The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of horticultural activities with reminiscence materials and singing songs on the ability to recall words and depression in the elderly with mild dementia. A total of 20 sessions of a horticultural therapy program was held once or twice a week from July 14, 2015 to November 3, 2015 for the elderly with mind dementia at the social welfare center in D city. The subjects of this study were 13 women and the mean age was 81.2 years. The ability to recall words significantly improved from $8.6{\pm}1.8$ before the program to $9.4{\pm}0.6$ after the program (p=.012). However, there was no significant difference in the score of depression after the program. Synergistic effects were generated by applying horticultural activities, singing and reminiscence therapy activities simultaneously, and it was effective in recalling memories. As emotional functions were associated with hormones in vivo, there were emotional ups and downs at each session and short-term alternative therapies were not sufficient to completely eliminate neurotoxic substances caused by dementia.
In order to develop pedestrian navigation service that provides optimal pedestrian routes based on pedestrian satisfaction levels, it is required to develop a prediction model that can estimate a pedestrian's satisfaction level given a certain condition. Thus, the aim of the present study is to develop a pedestrian satisfaction prediction model based on three machine learning algorithms: Logistic Regression, Random Forest, and Artificial Neural Network models. The 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 Pedestrian Satisfaction Survey Data in Seoul, Korea are used to train and test the machine learning models. As a result, the Random Forest model shows the best prediction performance among the three (Accuracy: 0.798, Recall: 0.906, Precision: 0.842, F1 Score: 0.873, AUC: 0.795). The performance of Artificial Neural Network is the second (Accuracy: 0.773, Recall: 0.917, Precision: 0.811, F1 Score: 0.868, AUC: 0.738) and Logistic Regression model's performance follows the second (Accuracy: 0.764, Recall: 1.000, Precision: 0.764, F1 Score: 0.868, AUC: 0.575). The precision score of the Random Forest model implies that approximately 84.2% of pedestrians may be satisfied if they walk the areas, suggested by the Random Forest model.

This study investigated a utilization deficiency phase in the situation of children's acquiring mnemonic strategies in which children successfully execute a strategy but the strategy does not facilitate memory performance. This study examined spontaneous acquisition of elaboration strategy among 5th grade children in the learning of noun pairs for 5 sessions. Participants were tested in memory task using different list of word pairs in each session. Results showed that children increased the use of elaboration strategy significantly in 5 sessions but they did not gain benefit in recall. When the word pairs were associated, the use of elaboration strategy was significantly increased but children did not gain benefit in recall. This results were discussed in terms of utilization deficiency.

Disease caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) is sweeping the globe. There are numerous methods for identifying this disease using a chest imaging. Computerized Tomography (CT) chest scans are used in this study to detect COVID-19 disease using a pretrain Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) ResNet50. This model is based on image dataset taken from two hospitals and used to identify Covid-19 illnesses. The pre-train CNN (ResNet50) architecture was used for feature extraction, and then fully connected layers were used for classification, yielding 97%, 96%, 96%, 96% for accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score, respectively. When combining the feature extraction techniques with the Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN), it produced accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-scores of 92.5%, 83%, 92%, and 87.3%. In our suggested approach, we use a preprocessing phase to improve accuracy. The image was enhanced using the Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) algorithm, which was followed by cropping the image before feature extraction with ResNet50. Finally, a fully connected layer was added for classification, with results of 99.1%, 98.7%, 99%, 98.8% in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score.
Three experiments were carried out in order to determine whether users have longer using time, better recall of product information, and flow in an aesthetically appealing product (media player) in products offering good usability. For the experiment, fourteen emotional words were employed which were made up of 8 aesthetic and 6 usability words. In a preliminary experiment, the subjects freely used three media players and selected emotional words by a 7-point likert scale to distinguish a group of similar usability value and another group contrary to the other in aesthetic and usability value. (N=18) In the main experiment, it was hypothesized that users use more and have more flow and recalled information in the case of the aesthetically appealing product. Therefore, in the main experiment, we measured how much time subjects spent using the product and asked them to make an assumption regarding the time spent by the group that has the same usability value. We then examined the time they spent and the gap between the actual and estimated time. We also calculated the amount of menu information recalled via a questionnaire. In the last experiment, we selected the group of products contrary to each other in aesthetic and usability value and assessed the differences in using time, recall of product information, and flow. (N=18) The empirical results provide evidence that aesthetically appealing products are associated with greater flow and recall of product information than other products, thus supporting the hypothesis. In addition, it was found that there is a positive correlation between the aesthetically appealing product and flow index as well as with recalled information.
Trait anger is one of the psychological traits associated with experiences of anger. Individuals with high trait anger become angry easily at trivial events, and experience anger more frequently, intensely, and over a longer duration. This study aimed to investigate neural responses during experiences of anger, and identify the neural correlates of trait anger. Thirty five adults participated in the functional magnetic resonance (fMRI) experiment. They were scanned while they recalled an anger-inducing memory that was supposed to evoke an experience of anger. During the angry recall compared to the emotionally neutral recall, our participants showed greater neural activation in the right superior temporal gyrus (BA38), left inferior frontal gyrus (BA45), right thalamus, right insula (BA13), bilateral cuneus (BA17), and right cerebellum anterior lobe. The correlation analysis revealed that trait anger scores were positively associated with right insula activity during the angry recall. Individuals with higher trait anger were more likely to show greater activity in the right insula in response to past experiences of anger, as previously implicated in various studies of emotional processing. This finding suggests that trait anger may be an important factor in modulating anger-related brain activity.

