  • We have developed new rear LCD Projection TV engine with 3 projection lens. It has high brightness and contrast ratio, however poor cooling conditions. If optical components close to light source, optical components are damaged on high temperature, especially the blue among RGB colors is weakest by heat In this study, a new enhanced cooling method of LCD projection TV with 3 lens is shown: the best suited design of duct and relations between LCD panel and polarizer lifetime with changed area of duct.

  • MD (DLP, LCoS) Projection TV is appropriate for large screen display with high definition at a relatively low price and thus, has been popular in the digital TV market. In order to realize high resolutions in the DLP projection TV, we successfully developed the Pixel Enhancement Actuator. Furthermore, it is also required that the contrast ratio of projected video signals onto a large screen should be improved. Therefore, we propose a contrast enhancer which adjusts the amount of projected lights by a dynamic aperture and a attached position sensor.

  • From the optimal system specifications of optical parts in rear projection TV focused on competitive price and performances, we designed and developed projection lens which is able to be used on current broadcast standard NTSC and HDTV in common. Through the serial processes, which are initial design of all aberrations free, aspherization of the plastic lenses, optimization with tolerances and manufacturability, and athermalization, the lens was designed. The developed CRT-lens ass'y could display the 40-55 inches image and it's resolution is more than 1000 TV-lines.

  • In the rear projection TV, the optimal system configurations of optical parts are presented, which are focused on competitive price and performances. From the initial design with five Seidel aberrations free, aspherization of the plastic lenses, and optimization with tolerances, a new lens consisting of two plastic and one glass lenses was designed. It is able to be used on current broadcast standard NTSC and digital TV in common. The developed CRT-lens assembly could display the 40 to 50 inch image and its resolution is more than 800 TV-lines.

  • Scintillation that is grainy patterns appeared on a screen has been one of a biggest issues in a rear projection TVs. In this paper, with focusing on the average size of random particle, it was proved that the particle size of calculated speckle and the one of measured scintillation are almost the equal. This result shows speckle phenomenon is an important factor of scintillation.

  • While recent display devices are becoming light and slim, the size of a screen is especially the important issue in the field of display devices. Furthermore, it is also required that the projection TV, a large screen display device, be able to represent higher resolutions as the digital broadcasting is set off. In order to realize high resolutions in a DLP projection TV, the number of pixel on DMD should be increased. However, a large number of pixels make it difficult to realize resulting small sized pixels and this cause the increase in cost. Therefore, we propose a simple and improved pixel enhancement actuator using the existing DMD by offsetting half pixels repeatedly in the vertical direction.

  • This thesis provides a new digital convergence method and apparatus which uses area photo sensor and new analog to digital algorithmic to identify the correct digital pattern position factor of the projection system. This method and apparatus can be applied to the convergence correction in a TV receiver with a display that comprises a display screen with photo sensors positioned adjacent to screen edges. It also can be applied to the manufacture process detection of the projection system to adjust the associative convergence parameter. In this paper, demonstrate how this convergence detecting algorithmic was implemented with four area photo sensors of special designed pattern to the rear projection CRT TV.

  • Large-screen projectors for video applications and computer monitors are convenient instruments for conference presentations as well as for TV use at home. Recently, CRT and LCD projectors have achieved higher resolutions and luminance in the projection TV The large surface of the CRT compared to the LCD allows a great number of pixels to be displayed, while simultaneously providing maximum brightness of the final picture. • Because of the wide plane and the curved field of CRT rear projection high definition television, its MTF(modulation transfer function) can't be easily measured by the usual forward testing method. Then we propose a backward testing method for the MTF so that the object plane and the image analyzer of forward testing are located at positions opposite each other. We prefer to use the backward testing method because the forward testing method has poor accuracy caused by very small numerical aperture, low spatial resolutions, and long depth of focus. We found that the backward testing method was very easy to align and had high repeatability. We confirmed the confidence of results obtained by the backward testing method in comparison with designed results.
