative stress in cells. On the other hand, modulation of the cellular antioxidant defense system by changes in the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) content is largely unknown. To determine the relationship between the cellular mtDNA content and defense system against oxidative stress, this study examined a set of myoblasts containing a depleted or reverted mtDNA content. A change in the cellular mtDNA content modulated the expression of antioxidant enzymes in myoblasts. In particular, the expression and activity of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase were inversely correlated with the mtDNA content in myoblasts. The depletion of mtDNA decreased both the reduced glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG) slightly, whereas the cellular redox status, as assessed by the GSH/GSSG ratio, was similar to that of the control. Interestingly, the steady-state level of the intracellular ROS, which depends on the reciprocal actions between ROS generation and detoxification, was reduced significantly and the lethality induced by $H_2O_2$ was alleviated by mtDNA depletion in myoblasts. Therefore, these results suggest that the ROS homeostasis and antioxidant enzymes are modulated by the cellular mtDNA content and that the increased expression and activity of GPx and catalase through the depletion of mtDNA are closely associated with an alleviation of the oxidative stress in myoblasts.

  • Material characteristics and lifetime evaluation are very important in design procedure to assure the safety and reliability of the rubber components. In this paper, the material test and accelerated heat aging test were carried out to predict the useful life of NBR and EPDM rubber mount for a compression motor which is used in a refrigerator. In order to investigate the effects of heat-aging on the material properties, crosslink density, modulus at 100% strain, stress-strain curves were obtained from uniaxial and equi-biaxial tensile tests. The change of compression set were used for assessment of the useful life and the time to threshold value were plotted against the reciprocal of absolute temperature to give the Arrhenius plot. The useful life at variable temperatures are obtained in the Arrhenius relationship.

  • The solubility of $TiO_2$ in $NaF-CaF_2-BaF_2$ ternary eutectic melts was investigated at the temperature range of $1025-1150^{\circ}C$. The least-squares equation was obtained from the relationship between the reciprocal temperature and the natural logarithm of the titanium concentration in the melts saturated with $TiO_2$. The corresponding partial molar enthalpy of dissolution of $TiO_2$ was found to be 188 kJ/mol. The titanium saturation concentration was 3.73 wt% at $1100^{\circ}C$. From the titanium concentration change with the added amount of $TiO_2$ at different holding time after a final stirring, it was found that not only complete dissolution of $TiO_2$ but also enough sedimentation of excessive $TiO_2$ should be guaranteed to obtain more reliable solubility data. The holding time of 10 h was found to be enough for the excessive $TiO_2$ particles to settle down in our experimental conditions. It is noteworthy that in case of adding $TiO_2$ in excess of its solubility, the $Ba_{1.12}(Ti_8O_{16})$ phase was observed at the lower and bottom of the solidified salt ingots.

  • It is difficult to combine oriental and western medicine. Each medicine has a different academic background, perspective on the world, and studying methodology. The claim that two paradigms can not be combined is not obtained from an actual verification, but this means it is so hard to combine two medicines having different backgrounds. The amalgamation of oriental and western medicine should be phased in on the basis of the continuous reciprocal understanding and commitment. First, the strength and weakness of each medicine over the treatment and research are required to be identified. Then, a few complementary areas can be chosen enabling a trial of fusion on a small scale. A cycle of problem solving and a new research can be set by analyzing research results obtained through the implementation over a period of time. In other words, the researchers of oriental and western medicine should repeat a continuous and gradual complementary research process by identifying issues to be improved and complemented through a consensus. Once the methodology obtained through the process of problem solving and proficient implementation is established in a stable condition, a method to widen the fusion area by expanding the operating area and implementation method can be chosen. However, the integral system of oriental medicine shouldn't be substituted by mechanical idea or reductionism. What should be done primarily for oriental medicine is to objectify things through quantification. In particular, the oriental treatment should accept the microscopic diagnosis to determine the structure and observe the biochemical change.

  • Grit or perseverance as a factor for student success and life has gained increasing attention. Statistical methods have been the norm in analyzing various aspects of grit, but they do not address the transient and dynamic behavior well. We, for the first time, developed two linear dynamical models that specifically address the feedback structure of a child's desire to achieve a high grade point average (GPA) and the necessary effort that will increase stress between parents and a child. We call the dynamical model as GSES (Goal, Status, Effort & Stress). The two dynamical models incorporate the positive (i.e., achieving a high GPA) and the negative sides (i.e., effort and elevated stress and thus unhappiness) for being gritty or perseverant. Different types of parenting style and a child's characteristics were simulated whether parents and a child are empathetic or stubborn to their expectations and stress (i.e., willing or unwilling to change). Simulations show that when both parents and a child are empathetic to each other's expectation and stress, the most stable situations with minimal stress and effort occur. When a stubborn parent's and a stubborn child were studied together, this resulted in the highest elevation of stress and effort. Stubborn parents and a complying or empathetic child resulted in considerably high stress to a child. Interference from parents may unexpectedly result in a situation in which a child's stress is seriously elevated. The GSES model shows the U-shaped happiness curve (i.e., reciprocal of stress) caused by the increasing and then decreasing goal

