In this paper, a new spectrum sensing method based on energy detection is proposed and analyzed in a cognitive radio(CR) system. We employ a delay diversity receiver for sensing the primary user's spectrum with reasonable cost and complexity. Conventional CR with the receiver equipping multiple antennas requires additional hardware and space for installing multiple antennas in accordance with increase in the number of antennas. If the number of antennas increases, detection probability as well as hardware complexity and cost rise. Then, it is difficult to make a primary user detector practically. Therefore, we adopt a delay diversity receiver for solving problems of the conventional spectrum detector utilizing multiple antennas. We derive analytical expressions for the spectrum sensing performance of the proposed system. From the simulation results, it is demonstrated that the primary user detector with the delay diversity receiver has almost half the complexity and shows similar or improved performance as compared with that employing multiple antennas. Therefore, the proposed spectrum sensing structure can be a practical solution for enhancing the detection capacity in CR system operations. The results of this paper can be applied to legacy CR systems with simple modifications.
Channel characteristics between the outdoor transmitter far away from the building and receivers inside the building are explored theoretically using ray tracing technique. In this paper, 29 receivers are located on the single floor of the building to observe the variation of channel properties depending on receiver location. For each receiver, amplitudes and phases of ail the possible rays form the transmitter to the receiver are traced to obtain impulse response. Statistical results for rms delay spread and power delay profiles for representative receiver location are given.
This paper describes a simple delay diversity technique for terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) and digital audio broadcasting in a single-frequency network (SFN). For the diversity technique, a delay diversity scheme is adopted. In the delay diversity scheme, a non-delayed signal is transmitted in the first antenna, and delayed versions of the signal are transmitted in each additional antenna. For an SFN environment with multiple transmitters, delay diversity can be executed by controlling the emission times of the transmitters. This SFN delay diversity scheme does not require any hardware changes in either the transmitter or receiver, and perfect backward compatibility can be acquired. To evaluate the performance improvement, laboratory tests are executed with various types of commercial T-DMB receivers as well as a measurement receiver. The improvement in the bit error rate performance is evaluated using a measurement receiver, and an improvement of the threshold of visibility value is evaluated for commercial receivers. Test results show that the T-DMB system can obtain diversity gain using the described technique.

A reflective array type surface acoustic wave(SAW) dispersive delay line(DDL) with high time-bandwidth at the V/UHF-band is designed and fabricated for compressive receiver applications. This type of the SAW DDL has the properties of the relative bandwidth of 20 %, the time delay of 49.89 usec, the insertion loss of 38.5 dB and the side lobe rejection of 39 dB. In comparison with a commercial SAW DDL, the insertion loss, amplitude ripple and side lobe rejection are improved by $1.5dB{\pm}0.6dB$ and 4 dB respectively. Using the fabricated SAW DDL, the prototype of the compressive receiver is developed. It is composed of RF converter, fast tunable LO, chirp LO, A/D converter, signal processing unit and control unit. This prototype system shows a fine frequency resolution of below 30 kHz with high scan rate.

In this paper, we analyze the delay characteristics of the multimdedia traffic in B-ISDN, and propose a weighted variable-size window estimator considering the QoS characteristics of the media and the variable delay characteristics of the networks, and present a delay estimator-based synchronization protocol for the efficient synchronization in ATM-based B-ISDN. The proposed estimator assigns a high weight value to recent cells arrived in the receiver, and suitably adjusts window size in order to efficiently adapt to delay variation by the prameter to detect the delay variation of the networks. The proposed synchronization protocol estimates end-to-end delay by the weighted variable-size window estimator, and dynamically schedules th evirtual channel of the transmitter to playout multimedia data on time in the receiver. Also, we evaluate the performance of the delay estimator, which is the most importnat functional element in our proposed synchronization protocol, by the simulation and analyze the results of the simulation.

A source-synchronous receiver based on a delay-locked loop is presented. It employs a shared global calibration control between channels, yet achieves channel expandability for high aggregate I/O bandwidth. The global calibration control accomplishes skew calibration, equalizer adaptation, and phase lock of all the channels in a calibration period, resulting in the reduced hardware overhead and area of each data lane. In addition, the weight-adjusted dual-interpolating delay cell, which is used in the multiphase DLL, guarantees sufficient phase linearity without using dummy delay cells, while offering a high-frequency operation. The proposed receiver is designed in the 90-nm CMOS technology, and achieves error-free eye openings of more than 0.5 UI across 9-28 inch Nelco4000-6 microstrips at 4-7 Gb/s and more than 0.42 UI at data rates of up to 9 Gb/s. The data lane occupies only $0.152mm^2$ and consumes 69.8 mW, while the rest of the receiver occupies $0.297mm^2$ and consumes 56.0 mW at the 7- Gb/s data-rate and supply voltage of 1.35 V.

The position and time errors of a conventional L1-band GPS receiver (1575.42MHz) are known to be about 100 m and 70 ns, respectively. These errors are mainly due to the propagation delay of GPS satellite signals through ionosphere. Various L1/L2 dual-band GPS receivers are normally used to compensate for those position and time errors by detecting an accurate propagation delay. These receivers detect the propagation delay difference between the L1 and L2 signals based on the fact that the propagation delay through ionosphere is dependent on frequency and, from which, calculate an accurate propagation delay of the GPS signals through ionosphere. In this paper, we analyzed the architecture of a L1/L2 dual-band CPS receiver by high-level simulations with Synopsys's COSSAP Tool.
Multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system can increase data rate, capacity and bit error rate (BER) performance compare to traditional single antenna system. However MIMO technique is pointed out the problem that has high complexity to design receiver. So a recent trend of research on the MIMO system pays more attention to simplified implementation of receiver structure. In this paper, we propose differential space time block code (STBC) for MIMO system with cyclic delay diversity (CDD). This structure can provide a very close performance to that of the conventional diversity scheme with maximum likelihood (ML) detection without channel estimation block while the receiver structure is highly simplified. Bit error rate (BER) performance of the proposed system is simulated for an AWGN channel by theoretical and simulated approaches. The results of this paper can be applicable to the 4G mobile multimedia communication systems.

DAM(Delay-And-Multiplier) intercept receiver usually detects the symbol rate of the transmitted DS spread spectrum signal for the feature extraction. It is important for secure communication to reduce the normalized output signal-to-noise ratio that is generated at the DAM intercept receiver as a measure of detectability. In this paper, several kinds of chip waveforms are novelly analyzed for LPI(Low-Probability of Intercept) communication against DAM intercept receiver. Consequently, it is shown that the rectangular chip waveform shows the best LPI performance in the bandwidth of 2/$T_c$TEX>, 4/$T_c$TEX>, and 6/$T_c$TEX>/. Except the rectangular waveform, kaiser chip waveform show better LPI performance than the other waveforms in the bandwidth of 4/$T_c$TEX> and 6/$T_c$TEX>.

In wireless sensor networks, data packets are send to the sink node. So traffic increases near the sink node. This causes delay and collision. To solve this problem, the proposed mechanism used half rotation antenna. By using a half rotation antenna, the delay of data packets can be reduced. Also we propose a method to efficiently use the energy of the node using BRN(backup receiver node) and increase the lifetime of the entire networks. Our numerical analysis and simulation results show that our mechanism outperforms RI-MAC protocol in terms of energy consumption and transmission delay.
