Background: Amphotericin B is a mainstay in the treatment of many systemic fungal infections due to its wide antifungal spectrum and low incidence of resistance. However, the use of amphotericin B is limited by its nephrotoxicity. Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the incidence and risk factors of renal adverse drug reactions (ADRs) of conventional amphotericin B (Fungizone$^{(R)}$). In addition, we compared the changes of serum creatinine (SCr) between patients who remained conventional amphotericin B and patients who were switched to liposomal amphotericin B after occurrence of renal adverse reactions. Methods: Adult hospitalized patients who reported renal adverse reactions caused by conventional amphotericin B from January 2011 to July 2012 at pharmacovigilance center in Yonsei University Healthcare System included in this study. ADRs scored as 'doubtful' in Naranjo probability ADR scale were excluded. We retrospectively analyzed patients' basic clinical characteristics, concurrent diseases or nephrotoxic drugs in order to find variables that can correlate with occurrence of renal ADRs. Changes in SCr were compared between conventional amphotericin B group and liposomal amphotericin B group. Results: A total of 231 ADRs after administration of conventional amphotericin B in 75 patients were reported to pharmacovigilance center and assessed their severities as 'possible', 'probable', or 'definite'. Renal adverse reaction was the most common ADR with incidence rate of 42% (96 of 231 ADRs). Mean change in SCr from baseline was 0.26 mg/dL (change % 37.8) and statistically significant (p=0.000). Simple correlations analysis revealed that the number of concurrent diseases and number of nephrotoxic drugs were positively correlated with changes in SCr, but these results were not statistically significant. Among 43 patients who remained amphotericin B after occurrence of renal ADRs, 27 patients was administered conventional amphotericin B and 16 patients changed to liposomal amphotericin B. Mean change in SCr in amphotericin B group was 0.23 mg/dL (32.75%), whereas mean change in SCr in liposomal amphotericin B group were -0.28 mg/dL (19.38%) and difference between two groups was statistically significant (p=0.003). The numbers of patient with SCr elevation more than 30% were 9 (33.3%) in amphotericin B group and 2 (12.5%) in liposomal amphotericin B group (Odd Ratio=3.50, 95% Confidence Interval 0.65-18.85; p=0.130). Conclusion: An analysis of ADRs due to amphotericin B administration revealed significant mean changes in SCr from baseline. Switching to liposomal amphotericin B showed significant decrease in SCr compared with conventional amphotericin B.
The use of low-toxic, hypoallergenic, and environmentally friendly natural pigments has increased. With growing interest in health, research on natural extracts containing beneficial substances for the human body is actively underway. In this study, natural pigments were extracted from sprout barley using a solvent extraction method and CCD-RSM was used to optimize the extraction process. The experiment's independent variables included extraction temperature, alcohol/ultra-pure volume ratio, and extraction time. The response variables were set to achieve a target chromaticity (L = 45, a = -35, b = 45), and to maximize DPPH radical scavenging activity evaluating the antioxidant capacity. The statistical significance of the main effect, interaction effect, and effect on the response value was evaluated and analyzed through the F and P values for the regression equation variables calculated using RSM optimization. Additionally, the reliability of the experiment was also confirmed through the P values of the probability plot graph. The extraction conditions for optimizing the four reaction values are 76.1 vol.% alcohol/ultra pure water volume ratio, an extraction temperature of 52.9 ℃ , and an extraction time of 49.6 min. Under these conditions, the theoretical values of the reaction values are L = 45.4, a = -36.8, and b = 45.0 DPPH radical scavenging activity = 30.9%. When the actual experiment was conducted under these optimal extraction conditions and analyzed, the measured values were L = 46.2, a = -36.1, and b = 48.2, and antioxidant capacity = 31.1% with an average error rate of 2.9%.
