  • In this paper, for the purpose of designing an real-time unmanned monitoring system, the YOLOv5s (small) object detection model was applied on the NVIDIA TX2TM AI (Artificial Intelligence) edge computing platform in order to design the fundamental function of an unmanned monitoring system that can detect objects in real time. YOLOv5s was applied to the our real-time unmanned monitoring system based on the performance evaluation of object detection algorithms (for example, R-CNN, SSD, RetinaNet, and YOLOv5). In addition, the performance of the four YOLOv5 models (small, medium, large, and xlarge) was compared and evaluated. Furthermore, based on these results, the YOLOv5s model suitable for the design purpose of this paper was ported to the NVIDIA TX2TM AI edge computing system and it was confirmed that it operates normally. The real-time unmanned monitoring system designed as a result of the research can be applied to various application fields such as an security or monitoring system. Future research is to apply NMS (Non-Maximum Suppression) modification, model reconstruction, and parallel processing programming techniques using CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) for the improvement of object detection speed and performance.

  • This paper proposes a high performance QoS (Quality of Service) traffic transmission scheme to provide real-time multimedia services in wireless networks. This scheme is based on both a traffic estimation of the mean rate and a header compression method by dividing this network model into two parts, core RTP/UDP/IP network and wireless access parts, using the IEEE 802.11 WLAN. The improvement achieved by the scheme means that it can be designed to include a means of provisioning the high performance QoS strategy according to the requirements of each particular traffic flow by adapting the header compression for real-time multimedia data. A performance evaluation was carried out to show the effectiveness of the proposed traffic transmission scheme.

  • We compare engineering students' learning performance in introductory Statistics classes of the two class types, traditional in-classroom classes with a few reports and real-time online classes with quizzes. Rates of missing classes and turning in homeworks are also included to explain learning attitude. Scores of quizzes, midterm test and final test are used to assess performance. Upto the midterm, the class type is not significant, but rates of missing classes and turning in homeworks are significant. Since the midterm, in-classroom class type reveals better final performance than real-time online class type, rate of turning in homeworks is significant, but rate of missing classes is not significant.

  • High performance digital computer technology enables the digital computer-based controllers to replace traditional analog controllers used for factory automations. This replacement, however, brings up the side effects caused by discrete quantization and non-real-time execution of control softwares. This paper describes the structure of real-time simulator and controller that can be used for design and verification of real-time digital controllers. The virtual machine concept adopted by real-time simulator make the proposed simulator be independent from the specific hardware platforms. The proposed system can also be used in the loosely coupled distributed environments connected through local area network using real-time message passing algorithm and virtual data table based on the shared memory mechanism.

  • Scaffold is used to produce bio sensor. Scaffold is required high dimensional accuracy. 3D printer is used to manufacture scaffold. 3D printer can't detect defect during printing. Defect detection is very important in scaffold printing. Real-time defect detection is very necessary on industry. In this paper, we proposed the method for real-time scaffold defect detection. Real-time defect detection model is produced using CNN(Convolution Neural Network) algorithm. Performance of the proposed model has been verified through evaluation. Real-time defect detection system are manufactured on hardware. Experiments were conducted to detect scaffold defects in real-time. As result of verification, the defect detection system detected scaffold defect well in real-time.

  • With the increasing popularity of computer-generated virtual influencers, the trend is rising especially on social media. Famous virtual influencer characters Lil Miquela and Imma were all created by CGI graphics workflows. The process is typically a linear affair. Iteration is challenging and costly. Development efforts are frequently siloed off from one another. Moreover, it does not provide a real-time interactive experience. In the previous study, a real-time graphic workflow was proposed for the Digital Actor Hologram project while the output graphic quality is less than the results obtained from the CGI graphic workflow. Therefore, a real-time engine graphic workflow for Virtual Influencers is proposed in this paper to facilitate the creation of real-time interactive functions and realistic graphic quality. The real-time graphic workflow is obtained from four processes: Facial Modeling, Facial Texture, Material Shader, and Look-Development. The analysis of performance with real-time graphical workflow for Digital Actor Hologram demonstrates the usefulness of this research result. Our research will be efficient in producing virtual influencers.

  • This paper proposes the development of delay compensator to minimize performance degradation caused by time delays in network-based real-time control systems. The delay compensator uses the time-stamp method as a direct delay measuring method to measure time delays generated between network nodes. The delay compensator predicts the network time delays of next period in the views point of time delays and minimizes performance degradation from network through considering predicted time delays. Control output considering network time delays is generated by the defuzzification of probable time delays of next period. The time delays considered in the delay compensator are modeled by using a timed Petri net model. The proposed delay prediction mechanism for the delay compensator is evaluated through some simulation tests by measuring deviation of the predicted delays from simulated delays.

  • The real-time industrial network often referred to as fieldbus, is an important element for building automated manufacturing systems. Thus, in order to satisfy the real-time requirements of field devices such as sensors, actuators, and controllers. numerous standard organizations and vendors have developed various fieldbus protocols such as Profibus, WorldFIP and Foundation Fieldbus. However, the application of fieldbus has been limited due to the high cost of hardware and the difficulty in interfacing with multi-vendor products. In order to solve these problems, the computer network technology, especially Ethernet (IEEE 802.3), is being adopted lo the industrial environment. The crucial technical obstacle for Ethernet is that its non-deterministic behavior makes it inadequate for industrial applications where real-time data such as control command and alarm signal hale to be delivered within a certain time limit. Recently, the development of switched Ethernet shows a very promising prospect for industrial application due to the elimination of uncertainties in the network operation resulting in much improved performance. This paper focuses on the application of the switched Ethernet for industrial comm unications.

  • The CAN is a serial communication protocol for distributed real-time control and automation systems. Data generated from field devices in the distributed control of power plant are classified into three categories: real-time event data, real-time control data, non-real-time data. These data share a CAN medium. If the traffic of the CAN protocol is not efficiently controlled, performance requirements of the power plant system could not be satisfied. This paper proposes a bandwidth allocation algorithm that can be applicable to the CAN protocol. The bandwidth allocation algorithm not only satisfies the performance requirements of the real-time systems in the power plant but also fully utilizes the bandwidth of CAN. The bandwidth allocation algorithm introduced in this paper is validated using the integrated discrete-event/continuous-time simulation model which comprises the CAN network and distributed control system of power plant.

  • In this paper, we describe a new approach to perform real-time implementation of an robust controller for robotic manipulator based on digital signal processors in this paper. The Texas Instruments DSPs chips are used in implementing real-time adaptive control algorithms to provide enhanced motion control performance for dual-arm robotic manipulators. In the proposed scheme, adaptation laws are derived from model reference adaptive control principle based on the improved direct Lyapunov method. The proposed adaptive controller consists of an adaptive feed-forward and feedback controller and time-varying auxiliary controller elements. The proposed control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for real-time control. Moreover, this scheme does not require any accurate dynamic modeling, nor values of manipulator parameters and payload. Performance of the proposed adaptive controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for robot manipulator consisting of dual arm with eight degrees of freedom at the joint space and cartesian space.
