  • Under SLD conditions, due to the large size of droplets, physical phenomena such as wall-droplet interaction and deformation have a significant effect on the icing process. Accordingly, many studies have been conducted in order to computationally simulate SLD effects. As one of the efforts, post-processing method have been proposed to describe wall-droplet interaction effect, which modified collection efficiency using Wright model. However, since the model doesn't properly consider the wall condition, it still overestimated collection efficiency and impingement limit. To solve this problem, impingement areas were divided into 3 different regions, and the post-processing method was introduced with the new wall-droplet interaction model developed based on Bai and Gosman rebound model. In order to consider the effect of deformation, the most suitable model was selected by comparing the deformation models used in the various icing codes. As a result, the modified post-processing method showed improved accuracy in predicting the impingement limits and collection efficiency by further estimating mass flux loss due to rebound, and it was observed that the result was the closest to the experimental data when the deformation effect was included by using Wiegand model.

  • The general concept of reinforced roadbed in the high-speed railway is to cope with the soft ground for the bearing capacity and settlement of foundation soil. The cyclic plate load tests were performed to determine the behavior of reinforced ground with multiple layers of geogrid underlying by soft soil. With the test results, the bearing capacity ratio, elastic rebound ratio, subgrade modulus and the strain of geogrids under loading were investigated. Based on these plate load tests, laboratory model tests under cyclic loading were conducted to estimate the effect of geogrid reinforcement in particular for the high-speed rail roadbed. The permanent settlement and the behavior of earth pressure in reinforced roadbed subjected to a combination of static and dynamic loading are presented.

  • Several non-destructive test methods have been developed to estimate compressive strength of concrete in other countries. However, their applications are limited in domestic concrete due to their inaccuracies. The purpose of this study is to propose an aging coefficient of compressive strength of structural concrete in rebound number method and ultrasonic pulse velocity method for domestic concrete. The test variables include type of aggregate, curing condition, and compressive strength. Two approaches are used to estimate aging coefficient. One is evaluated by uniform linear regression equation for all ages and shows uniform strength reduction coefficient regardless of material properties and the other is evaluated by individual regression equation for each ages and shows nonuniform strength reduction and rebound increasing coefficients which decrease with increasing of rebound number and compressive strength. The latter result which can include the effect of rebound number and compressive strength is more resonable than the former.

  • A variety of physical, chemical, and microbiological techniques have been developed to deal with soil and groundwater contamination. However, in the presence of the large portion of soil micro-environments, contaminant rebound and/or tailing have been frequently reported. Case study of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) removal by full-scale land farming showed that contaminant rebound and/or tailing occurred in 9 out of total 21 cases and subsequently resulted in problems of a long term operation to satisfy TPH guidelines of contaminated soil and groundwater. The main cause of contaminant rebound and tailing is considered to be the strong interactions between contaminants and micro-environments including micro-particles, micro-pores, and organic matter. Thus, this study reviewed the effects of soil micro-environments of soil and groundwater on the removal efficiency for both heavy metals and petroleum contaminants. In addition, the various methods of sampling, analysis, and assessment of soil micro-environments were evaluated. Thorough understanding of the effects of soil micro-environments on contaminant removal will be essential to achieve a cost-effective and efficient solution to contaminated sites.

  • Objective : The potassium disturbance associated with thiopental continuous infusion in neurosurgical patients is well known. However, the effect of propofol continuous infusion on serum potassium levels has not been investigated extensively. Methods : We reviewed the medical records of 60 consecutive patients who received coma therapy or deep sedation for intracranial pressure control using either thiopental or propofol between January 2010 and January 2012. Results : The overall incidence of hypokalemia (K<3.5 mmol/L) was comparable between thiopental and propofol groups (89.2% vs. 82.6%). But, the incidence of moderate to severe hypokalemia (K<3.0 mmol/L) was significantly higher in thiopental group (51.4% vs. 13.0%, p=0.003). The lowest potassium level (2.9 mmol/L vs. 3.2 mmol/L, p=0.020) was lower in thiopental group. The patients in the thiopental group required greater potassium replacement than the propofol group patients (0.08 mmol/kg/h vs. 0.02 mmol/kg/h, p<0.001). On multivariate analysis, thiopental [odds ratio, 95% confidence interval, 7.31 (1.78-27.81); p=0.005] was associated with moderate to severe hypokalemia during continuous infusion. The incidence of rebound hyperkalemia (K>5.0 mmol/L, 32.4% vs. 4.3%, p=0.010) and the peak potassium concentration (4.8 mmol/L vs. 4.2 mmol/L, p=0.037) after the cessation of therapy were higher in thiopental group. On multivariate analysis, thiopental [8.82 (1.00-77.81); p=0.049] and duration of continuous infusion [1.02 (1.00-1.04); p=0.016] were associated with rebound hyperkalemia once therapy was discontinued. Conclusion : Propofol was less frequently associated with moderate to severe hypokalemia after induction and rebound hyperkalemia following the cessation of continuous infusion than thiopental.