The distribution of $^{51}Cr\;and\;^{128}I$ recoil species following radiative-neutron capture in chromates, dichromates, iodates and periodates has been investigated by using paper-electrophoresis. In view of the effective recoil energy and the effect of the internal conversion, it is unlikely that an atom which has captured a neutron can remain bound in its original molecule. It is also unlikely that the energy of the recoil atom is dissipated in heating a small region of the crystal. However, the results of paper-electrophoresis separation of recoil $^{51}Cr\;and\;^{128}I$ indicated that many more of the recoil atoms were bound in the parent molecule. The disorder model for the reaction was proposed from observations of retention. In considering cations, the greater their radii, the higher is the probability of the recoil atom breaking through the secondary cage. In ammonium salt, the ammonium ion behaved as a reducing agent in the disorder zone and resulted in low retention. Crystal structures with their greater free space have shown low retention.
To evaluate the seroprevalence against circumsporozoite protein (CSP) of Plasmodium vivax in sera of Korean patients, the central repeating domain (CRD) of CSP was cloned and analyzed. From the genomic DNA of patient's blood, 2 kinds of CSPs were identified to belong to a VK210 type, which is the dominant repeating of GDRA(D/A)GQPA, and named as PvCSPA and PvCSPB. Recombinantly expressed his-tagged PvCSPA or PvCSPB in Escherichia coli reacted well against sera of patients in western blot, with the detecting rate of 47.9% (58/121), which included 15 cases positive for PvCSPA, 6 cases positive for PvCSPB, and 37 cases for both. The mixture of PvCSPA and PvCSPB was loaded to a rapid diagnostic test kit (RDT) and applied with the same set of patient sera, which resulted in detection rates of 57.0% (69/121). When the protein sequences of PvCSPA were compared with those of P. vivax in endemic regions of India and Uganda, they were compatibly homologous to PvCSPA with minor mutations. These results suggested that the recombinant PvCSPA and PvCSPB loaded RDT may be a milestone in latent diagnosis which has been a hot issue of domestic malaria and important for radical therapy in overlapped infections with P. falciparum in tropical and subtropical areas. During the biological process of malarial infection, exposure of CSP to antigen-antibody reaction up to 57.0% is the first report in Korea.
The promoting effect of rhodium on the structure and activity of the supported Cu-Co based catalysts for CO hydrogenation was investigated in detail. The samples were characterized by DRIFTS, $N_2$-adsorption, XRD, $H_2$-TPR, $H_2$-TPD and XPS. The results indicated that the introduction of rhodium to Cu-Co catalysts resulted in modification of metal dispersion, reducibility and crystal structure. DRIFTS results of CO hydrogenation at reaction condition (P=2 MPa, $T=260^{\circ}C$) indicated the addition of 1 wt % rhodium improved hydrogenation ability of Cu-Co catalysts. The ethanol selectivity and CO conversion were both improved by 1 wt % Rh promoted Cu-Co based catalysts. The alcohol distribution over un-promoted and rhodium promoted Cu-Co based catalysts obeys A-S-F rule and higher chain growth probability was got on rhodium promoted catalyst.
Objective: The timed up and go (TUG) test is method used to determine the functional mobility of persons with stroke. Its reliability, validity, reaction rate, fall prediction, and psychological characteristics concerning ambulation ability have been validated. However, the relationship between TUG performance and community ambulation ability is unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the TUG performance time could indicate community ambulation levels (CAL) differentially in persons with chronic stroke. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Eighty-seven stroke patients had participated in this study. Based on the self-reporting survey results on the difficulties experienced when walking outdoors, the subjects were divided into the independent community ambulation (ICA) group (n=35) and the dependent community ambulation group (n=52). Based on the area under the curve (AUC), the discrimination validity of the TUG performance time was calculated for classifying CAL. The Binomial Logistic Regression Model was utilized to produce the likelihood ratio of selected TUG cut-off values for the distinguishing of community ambulation ability. Results: The selected TUG cut-off values and the area under the curve were <14.87 seconds (AUC=0.871, 95% confidence interval=0.797-0.945), representing a mid-level accuracy. Concerning the likelihood ratio of the selected TUG cut-off value, it was found that the group with TUG performance times shorter than 14.87 seconds showed a 2.889 times higher probability of ICA than those with a TUG score of 14.87 seconds or longer (p<0.05). Conclusions: The TUG can be viewed as an assessment tool that is capable of classifying CAL.

