This study deals with the traffic accident according to the improvement projects of frequent accident locations. The objective is to analyze the impact of improvements on the accident reduction. In pursuing the above, the study gives the particular attentions to developing the models based on the data of 70 intersections improved. The main results analyzed are as follows. First, 4 multiple linear regression accident models(total, side right-angle, rear end and side stripe accident) which were statistically significant were developed. Second, total accidents reduction by sight-distance and turning traffic flow improvements, side right-angle by sight-distance, over-speed and lane operation, rear end by turning traffic flow, signal and lane operation, and side stripe by traffic impedance improvements were analyzed. Finally, the above 4 models were evaluated to be statically significant through the correlation analysis and pair-sample t-test.
There has been an increasing demand on measurement of the vibration levels in commercial truck shipments, where all packaged products are exposed to some levels of random vibration and shock. In this study, bear glass bottles loaded at the front, middle, and rear positions of 11 tonne truck bed was shipped from Kwangju to Waegouan. Vertical direction vibration levels were analysed and matching laboratory random vibration test was performed using power spectral density (PSD) profiles derived from truck transit records. Also, the effects of drop hight on glass bottles were evaluated. As expected, the maximum vibration levels were recorded at the rear of truck bed. No breakage of bottles were observed during truck transit and laboratory random vibration testing set at 0.52 $G_{rms}$. In drop test, glass bottles were not damaged by bottom side impact, while short side drop impact caused about twice higher bottle breakage rate than that of long side drop impact at 30 cm and 40 cm drop hight.

In this paper, strain and stress on space frame are analyzed at racing car under crash loads. As the deformation is reduced to a minimum during crash and the vulnerable parts are grasped, the safety of driver is ensured. The vehicle frame is modelled with truss structure by inputting the material property of carbon steel on finite element analysis. The increase of impulse momentum is due to speed change at frontal collision. This influence effected on vehicle frame is also analyzed by ANSYS program. The deformation of the frame is studied by applying the crash loads at front, side and rear directions. Though the influence on the seat of driver is small at frontal and rear crash, the deformation due to impact is progressed into this seat. The safety of frame is enhanced by making up for these weak deformations and these results of simulation analysis can be applied to the production of the actual vehicle frame.

Penetrator with enhanced lateral effect(PELE) is a newconcept projectile, without dynamite and fuze. It consists of high-density jacket, closed at its rear end and filled with a low-density filling material. To study the explosion characteristics of PELE, by AUTODYN-3D code, the calculation models of projectile body and bullet target are established and the process of penetrating aluminum-2024 alloy target of PELE is simulated, and the scattering characteristics after penetrating aluminum-2024 alloy target of PELE are studied by different initial velocity. The explicit finite element analysis of PELE fragmentation was implemented with stochastic failure criterion in AUTODYN-3D code. As expansion of filling, the fragments were obtained velocities and dispersed laterally and further more enhancing the damage area largely. The number and shape of the PELE fragments were different depend on impact velocity and incidence angle of filling which fragment generated during penetration and lateral dispersion process.

