  • In this paper, we propose a HMM(Hidden Markov Model)-based segmentation method to model shadows as well as foreground and background regions. The shadow of moving objects often keeps from visual tracking. We propose an HMM-based segmentation method which classifies each object in real time. In the case of traffic monitoring movies, the effectiveness of the proposed method was proved by experiments.

  • We have proposed a method to detect and track moving ships using position from Radar and image processor. Real-time segmentation of moving regions in image sequences is a fundamental step in the radar-camera integrated system. Algorithms for segmentation of objects are implemented by composing of background subtraction, morphologic operation, connected components labeling, region growing, and minimum enclosing rectangle. Once the moving objects are detected, tracking is only performed upon pixels labeled as foreground with reduced additional computational burdens.

  • This study utilized a spatial region growing segmentation and a classification using fuzzy membership vectors to detect the changes in the images observed at different dates. Consider two co-registered images of the same scene, and one image is supposed to have the class map of the scene at the observation time. The method performs the unsupervised segmentation and the fuzzy classification for the other image, and then detects the changes in the scene by examining the changes in the fuzzy membership vectors of the segmented regions in the classification procedure. The algorithm was evaluated with simulated images and then applied to a real scene of the Korean Peninsula using the KOMPSAT-l EOC images. In the expertments, the proposed method showed a great performance for detecting changes in land-cover.

  • Longitudinal quantification of brain changes due to development, aging or disease plays an important role in the filed of personalized-medicine applications. However, due to the temporal variability in shape and different imaging equipment and parameters, estimating anatomical changes in longitudinal studies is significantly challenging. In this paper, a longitudinal Magnetic Resonance(MR) brain image segmentation algorithm proposed by combining intensity information and anisotropic smoothness term which contain a spatial smoothness constraint and longitudinal consistent constraint into a variational framework. The minimization of the proposed energy functional is strictly and effectively derived from a fast optimization algorithm. A large number of experimental results show that the proposed method can guarantee segmentation accuracy and longitudinal consistency in both simulated and real longitudinal MR brain images for analysis of anatomical changes over time.

  • In this paper, we propose the method to find the active region of flame which is produced within the gap between an oxygen blown converter and a skirt. For real-time image processing, basic region segmentation algorithms such as thresholding and XORing are used to segment the active region of flame. The result of this processing may be useful to clear the relationship between hood pressure and flame.

  • As a method to control the bacteria number in adequate level, a real time control system based on microscope image processing measurement for the bacteria is adopted. For the experiment, Ammonia-oxidizing bacteria such as Acinetobacter sp. are used. This paper proposed hybrid method combined watershed algorithm with adaptive automatic thresholding method to enhance segmentation efficiency of overlapped image. Experiments was done to show the effectiveness of the proposed method compared to traditional Otsu's method, Otsu's method with adaptive automatic thresholding method and human visual method.

  • Obtained disparity map from the stereo camera by using the several stereo matching algorithms carries lots of noise because of various causes. In our approach, mode filtering and noise elimination technique using the histogram and projection-based region merging methods are adopted for improving the quality of disparity map and image segmentation. The proposed algorithms are implemented in VHDL and the real-time experimentation shows the accurately divided objects.

  • Real-time traffic detection scheme based on Computer Vision is capable of efficient traffic control using automatically computed traffic information and obstacle detection in moving automobiles. Traffic information is extracted by segmenting vehicle region from road images, in traffic detection system. In this paper, we propose the advanced segmentation of vehicle from road images using multiple local region information. Because multiple local region overlapped in the same lane is processed sequentially from small, the traffic detection error can be corrected.

  • In this paper a target tracking algorithm of the centroid extraction from moving edges is proposed, It aims to avoid the difficulty of imahe segmentation in case of the centroid extraction from one frame. The performance of the proposed algorithmfor noisy and occluded images is discussed Finally it is also applied to a real time target tracker.
