  • This paper attempts to identify the factors which are directly related to the effective transfer of technology from developed countries to LDCs. The recipient countries should have the capability of alteration/adaptation based on cost-minimization criteria. Some problems are such that technologies are transferred on the conditions of MNFs, packaged forms and under state management which result in lack of competitive pressure. Non-technological criteria are shown to be a problem under state management in the transaction of technology.

  • We have examined the antigen specificity in orally tolerant mice fed with the casein(CN) diet. In contrast to previous reported results of studies on oral tolerance, these mice responded poorly to ovalbumin(OVA) and ovomucoid(OM), as well as $\alpha$sl-enriched fraction of these cells suppressed anti $\alpha$sl-CN antibody production of naive mice, but could not significantly suppressed antibody response of previously immunized recipient mice. These results indicate that oral tolerance was not medicate through suppressor T cell activities.

  • Multicasting to mobile hosts(MHs) based on broadeasting results in overloaded unnecessary messages in case of th number of recipient MHs is relatively small compared with that of nodes in a network. In this paper we propose an improved multicast protocol in which messages are selectively flooded only to the (radio) cells within some distance from the cells where destination MHs reside most recently, so that the number of unnecessary messages carried in broadcasting is reduced. Detailed procedures for the protocol are provided and protocol properties are proven.

  • Cultural diversity is a highly important issue in nursing education and nursing practice today. This study is a philosophical approach to the power relationship between a health care provider and a care recipient. The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationships between nurses and ethnic minority patients based on the discussions of some Foucauldian concepts that are related to cultural diversity. Based on the analysis, this study provides some suggestions for cultural competency in nursing practice.

  • Sinus node dysfunction is common after orthotopic heart transplantation.Electrophysiologic studies have documented a high incidence [46% to 50%] of impaired sinus node automaticity and sinoatrial conduction in the early posttransplantation period. Sinus node dysfunction persists in over 20 % of patients and leads to prolonged bradyarrythmias, including sinus or nodal bradycardia and sinus arrest. The purpose of this paper was to observe sinus node dysfunction after orthotopic heart transplantation. Ten cardiac recipient dogs were monitored continuously after orthotopic transplantations between unrelated adult mongrel dogs. Crystalloid cardioplegic solution [Choongwoi Cardioplegia

  • Purpose: Gracilis muscle free flap transplantation is chosen in the medium sized soft tissue defect and bone exposure from trauma and chronic osteomyelitis in the lower extremity. We set a study to search for gracilis free flaps to know whether symptoms were cured or recurred in patients that have passed over 10 years from flap transplantation. Materials and Methods: From August 1995 through September 2010, we have performed 28 cases of gracilis muscle free flap in the lower extremities. Ever since no case visited to demand any discomfort, breakdown or recurrence in the flap site on outpatient basis. We made a telephone call to patients or relatives documented in the medical record and only 2 cases visited outpatient department and 9 cases postponed the visit who satisfied with the final result but 17 cases had wrong telephone numbers. Causes, area of lower extremity, recipient vessels in the lower extremity, condition of the donor thigh and overall satisfaction of the flap transplantation in activities of daily living were investigated and written down in the medical record. Results: 11 cases were reviewed after average postoperative 13.7 years. Gracilis muscle flaps were not break down at the recipient site in all cases. The wound of donor thigh wound healed good and overall activities of daily living was satisfied in all cases. Conclusion: Gracilis muscle flaps which had performed and followed up average 13.7 years revealed confident in the medium sized soft tissue defect and bone exposure from trauma and chronic osteomyelitis in the lower extremity.

  • Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is an important feeding crop in Asia, and utilization of genetically modified (GM) rice is highly demanding. For co-existence of GM rice and non-GM rice, the proper confinement measures should be provided. Thus, we surveyed gene flow from herbicide resistant GM rice to the conventional rice cultivars in the field tests. Gene flow frequency decreased with increasing distance between the pollen donor and recipients and did not exceed more than 1% even at the nearest distance. In single recipient model plot, a maximum gene flow frequency was observed at the shortest distance and hybrid was detected up to 12 m from the pollen donor. The direction of gene was coincided with the dominant wind direction. Gene flow assessment to multiple recipient plots was conducted under the high raining season by chance, and abrupt decline of gene flow frequency and maximum distance were resulted. According to the survey results, current regulation for isolation distance is reasonable for environmental safety or for general crop production. However, we suggest an alternative measure for GM rice cultivation that should be supplemented to overcome the out of estimation and in the environment asking higher security levels.