In this study, in regard to fiber reinforced mortar mixing steel fiber and 4types of organic fiber, impact test was carried out. Because to predict fracture reduction performance with flexural, tensile strength when types of fiber were different as impact reduction performance of concrete is closely related with toughness such as flexural strength, tensile strength and fracture energy etc. As a result, enhancement of toughness by fiber reinforcement controls the spall of rear. On the other hand in case of steel fiber relatively turned up high toughness in appropriate load compared with organic fiber but in same mixing rate, impact reduction performance by projectile showed low performance due to few number of an individual of mixing.
A relation between the movement range of arms and arising moment has been studied to find out efficient movement range to minimize impact concerning arm landing in sports aerobics. Four male athletes who won top three in national-level sports aerobics competition were chosen for the experiment. They were allowed to jump in between two force platform so that the right hand and the right leg could land onto the front and rear force platform, respectively. The sampling frequency was 200 Hz. The main conclusions based on the analysis of the angle and joint moment parameters of wrist, elbow, and shoulder are as follows: 1. The wrist moment was small when its angle was small, indicating that the dorsi-flexion of the wrist joint offered a positive influence to reduce wrist moment. 2. The elbow angle increased as wrist angle decreased and vice versa. This means that the movement range of the wrist joint affects that of the elbow joint. The darsi-flexion of the wrist is the position to absorb the impact of the elbow effectively rather than to absorb the impact of the wrist itself. The impact is absorbed by the flexion of wrist joint rather than the wrist. 3. The degree of moment transfer of the shoulder joint, having absorbed the impact from the elbow and elbow joint, became dependent on the efficiency of the fore-joints impact absorption.
KNCAP is a program to evaluate the automobile safety, providing consumer vehicle safety assessment results. The safety evaluation tests are Frontal Impact, Offset Frontal Crash, Side Crash, Side Pole Crash, Rear Impact. This is the study of the offset frontal impact safety evaluation. Currently, IIHS is performing a small overlap test. NHTSA plans to implement the oblique moving deformable barrier test. Euro-NCAP plans to implement a mobile frontal impact test. Simulation is used to compare occupant behavior and injury. We have investigated whether the introduction of the test at KNCAP is necessary. The dummy model used in the simulation was the 50th percentile male Hybrid III dummy.
The impact echo and impulse response methods were applied to the safety inspection of concrete structure, which has the rear cavity. The concrete structure model used in this study was divided into four sections, pure concrete, concrete+cavity, reinforced concrete with iron bar, and reinforced concrete+cavity, respectively. Previous study performed by authors have showed a possibility of success to use these method for detection of the rear cavity of concrete structure. Therefore, we tried to get more enhanced result with IE and IR methods through this study. Especially, IE and IR methods are relatively accurate to map the point of measurement, which makes it possible to interpret the depth of the concrete bed and effect by rear cavity with confidence. Followings were revealed from the results; the IE method shows some small peak zones probably indicating the rear cavity in the frequency lower than the resonance frequency and the changes of mobility and dynamic stiffness in the IR method indicate the weak zones. The proposed methods can be used to delineate the weak zones of the concrete structure.
The development of transportation methods has improved human transportation convenience and made it possible to expand the travel radius of people with disabilities who have difficulty moving. However, in the case of WAV (wheelchair Accessible Vehicle), the safety that may occur in a vehicle accident is still lower than that of regular passenger seats. In particular, in the case of a rear-end collision that may occur in a defenseless situation, it can cause fatal neck injuries to disabled passengers. Therefore, a more detailed design plan must be reflected in the headrest to be applied to WAV. In this study, a multi-cell headrest was proposed to implement local compression characteristic distribution of the headrest during rear-end collision of WAV. Afterwards, a correlation analysis was performed between the passenger's NIC (Neck Injury Criterion) and impact energy absorption using the data set construction through analysis and the clustering results using k-means clustering. As a result of clustering, it was confirmed that data clusters with similar characteristics were formed, and a correlation analysis between NIC and impact energy absorption through the characteristics of each cluster was performed. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the softer the cell compression characteristics in Mid3 and Mid6, the more impact energy absorption increases, and the harder the cell compression characteristics in Front2, Mid3, and Mid6, the more effective it is in reducing NIC.
Objective: The aim of this study was to quantitatively analyze the impact characteristics of the lower extremity on strike pattern during running. Method: 19 young subjects (age: 26.53 ± 5.24 yrs., height: 174.89 ± 4.75 cm, weight: 70.97 ± 5.97 kg) participated in this study. All subjects performed treadmill running with fore-foot strike (FFS), mid-foot strike (MFS), and rear-foot strike (RFS) to analyze the impact characteristics in the lower extremity. Impact variables were analyzed including vertical ground reaction force, lower extremity joint moments, impact acceleration, and impact shock. Accelerometers for measuring impact acceleration and impact shock were attached to the heel, distal tibia, proximal tibia, and 50% point of the femur. Results: The peak vertical force and loading rate in passive portion were significantly higher in MFS and FFS compared to FFS. The peak plantarflexion moment at the ankle joint was significantly higher in the FFS compared to the MFS and RFS, while the peak extension moment at the knee joint was significantly higher in the RFS compared to the MFS and FFS. The resultant impact acceleration was significantly higher in FFS and MFS than in RFS at the foot and distal tibia, and MFS was significantly higher than FFS at the proximal tibia. In impact shock, FFS and MFS were significantly higher than RFS at the foot, distal tibia, and proximal tibia. Conclusion: Running with 3 strike patterns (FFS, MFS, and RFS) show different impact characteristics which may lead to an increased risk of running-related injuries (RRI). However, through the results of this study, it is possible to understand the characteristics of impact on strike patterns, and to explore preventive measures for injuries. To reduce the incidence of RRI, it is crucial to first identify one's strike pattern and then seek appropriate alternatives (such as reducing impact force and strengthening relevant muscles) on that strike pattern.
