  • Reciprocal crosses were conducted between three strains of Taiwan Country chickens, developed in the National Chung-Hsing University, and two strains of Single Comb White Leghorns, developed in the Taiwan Livestock Research Institute. Traits studied were growing performances, laying performances, egg quality traits and traits concerning disease resistance, including resistance to Marek's disease virus and immune responses to Newcastle disease virus vaccine and to sheep red blood cell. Results indicated that laying performances of Taiwan country chickens were much inferior to White Leghorns, but they matured earlier, their eggs had better shell strength and larger proportion of yolk, and their general disease resistance was much better than White Leghorns. Heterosis were found in laying performances and egg quality traits. The heterosis in laying traits was so large that the hybrid laid as many eggs and as large eggs as did pure strains of White Leghorns. Strategies on the improvement of native chickens and the utilization of genetic merits of native chickens were also discussed.

  • This paper presents a method for analyzing the stiffness of full and low DOF (degree of freedom) planar parallel manipulators with serially connected legs. The individual stiffness of each leg is obtained by applying reciprocal screws to the leg twist using passive joints and elastic elements consisting of actuators and links. Because the legs are connected in parallel, the manipulator stiffness is determined by summing the individual leg stiffness values. This method does not require the assumption that springs should be located along reciprocal screws and is applicable to a planar parallel manipulator with a generic or singular configuration. The stiffness values of three planar parallel manipulators with different DOFs are analyzed. The numerical results are confirmed using ADAMS S/W.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate a group activity, reciprocal peer tutoring (RPT), in order to investigate advantages and challenges of RPT in promoting cooperative and collaborative learning environment for EFL University reading instruction. The participants in this study were 89 students taking an English reading course at a Korean university. RPT is a learning strategy whereby learners help each other and learn by teaching. This program was supported by a Vygotskyan perspective which assumes that learners gain mastery and develop cognitive skills through social interaction with more proficient others and their environment. This study relied particularly on participant perceptions through questionnaire survey and Anonymous Online class Report of the course. This study showed various advantages for tutors such as learning through teaching and becoming more autonomous and responsible for their own learning. Non-threatening and highly motivating learning atmosphere are parts of benefits for tutees. Other advantages for tutees included improved level of academic self-confidence, and motivation. This study also revealed several drawbacks associated with the problem of inaccuracy in students' production and students' demand for more direct teacher role. (182 words).

  • The present longitudinal study examined reciprocal influence between self-esteem and academic achievement using cross-lagged autoregressive model. This study employed data(four wave) from Korea Youth Panel Survey. Participants were 300 students(143 boys, 157 girls) who were 4th graders in 2004 and 7th graders in 2007. The results of this study indicated that 4th graders' self-esteem influenced 5th graders' academic achievement, in turn, 5th graders' academic achievement influenced 6th graders' self-esteem. However, students' self-esteem in 6th grade did not influence their academic achievement during 7th grade. Conversely, 6th graders' academic achievement influenced 7th graders' self-esteem.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the mutual reciprocal relationship between elders' ego integrity and depression including physical and psycho-social predictors of both variables. The study also investigated the significant predictors of elders' ego integrity and depression. Methods: Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from 137 elders. Results: Perceived health status, self-esteem, family interaction, and depression were significant predictors of ego integrity, whereas pain, self-esteem, and ego integrity were significant factors of depression. The results also showed that ego integrity and depression had reciprocal relationship with each other. Conclusion: Psycho-social factors might be more important to improve ego integrity and to alleviate depression in elderly subjects than physical factors.

  • In point of noise and vibration, it is easy to occur a noise and vibration, because the reciprocal compressor is composed of crank shaft, rod piston and etc. Therefore, it is important to understand the mechanism of reciprocal compressor. In this study, we measured the sound pressure level of compressor. There are two dominent frequencies. The first of one results from the suction part. In suction process, the suction valve flutteres, and it produces the noise of the first frequency. The other results from the structural vibration of the shell resonated by discharge pipe. Thus, to reduce the noise of compressor, it will be most efficiency to redesign muffler for the first frequency and discharge pipe for the second frequency.

  • The morphological characteristics of leaves, trichomes, and acorns in 8- to 11-year-old reciprocal hybrids of Quercus dentata and Q. serrata were investigated. The reciprocal hybrids had obovate to obovateelliptic leaves that were smaller than those of Q. dentata but similar to Q. serrata in their leaf size, obtuse leaf apex, narrow-tipped leaf base, and shape of small to intermediate-sized serrations. The ray length of stellate hairs was intermediate between those of the parents, and the hairs showed dense growth. Long single hairs are present among the stellate hairs on the abaxial side of the leaves. Therefore, the hybrids of Q. dentata and Q. serrata could be identified by the size and shape of leaves, shape of serrations, and type of leaf trichomes.

  • The present article investigates empirically whether non-reciprocal trade preferences (NRTPs) offered by QUAD countries (Canada, the European Union, Japan, and the United States) to developing countries have helped to promote economic growth in the beneficiary countries. Two main blocks of NRTPs are considered here: Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) programs and other trade preferences programs. The analysis used a set of 90 beneficiary countries of NRTPs that are concurrently recipients of development aid over the period of 2002-2018. Using the two-step system generalized method of moments, the analysis indicated that while a higher degree of utilization of each of these two blocks of NRTPs has been associated with a high economic growth rate, development aid enhances this positive effect. This highlights the need for donors to support a development strategy based on the provision of both development aid and NRTPs if they are to help beneficiary countries to promote economic growth. Finally, when the positive economic growth effect of the utilization of NRTPs is higher, the result is a greater country's share of exports (under preferential tariffs) to QUAD countries out of their total merchandise exports.

  • The cooperation and trust among the project participants play a critical role in the success or failure of any delivery system in construction industry. But it is very difficult to establish trust between an owner and a contractor when rational people only pursue only their own material self-interest. Based on the principal-agent theory, this paper will introduce the altruistic behavior into the traditional principal-agent model, and model the reciprocal behavior between the owner and contractor. We will show that both the owner and the contractor benefit from their reciprocal behavior, and hence trust establishing between them is possible. More importantly, we will proof that the higher the project uncertainty is, the more important trust establishing is.
