A mixed adsorbent prepared by pyrolysing a mixture of carbon and flyash in 1:1 ratio was tested for its deceleration ability for three different classes of dyes, namely Astrazone Blue FRR(C.I. Basic Blue 69), Teflon Blue ANL(C.I. Acid Slue 125) and Verofix Red(Reactive Red 3GL). Equilibrium investigations were carried out at the optimum conditions obtained in the previous studies. The equilibrium data fitted reasonably well to both the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption models. However the Langmuir model was more appropriate to describe the adsorption behavior of the dyes to the hybrid absorbent system compared with the Freundlich model. The mixed adsorbent cm be an low-cost alternative to activated carbons.

Cotton fabric is usually dyed with anionic dyes such as direct and reactive dyes. Naturally, there is no affinity for basic dyes to cotton fiber. In this study, to improve the dyeability of cotton fiber with cationic dyes, the fabric was pretreated with air plasma and grafted with acrylic acid to create acidic groups on the surface of cotton fibers. The grafted samples were dyed with natural cationic dye extracted from roots of berberis vulgaris. The effect of plasma treatment and grafting of acrylic acid on the color strength of cotton fabric was studied.
Several white-rot fungi collected from the mountains of Korea were evaluated for their ability to decolorize azo, polymeric, and reactive dyes. Strains CJ-105, CJ-212 and CJ-315, identified as Trametes sp., Pleurotus sp. and Fomes sp., respectively, showed higher potential for decolorization of those dyes in either solid or liquid media. For Trametes sp. CJ-105, 100ppm of Remazol Brilliant blue R and 500ppm of Acid Red 264 were completely decolorized after 2 days under liquid culture. The dominating ligninolytic enzyme existing in the culture broth was laccase (E.C. 1.10.3.2). Also, Pleurotus sp. CJ-212 and Fomes sp. CJ-315 showed similar patterns in decolorization of Remazol Brilliant Blue R and Acid Red 264. The extent of decolorization of the dyes in liquid culture was found to be proportional to the activities of the ligninolytic of decolorization of the dyes in liquid culture was found to be proportional to the activities of the ligninolytic enzymes produced by each strain. In addition to that Trametes sp. CJ-105 was highly effective in degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and pentachlorophenol by the activity of the ligninolytic enzymes produced. In this study, we found that white-rot fungi, Trametes sp. CJ-105(KFCC 10941), Pleurotus sp. CJ-212(KFCC 10943) and Fomes sp. CJ-315(KFCC 10942), were effective in decolorizing a wide range of structurally different synthetic dyes, as well as some chemical compounds which are known to be hardly degradable.
Strains degrading and decolorizing reactive dyes, Procion blue HEGN and Procion red HE7B were isolated from water system, are named as RBK1 and RRK, the growth characteristics of which were investigated. Decolorization efficiencies after 42 hrs in batch culture were 95% and 77%, respectively. and the optimal culture condition of temperature and pH were $30^{\circ}C$, 7.0. Decolorization efficiencies in condition of aerobic shaking culture by strains RBK1 and RRK conspicuously increased, and culture by strain RBK1 was found as 95% after 42 hrs, while standing culture was 64%, Optimum nitrogen source was peptone, and It was found that decolorization efficiencies by strains RBK1 and RRK increased up to 4,000mg/l of peptone concentration as nitrogen source, but peptone concentration did' nt influence the decolorization efficiency in above 4,000mg/l. When the concentration of dyes were more than 800 mg/l and 400 mg/l respectively, the strains RBK1 and RRK, which degrade Procion bule HEGN and Procion red HE7B, showed a sharply decreased decolorization efficiencies; then the specific growth rate were $0.25hr^{-1}$ and $0.09hr^{-1}$.
