  • In recent years, wireless communication technologies in human body have received an increasing attention and the research on an antenna that can be worn also has been actively conducted. In this paper, an wearable antenna that can receive GPS signal frequency is proposed. The antenna was manufactured by using a copper polyester fabric with thickness of 0.08mm as a radiator and a ground plate, and a goatskin with thickness of 0.7mm as dielectric substrate. Cutting edges placed in diagonal direction of square patch in order to obtain a circular polarization characteristic, and the conductive cloth and leather was laminated by using a conductive epoxy. First, goatskin dielectric constant was obtained through the simulation and measurement of resonance frequency of the three square patch antennas with different size. On the basis of the results, an antenna operating in the GPS band was designed and the performance of the antenna was validated by making the experiment. The change of the characteristic of the antenna that is located on the shoulder parts of the clothing and wearing person were measured. And it was confirmed that the reception sensitivity has a similar level as compared to the commercially produced ceramic GPS antenna.

  • In this paper we present an improved method by using demographic information for overcoming the similarity miss-calculation from the sparsity problem in collaborative filtering recommendation systems. The similarity between a pair of users is only determined by the ratings given to co-rated items, so items that have not been rated by both users are ignored. To solve this problem, we add virtual neighbor's rating using demographic information of neighbors for improving prediction accuracy. It is one kind of extentions of traditional collaborative filtering methods using the peason correlation coefficient. We used the Grouplens movie rating data in experiment and we have compared the proposed method with the collaborative filtering methods by the mean absolute error and receive operating characteristic values. The results show that the proposed method is more efficient than the collaborative filtering methods using the pearson correlation coefficient about 9% in MAE and 13% in sensitivity of ROC.

  • 60GHz band RF transceiver was made with the NRD waveguide structure for the point- to-point communication. A dielectric line that of comprising NRD waveguide was the milling process was not easy because a material gets soft, and also compression and expansion according to a temperature were serious, so this line was not suitable for the device in which the resonance characteristic was important. In addition, the thing for comprising amplification module was difficult in the NRD waveguide structure. In this paper, a way in which to overcome mentioned in upper part, the transceiver was made by below technology. Components in which the resonance characteristic was not important were made with the NRD waveguide hybrid IC, and components in which the resonance characteristic was important were made with waveguide. An amplifier packaged and modularizing the bare chip, it equipped at the NRD waveguide within. Manufactured transceiver communicated with FDD method, and it had 10dBm output power, and -60dBm minimum receive sensitivity.

  • With increased human activity in space, the risk of re-entry and collision between space objects is constantly increasing. Hence, the need for space situational awareness (SSA) programs has been acknowledged by many experienced space agencies. Optical and radar sensors, which enable the surveillance and tracking of space objects, are the most important technical components of SSA systems. In particular, combinations of radar systems and optical sensor networks play an outstanding role in SSA programs. At present, Korea operates the optical wide field patrol network (OWL-Net), the only optical system for tracking space objects. However, due to their dependence on weather conditions and observation time, it is not reasonable to use optical systems alone for SSA initiatives, as they have limited operational availability. Therefore, the strategies for developing radar systems should be considered for an efficient SSA system using currently available technology. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the performance of a radar system in detecting and tracking space objects. With the radar system investigated, the minimum sensitivity is defined as detection of a $1-m^2$ radar cross section (RCS) at an altitude of 2,000 km, with operating frequencies in the L, S, C, X or Ku-band. The results of power budget analysis showed that the maximum detection range of 2,000 km, which includes the low earth orbit (LEO) environment, can be achieved with a transmission power of 900 kW, transmit and receive antenna gains of 40 dB and 43 dB, respectively, a pulse width of 2 ms, and a signal processing gain of 13.3 dB, at a frequency of 1.3 GHz. We defined the key parameters of the radar following a performance analysis of the system. This research can thus provide guidelines for the conceptual design of radar systems for national SSA initiatives.