Experimental and numerical studies have been done to examine the effects of excess air ratio and tertiary air swirl number on the formation characteristics of NOx in a pilot scale combustor adopting a multi-air staged burner. In numerical calculation the mathematical models for turbulence, radiation and nitric oxide chemistry were taken into account. The radiative transfer equation was solved using the discrete ordinates method with the weighted sum of gray gases model. In the NOx chemistry model, the chemical reaction rates for thermal and prompt NOx were statistically averaged using a probability density function. The results were validated by comparison with measurements. For the experiment, a 0.2 MW pilot multi-staged air burner has been designed and fabricated. Using the numerical simulation developed here, a variation of thermal and prompt NOx formation was predicted by changing the excess air ratio and tertiary air swirl number. As the excess air ratio increased up to 1.9, the formation of the total as well as thermal NOx at exit increased while the prompt NOx decreased. The formation of thermal NOx was more affected by concentration of $O_2$ and $N_2$ than gas temperature. When the tertiary air swirl number increased, the formation of the total as well as the prompt NOx slightly decreased.
Recently, percentage of people who use SMS service is increasing. However, it is difficult to express own complicated emotion with text and emoticon of exited SMS service. This paper focuses on that point and practical uses character animation to express emotion and nuance correctly, funny. Also this paper suggests emotion based gesture animation generation system that use character's facial expression and gesture to delivery emotion excitably and clearly than only speaking. Michel[1] investigated interview movies of a person whose gesturing style they wish to animate and suggested gesture generation graph for stylized gesture animation. In this paper, we make focus to analyze and abstracted emotional gestures of Disney animation characters and did 3D modeling of these emotional gestures expanding Michel[1]'s research. To express emotion of person, suggests a emotion gesture generation graph that reflects emotion flow graph express emotion flow for probability. We investigated user reaction for research the propriety of suggested system and alternation propriety.
African marigold is a common plant easily available in many flower beds. It has been reported as a practical and prospective resource of dyes since the dyes can be extracted from their bodies as well as petals. In this research, cotton and ramie fabrics which are made from natural cellulose were dyed using the extract of the African Marigold which is a variety of marigold. Dyeing tests were carried out under different pH of the dye solution and mordants. Dyeability was evaluated by examining and measuring surface color, K/S value, and the changes in the maximum absorption wavelength. The probability of improving dyeability was investigated by pre-mordanting with pre-treated chitosan. For the dyeing with marigold extract, the color tone did not differ by pre-mordanting and non-mordanting. Reaction with post-mordanting was excellent, which was colored in various yellow series. The best dyeability was achieved in dye solution of pH 6.5-7.0 which is not conditioned. The largest K/S value and color difference were obtained in tin mordanting. The dye uptake was greatly increased in chitosan pre-treated mordanting compared with the post-mordanting without chitosan pre-treatment. Due to its high heat resistance, African Marigold extract is easy for dye extraction and dyeing, and its dyeability is excellent for natural cellulose fibers. Also, colorfastness was proved to be practically usable.

Background: Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer affecting Malaysian women. Recent statistics revealed that the cumulative probability of breast cancer and related deaths in Malaysia is higher than in most of the countries of Southeast Asia. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in CYP2E1 (rs6413432 and rs3813867), STK15 (rs2273535 and rs1047972) and XRCC1 (rs1799782 and rs25487) have been associated with breast cancer risk in a meta-analysis but any link in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, remained to be determined. Hence, we investigated the relationship between these SNPs and breast cancer risk among Malaysian women in the present case-control study. Materials and Methods: Genomic DNA was isolated from peripheral blood of 71 breast cancer patients and 260 healthy controls and subjected to polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analysis. Results: Our study showed that the c1/c2 genotype or subjects with at least one c2 allele in CYP2E1 rs3813867 SNP had significantly increased almost 1.8-fold higher breast cancer risk in Malaysian women overall. In addition, the variant Phe allele in STK15 rs2273535 SNP appeared to protect against breast cancer in Malaysian Chinese. No significance association was found between XRCC1 SNPs and breast cancer risk in the population. Conclusions: This study provides additional knowledge on CYP2E1, STK15 and XRCC1 SNP impact of risk of breast cancer, particularly in the Malaysian population. From our findings, we also recommend Malaysian women to perform breast cancer screening before 50 years of age.
