  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of taekwondo and allium tuberosum intake on body composition, blood lipids and C-reactive protein in male high school students. Twenty-four male students of B city volunteered to be test subjects. Experimental groups were taekwondo with allium turberosum group (A, n=6), taekwondo group (B, n=6), allium tuberosum group (C, n=6), control group (D, n=6). The total experimental period was 10 weeks. Groups A and B practiced taekwondo 4 times a week for 10 weeks with an intensity of 60~80% HRR. Each practice was 50 minutes. Groups A and C were instructed to take an allium tuberosum pill every day before their taekwondo exercise during the 10 weeks. The results of this study are as follows: Within groups A, B and C, there was a significant decreas in % fat. Groups A and B showed a significant increase in HDL-C concentration, as well as a more significant increase in HDL-C concentration than groups C and D. Group A showed a more significant decreased in LDL-C concentration than group D. In conclusion, taekwondo and allium tuberosum intake seem to have a positive effect on % fat, HDL-C and LDL-C. Further research regarding the effect of allium tuberosum diets is required.

  • This paper presents design and fabrication of optimized geometry structure of electrostatic inkjet head. In order to verify effect of geometry shape, we simulate electric field intensity according to the head structure. The electric field strength increases linearly with increasing height of the micro nozzle. As the nozzle diameter decreases, the electric field along the periphery of the meniscus can be more concentrated. We design and fabricate the electrostatic inkjet heads, hole type and pole type, with optimized structure. It was fabricated using thick-thermal oxidation and silicon micromachining technique such as the deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) and chemical wet etching process. It is verified experimentally that the use of the MEMS inkjet head allows a stable and sustainable micro-dripping mode of droplet ejection. A stable micro dripping mode of ejection is observed under the voltages 2.5 kV and droplet diameter is $10\;{\mu}m$.

  • In order to research the anti-oxidative activity of methanol extract of Phellinus baumii Pilat (Hymenochaetaceae), Caenorhabditis elegans model system was used. Ethyl acetate soluble fraction of the methanol extract showed the most potent DPPH radical scavenging activity. The ethyl acetate fraction was measured on its activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and oxidative stress tolerance with reactive oxygen species (ROS) level in C. elegans. Furthermore, to see if regulation of stress-response gene is responsible for the increased stress tolerance of C. elegans which treated by the ethyl acetate fraction, we checked SOD-3 expression using a transgenic strain. Consequently, the ethyl acetate fraction of P. baumii increased SOD and the catalase activities in a dose-dependent manner in C. elegans, reduced ROS accumulation dose-dependently. Besides, the ethyl acetate fraction-treated CF1553 worms showed higher SOD-3::GFP intensity than the control worms.

  • In this work, the effect of a direct oxyfluorination on surface and mechanical interfacial properties of PAN-based carbon fibers is investigated. The changes of surface functional groups and chemical composition of the oxyfluorinated carbon fibers are determined by FT-IR and XPS measurements, respectively. ILSS of the composites is also studied in terms of oxyfluorination conditions. As a result, FT-IR exhibits that the carboxyl/ester groups (C=O) at 1632 $cm^{-1} and hydroxyl group (O-H) at 3450 $cm^{-1} are observed in the oxyfluorinated carbon fibers. Especially, the oxyfluorinated carbon fibers have a higher O-H peak intensity than that of the fluorinated ones. XPS result also shows that the surface functional groups, including C-O, C=O, HO-C=O, and C-$F_x$ after oxyfluorination are formed on the carbon fiber surfaces, which are more efficient and reactive to undergo an interfacial reaction to matrix materials. Moreover, the formation of C-$F_x$ physical bonding of the carbon fibers with fluorine increases the surface polarity of the fibers, resulting in increasing ILSS of the composites. This is probably due to the improvement of interfacial adhesion between fibers and matrix resins.

  • The power quality of wind energy becomes more and more important in connecting wind-farms to the grid, especially weak grid. This paper presents the simulation of a wind farm of a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG). Flicker mitigation is performed by using PMSG as a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) to regulate the voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC). A benefit of the measure is that integrating two function of to control the active power flow and to reduce the voltage flicker in a wind farm. Simulation results show that controlling PMSG is an effective and economic measure in reducing the flicker during continuous operation of grid connected wind turbines regardless of short circuit capacity ratio, turbulence intensity and grid impedance angle.

  • The photocatalytic decolorization of Reactive Red 2B(RR2B) was studied using immobilized photocatalyst/UV System. Two pairs of 20 W UV-B and UV-C lamps were employed as the light source. Immobilization of $TiO_2$ was carried out using sponge (as the photocatalyst body) and silicone sealant(as the binder). The effects of parameters such as the thickness, pore size of sponge photocatalyst and attached material on the reactor bottom were investigated. The results showed that the optimum thickness of sponge photocatalyst was 1 cm. Decolorization of reactor which had the bottom coated $TiO_2$ was higher than that of reactor attached aluminum plate. Decolorization of photocatalyst with large pore size(mean pore size, 3.8 mm) was higher than that of the small(mean pore size, 1.75 mm). Initial decolorization of RR2B could be descrived using the Langmuir-Hinshelwood(L-H) model and gave constant values of $0.55mg/l{\cdot}min(k)\;and\;2.65{\times}10^{-2}l/mg(K)$, respectively.

  • In order to design a shear coaxial injector of solid particles with water, basic experiments on a particle laden jet are necessary. The purpose of the present study is to understand the effect of particle loading ratio on the particle spray characteristics (i.e. spreading angle, distribution of particle number density, velocity profiles, and particle developing region length). Hydro-reactive Al2O3 particles with a primary particle diameter of 35~50 ${\mu}m$ are used in this experiment. An automated particle feeder was designed to supply constant particle mass flowrates. Air is used as the carrier gas. To determine the air velocity at the orifice exit, tracers (aluminum oxide, 0.5~2 ${\mu}m$ primary diameter) are also supplied by a tracer feeder. A plain orifice type injector with 3 mm diameter, and 20 mm length was adopted. Particle image velocimetry is used to measure the mean and fluctuating velocity components along the axial and radial directions.

  • Al-doped ZnO (AZO) films were deposited on the plastic substrate by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) assisted DC magnetron sputtering. The AZO films were produced by sputtering a metallic target (Zn/Al) in a mixture of argon and oxygen gases. AZO films with an electrical resistivity of ${\sim}10^3\;{\Omega}cm$ and an optical transmittance of 80% were obtained even at a low deposition temperature. In-situ process control methods were used to obtain stable deposition conditions in the transition region without any hysteresis effect. The target voltage was controlled either at a constant DC power. It was found that the ratio of the zinc to oxygen emission intensity, I (O 777)/I (Zn 481) decreased with increasing the target voltage in the transition region. The $Ar/O_2$ plasma treatment improve the adhesion strength between the polycarbonate substrate and AZO films.