This study focused on estimating the feasibility of a strong basic anion exchanger (PA312OH) as a sorbent for the removal of residual reactive dye and saving chemicals and water. Cellulose reactive dye C.I.RB49 was tested because reactive dye is the largest single group of dyes and that dye needs larger amount of inorganic salts as dyeing agent but nearly 50% of reactive dyes may be lost to the effluent. The adsorption characteristics of PA312OH for C.I.RB49 were as follows. Ion-selectivity among the dye and inorganic salts was Dye > ${SO_4}^{2-}$ > ${CO_3}^{2-}$ > $Cl^-$. C.I.RB49 was exchanged more than 3 times ${SO_4}^{2-}$ and ${CO_3}^{2-}$ and $Cl^-$ was not exchanged absolutely. The exchanging velocity was increased exponentially with increasing temperature. This result is positive effect on treating the high temperature dyeing process wastewater. The exchanged dye percents to initial were 96.8% and 99% at flow rate 20.5 mL/min. and 3.7 mL/min.. The exchanging capacity of PA312OH for C.I.RB49 was 215.2 mg/g at conc.=369.2 mg/L, Temp.=$25^{\circ}C$. 74% inorganic salts were recrystallized from real dark reactive color dyeing wastewater treated with PA312OH.
The dye-resist effect of reactive dye-resist agents in reactive dyeing of silk was investigated. The dichlorotriazine-based dye-resists achieved a higher effectiveness than others since they make a charge barrier of diffusion in the silk fiber periphery due to high reactivity of dichlorotriazine group. Similarly, in the case of hetero-multifunctional dye-resist agent, the dye-resist agent containing both a dichlorotriazine and an ${\alpha}$-bromoacrylamide reactive groups achieved better resist effectiveness than those containing both a monochlorotriazine and an ${\alpha}$-bromoacrylamide groups. Also, their resist effectiveness was improved by increasing the number of sulfonate groups in the dye-resist agents and the number of reactive groups in the reactive dyes applied to them.
In this paper, a new regenerated celluosic fiber, "Tencel" was treated with cellulase enzyme. Also Tencel fabrics were pretreated with NaOH and dyed with various reactive dyes, and subsequently finished with DMDHEU. $\Delta{E}^*_{ab}$ value was calculated by measuring color difference before and after wet abrasion test to rubbing. The fibrillation propensity was estimated on Tencel by means of weight loss, $\Delta{E}^*_{ab}$ value, and SEM observation. Weight loss of NaOH pretreated Tencel fabric is more lower than that of original fabric. The cellulase treatment decreased tensile strength but improved wet abrasion strength, wrinkle recovery, and bending properties. Tendency of fibrillation for Tencel fabric was reduced by NaOH-pretreatment, dyeing with multifunctional reactive dyes, and afterfinishing by DMDHEU.by DMDHEU.
The anionic agent containing dichloro-s-triazinyl reactive group was synthesized and applied to the cotton fabrics to introduce covalent bonds. This attempt was expected to improve the affinities of cationic compounds, such as cationic dyes, chitosan, quaternary ammonium antimicrobial agents and metal ions, by the electrostatic attractive force. As expected, the anionic agent was reacted with cotton fabrics at room temperature. In order to examine the adsorptivity of the cationic compounds on to the anionized cotton fabrics, firstly a cationic dye(C. I. Basic Violet 7) was applied. The color strength of the dyeing of anioized cotton fabric was highly increased comparing to that of untreated fabric.
We have studied on the experimental variables such as optimum adsorption condition, color changes, light fastness, antimicrobial properties, and wash durability of the cotton fabrics treated with gallnut extracts. Treatment of gallnut extracts on the cotton fabrics was optimally achieved at 6$0^{\circ}C$ for 60min. Gallnut extracts did not cause unintended color change after treatment on the cotton fabrics dyed with reactive dyes. The cotton fabrics treated with gallnut extracts showed good light fastness, though we took into the account the extract is a natural material. The cotton fabrics treated with 10.0% o.w.f. of gallnut extracts had strong antimicrobial activity and good wash durability.