  • Global Positioning System(GPS) is a useful system used in both civilian and military applications. However, the signal of GPS is susceptible to jamming attacks due to low receive sensitivity, since the signals come from the satellite located at over 20,000 km above the earth. In this paper, we have conducted a preceding research on a non-Foster matching circuit that efficiently matches an electrically ultra-small GPS antenna. Electrically Small Antennas(ESAs) are inefficient radiators and are difficult to match in wideband due to extremely high quality factor. In order to match small GPS antenna in wideband, a non-Foster matching circuit for a small GPS antenna was designed. A negative impedance converter circuit consisting of Linvill's cross-coupled pair transistors was fabricated and its stability was verified by the time-domain stability analysis. In addition, anechoic chamber measurements show that the non-Foster matching circuit for small GPS antenna can lead bore-sight gain improvement by more than 17 dB.

  • In radio communication technology, SDR(Software Defined Radio) technology is emerging as a trendy technology for future. SDR is expected to change existing radio systems including central hardware. SDR is equipment that wireless parameters (frequency, modulation, additional service, power level, receive sensitivity, etc.) are controlled by software. In the world, equipments using the new technology are spreading. Not only equipments being imported but also local manufacturers are making this equipment, developing software and offering upgraded service. In the future, as SDR spreads and users choose the service, diverse equipments will be developed through competition and individual development. This diversity of equipment and services will introduce problems in compatibility and interoperation issues. So the government will have to make technical standard for SDR service and will have to make theses standards available to users and manufacturers alike. Therefore I am investigating the elements that can be used to establish these standards.

  • This paper describes the design and fabrication of a high power amplifier which is a component of TDL(Tactical Data Link) aircraft terminal. We applied high-speed frequency hopping technology, cognitive radio technology, and receive filter bank technology to efficiently use limited frequency resources with radar and other communication equipment using the same frequency band. The high-power amplifier is physically composed of a transmitter, a receiver, a mechanical part, and a cable assembly, and is designed to meet temperature characteristics and electrical characteristics such as maximum transmission distance and reception sensitivity. Modeling and simulator were used to satisfy the requirement of high power amplifier. The transmit power and the noise figure were measured at 50.02dBm and 2.682dB, respectively. It was confirmed that all the required specifications were satisfied in the electrical characteristics test and the environmental characteristic test.

  • Background: Mandibular third molar removal is the most common surgical procedure encountered in oral and maxillofacial clinics. It also presents the greatest challenges and controversies for surgeons when surgical removal is considered. Furthermore, diverse anesthesia results and success rates are achieved after using the same concentrations of different solutions or the same amounts of local anesthetics. The purpose of this study was to examine the efficiency of using double-cartridge (3.4 ml) 4% lidocaine (high concentration) and 4% articaine with a 1:100000 epinephrine infiltration in the retromolar region for impacted lower third molar surgery. Methods: This double-blind study included 30 patients with symmetrically impacted lower third molars. The patients were randomly selected to receive 4% articaine on one side and 4% lidocaine on the other, as a local anesthetic for third molar surgery. The onset, duration of soft-tissue numbness, pulpal sensitivity, amount of additional local anesthetic needed, pain score during the surgical procedure, and duration of the operation were recorded. Results: The results of this research indicate that 86.7% of the operations in the 4% articaine group and 83.3% of those in the 4% lidocaine group were successful. Furthermore, the outcomes in both groups were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Numbness onset occurred faster in the articaine group than it did in the lidocaine group. However, the duration of soft-tissue anesthesia and pain scores recorded immediately postoperatively were similar. Conclusion: It is concluded that 4% lidocaine and 4% articaine had a similar infiltration efficacy in the retromolar region and both local anesthetics are adequate for impacted lower third molar surgery. There were no statistically significant differences between the two local anesthetics regarding pain control and the duration of soft-tissue numbness during the procedure.