  • Blends were prepared by mixing BR, SBR and NBR to CIIR, which is used for outsole, at various mixing ratio, and effect of the mixing ratio on abrasion resistance and coefficient of friction was analyzed. CIIR interferes the crystalline formation of BR in BR/CIIR blends and this could be one of the factors that rapidly decreases abrasion resistance of BR/CIIR blends. $Tan{\delta}$ peak area of CIIR/BR blends decreased as the amount of BR present in the blends increased, and similarly, the coefficient of friction tended to decrease. Stress relaxation rate and rebound resilience of CIIR/BR blends decreased with increasing BR content, and it was presumed that their rebound resilience was affected by stress relaxation rate.

  • The effects of transmural nerve stimulation induced releasing neurotransmitters on the changes of swine uterine smooth muscle motility were examined by polygraph through isometric force transducer. The frequency dependent relaxation and rebound contraction were revealed on precontraction with histamine by transmural nerve stimulation. The rebound contraction by transmural nerve stimulation was inhibited by nonselective ${\alpha}$-adrenergic receptor antagonist, phentolamine, and the relaxation by transmural nerve stimulation was blocked by nonselective ${\beta}$-adrenergic receptor antagonist, propranolol. The relaxation induced by nonselective ${\beta}$-adrenergic receptor agonist, isoproterenol on precontraction with histamine were the dose dependent manner and this relaxation was blocked by nonselective ${\beta}$-adrenergic receptor antagonist, propranolol in isolated uterine smooth muscle of pig. These results suggest that endogenous neurotransmitters on smooth muscle relaxation was influenced by ${\beta}$-adrenergic receptor in swine.

  • This study investigates practical application of high early strength type concrete using fine particle classifying cement, and the results are summarized as following. The replacement use of FC 30% did not great influence on concrete mix, therefore mixing without additional SP and AE was available using equal mix with OPC. The ratio of increasing temperature by heat of hydration was similar with OPC, and the compressive strength was over then 5MPa at -28℃ outside temperature on 2nd day. Therefore, it is considering that the first purpose, the effect of shortening terms of work by early demolding, will be available. The rebound rate of type "P" schumidt hammer was relative with compressive strength, and the rebound rate for verifying 5MPa of compressive strength was estimated about 55 considering rate of safety. Therefore, assuming demolding date is available efficiently.

  • In this paper, internal blast effect of reinforced concrete core structure were investigated using Ansys Autodyn, which is a specialized hydrocode for the analysis of explosion and impact. It is expected that internal blast case can give additional damage to the structure because it causes rebound of blast loads. Therefore, in this paper, the hazard of internal blast effect is demonstrated using UFC 3-340-02 criteria. In addition, analysis result of Autodyn, experimental result regarding rebound of blast load, and example of UFC 340-02 are compared to verify that Autodyn can analyze internal blast effect properly. Furthermore, progressive collapse mechanism of core structure which is one of the most important parts in high rise buildings is also analyzed using Autodyn. When internal blasts are loaded to core structure, the core structure is mostly damaged on its corner and front part of core wall from explosives. Therefore, if the damaged parts of core wall are demolished, progressive collapse of the core structure can be initiated.

  • A natural rubber was blended with a butadiene rubber with different ratios. A natural rubber, along with three different blends, its ratio varying from 10 to 15 to 20 weight %, were prepared and tested. It was found that inclusion of the butadiene rubber increased cure time, compared to the natural rubber. It is speculated that increased free volume due to the inclusion of butadiene rubber contributed to this effect. Furthermore, inclusion of butadiene rubber led to increase hardness of a sphere, and as a result, the extent of rebound increased sharply.