This paper presents a novel hybrid classifier for face recognition with artificially generated virtual training samples. We utilize both the nearest neighbor approach in feature angle space and a connectionist model to obtain a synergy effect by combining the results of two heterogeneous classifiers. First, a classifier called the nearest feature angle (NFA), based on angular information, finds the most similar feature to the query from a given training set. Second, a classifier has been developed based on the recall of stored frontal projection of the query feature. It uses a frontal recall network (FRN) that finds the most similar frontal one among the stored frontal feature set. For FRN, we used an ensemble neural network consisting of multiple multiplayer perceptrons (MLPs), each of which is trained independently to enhance generalization capability. Further, both classifiers used the virtual training set generated adaptively, according to the spatial distribution of each person's training samples. Finally, the results of the two classifiers are combined to comprise the best matching class, and a corresponding similarit measure is used to make the final decision. The proposed classifier achieved an average classification rate of 96.33% against a large group of different test sets of images, and its average error rate is 61.5% that of the nearest feature line (NFL) method, and achieves a more robust classification performance.
In the current study, it is suggested that when two emotions are presented through cross-modality, such as auditory and visual, incongruence will influence arousal, recognition, and recall of subjects. The first hypothesis is that incongruent cross-modality does not only increase arousal more than the congruent, but it also increases recall and recognition more than congruent. The second hypothesis is that arousal modulates recall and recognition of subjects. To demonstrate the two hypotheses, our experiment's conditions were manipulated to be congruent and incongruent by presenting positive or negative emotions, visually and acoustically. For dependent variables, we measured recall rate and recognition rates. and arousal was measured by PAD (pleasure-arousal-dominance) scales. After eight days, only recognition was measured repeatedly online. As a result, our behavioral experiment showed that there was a significant difference between arousal before watching a movie clip and after (p<.001), but no difference between the congruent condition and incongruent condition. Also, there was no significant difference between recognition performance in the congruent condition and incongruent condition, but there was a main effect of the clips' emotions. Interestingly after analyzing recognition rates separately depending on clips' emotions, there was a significant difference between congruent and incongruent conditions in the only negative clip (p= .044), not in the positive clip. In a detailed result, recognition in the incongruent condition is more than in the congruent condition. Furthermore, in the case of recall performance, there was a significant interaction between the clips' emotions shown in the clips and congruent conditions (p=.039). Through these results, the effect of incongruence with negative emotion was demonstrated, but an incongruent effect by arousal could not be demonstrated. In conclusion, in our study, we tried to determine the impact of one method to convey a story dramatically and have an effect on memory. These effects are influenced by the subjects' perceived emotions (valence and arousal).

Visual information is widely used to deliver health information more effectively on social media, but there is lack of research on how effectively visual information delivers health information on social media. This study reports Facebook users' reading patterns and cognitive tests (recall and recognition tests) results using health-related Facebook posts. For this study, 21 college students participated in online questionnaire, eye tracking experiment, and recall and recognition tests. First, users paid their attention to the area that contains information (i.e., users focused on the main text rather than photos that do not contain information). Second, in the case of Facebook posts containing infographics, users paid their attention on the infographics, but the recall and recognition test results of the posts with infographics were lower than the posts containing photos. Particularly, when the infographics are in a complex collage format, recall and recognition tests result lower scores. Third, regarding the length of the text, the Facebook posts with short text resulted in higher recall and recognition test scores than the posts with medium or long texts. This study suggested to Facebook health information providers and distributors how to design Facebook posts for delivering health information more effectively.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The doubly labeled water (DLW) method is the gold standard for estimating total energy expenditure (TEE) and is also useful for verifying the validities of dietary evaluation tools. In this study, we compared the accuracy of total energy intakes (TEI) estimated by the 24-h diet recall method with TEE obtained using the doubly labeled water method. SUBJECTS/METHODS: This study involved 71 subjects aged 20-49 yrs. Over a 14-day period, three 24-h diet recalls per subject (2 weekdays and 1 weekend day) were used to estimate energy intakes, while TEE was measured using the DLW method. The paired t-test was used to determine the significance of differences between TEI and TEE results, and the accuracy of the 24-h recall method was determined by accuracy predictions percentage, root mean square error, and bias. RESULTS: Average study subject age was 33.4 ± 8.6 yrs. The association between TEI and TEE was positive and significant (r = 0.463, P < 0.001), and the difference between TEI (2,084.3 ± 684.2 kcal/day) and TEE (2,401.7 ± 480.3 kcal/day) was also significant (P < 0.001). In all study subjects, mean TEI was 12.0% (307.5 ± 629.3 kcal/day) less than mean TEE, and 12.2% (349.4 ± 632.5 kcal/day) less in men and 11.8% (266.7 ± 632.5 kcal/day) less in women. Rates of TEI underprediction for all study subjects, men, and women, were 60.5%, 51.4%, and 66.7%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: This study shows that 24-h diet recall underreports energy intakes. More research is needed to corroborate our findings and evaluate the accuracy of 24-h recall with respect to additional demographics.