  • Water in the atmosphere is circulated by reciprocal action of various factors in the climate system. Otherwise, any climate phenomenon could not occur of itself. Thus, we have tried to understand the climate change by analysis of the factors. In this study, the fuzzy theory which is useful to express inaccurate and approximate nature in the real world is used for forecasting precipitation influenced by the factors. Forecasting models used in this study are neuro-fuzzy system and a Markov chain and those are applied to precipitation forecasting of illinois. Various atmosphere circulation factors(like soil moisture and temperature) influencing the climate change are considered to forecast precipitation. As a forecasting result, it can be found that the considerations of the factors are helpful to increase the forecastibility of the models and the neuro-fuzzy system gives us relatively more accurate forecasts.

  • Effect of austenite grain size on starting temperature of ${\gamma}{\rightarrow}{\varepsilon}$ martensitic transformation($M_s$) has been studied in an Fe-18%Mn alloy. Particular attention was paid on the variation of stacking fault energy with austenite grain size, which is considered to be a important factor affecting ${\gamma}{\rightarrow}{\varepsilon}$ martensitic transformation. Austenite grain size was increased in a wide range from $13{\mu}m$ to $185{\mu}m$ with increasing solution treatment temperature from $700^{\circ}C$ to $1100^{\circ}C$. Hardness was decreased with increasing austenite grain size while the volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$ martensite showed a reverse tendency, which indicates that the hardness is more dependent on austenite grain size than ${\varepsilon}$ martensite content. No significant change was found in $M_s$ temperature when the grain size was larger than about $30{\mu}m$. In case that, the austenite grain size was smaller than about $30{\mu}m$, however, $M_s$ temperature was marlkedly decreased with decreasing austenite grain size. A linear relationship between $M_s$ temperature and the stacking fault formation probability, i.e. the reciprocal of the stacking fault energy was obtained, which suggests that the variation of $M_s$ temperature with austenite grain size is closely related to the change in stacking fault energy.

  • The dependence of the ionic conductivity on the B-site ion substitution in (Li0.5La0.5)Ti1-xMxO3 (M=Sn, Zr, Mn, Ge) system has been studied. Same valence state and various electronic configuration and ionic radius of Sn4+, Zr4+, Mn4+ and Ge4+(4d10(0.69$\AA$), 4p6(0.72$\AA$), 3d10(0.54$\AA$) and 3d3(0.54$\AA$), respectively) induced the various crystallographic variaton with substitutions. So it was possibleto investigate the crystallographic factor which influence the ionic conduction by observing the dependence of the conductivity on the crystallographic factor which influence the ionic conduction by observing the dependence of the conductivity on the crystallographic variations. We found that the conductivity increased with decreasing the radii of B-site ions or vice versa and octahedron distortion disturb the ion conduction. The reason for this reciprocal proportion of conductivity on the radius of B-site ions has been examined on the base of the interatomic bond strength change due to the cation substitutions. The results were good in agreement with the experimental results. Therefore it could be concluded that the interatomic bond strength change due to the cation substitutions may be the one of major factors influencing the lithium ion conductivity in perovskite(Li0.5La0.5) TiO3system.

  • This study analyzed the repeated error patterns in division of fraction by elementary students through observation of their test papers. The questions for this study were following. First, what is the most changable thing among the repeated error patterns appeared in division of fraction by elementary students? Second, what is the most frequent error patterns in division of fraction by elementary students? First of all, the ratios of incorrect answers in division of fraction by general students were researched. This research was the only one time. The purpose was to know what kind of compositions in the problems were appeared more errors. Total 554 6th grade students(300 boys and 254 girls) from 6 elementary schools in Seoul are participated in this research. On the basis of this, the study for analysis began in earnest. 5 tests made progress for about 4 months. Total 181 6th grade students(92 boys and 89 girls) from S elementary school in Seoul were participated in this. After each test, to confirm the errors and to classify them were done. Then the repeated error patterns were arranged into 4 types: alpha, beta, gamma and delta type. Consequently, conclusions can be derived as follows. First, most students modify their errors as time goes by even though they make errors about already learned contents. Second, most students who appeared errors make them continually caused a reciprocal of natural number in the divisor when they calculate computations about '(fraction) $\div$ (natural number)'. Third, most students recognize that the divisor have to change the reciprocal when they calculate division of fraction through they modify their errors repeatedly.
