Kinetic and effectiveness factors for methanol steam reforming using commercial copper-containing catalysts in a plug flow reactor were investigated over the temperature ranges of $180-250^{\circ}C$ at atmospheric pressure. The selectivity of $CO_2$/$H_2$ was almost 100%, and CO products were not observed under reaction conditions employed in this work. It was indicated that $CO_2$ was directly produced and CO was formed via the reverse water gas shift reaction after methanol steam reforming. The intrinsic kinetics for such reactions were well described by the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model based on the dual-site mechanism. The six parameters in this model, including the activation energy of 103kJ/mol, were estimated from diffusion-free data. The significant effect of internal diffusion was observed for temperature higher than $230^{\circ}C$ or particle sizes larger than 0.36mm. In the diflusion-limited case, this model combined with internal effectiveness factors was also found to be good agreement with experimental data.

This paper resents a biological reaction model of describing processing features in treating wastewater via activated sludge A proposed model is designed by combining fuzzy rules investigating several elements which have influence on variables to be supervised BOD and SS are suggested as common variables in input and output variables, and O$_2$quantity is closed as input variable. We chose triangular type membership functions for input variables and determined the grades in each membership function based upon process data According to simulation result to show the validity of proposed model, fuzzy model's outputs give almost similar data to process output under same input conditions.
To investigate numerically the effect of all parameters on the outcome of an aircraft impact into robust engineering structures like nuclear power plant containments is a tedious task. In order to reduce the problem to a manageable size, we propose a single dimensionless parameter, the damage potential, to characterize the main features of the impact. The damage potential, which is the ratio of the initial kinetic energy of the aircraft to the work required to crush it, enables us to find the crucial parameter settings that need to be modelled numerically in detail. We show in this paper that the damage potential is indeed the most important parameter of the impact that determines the time-dependent reaction force when either finite element (FE) modelling or the Riera model is applied. We find that parameters that do not alter the damage potential, like elasticity of the target, are of secondary importance and if parameters are altered in a way that the damage potential remains the same then the course of the impact remains similar. We show, however, that the maximum value of the reaction force can be higher in case of elastic targets than in case of rigid targets due to the vibration of the target. The difference between the Riera and FE model results is also found to depend on the damage potential.
In spite of the difficulties and uncertain characteristic of cable driven method, surgical robot instrument has adopted it as driving mechanism for various reasons. To overcome the problem of cable system, previous research applied SMCSPO (sliding mode control with sliding perturbation observer) algorithm as robust controller to control the instrument and found that the value of SPO (sliding perturbation observer) followed force disturbance, reaction force loaded on the tip very similarly. Thus, this paper confirms that the perturbation observer is sufficient estimator which finds out the mount of loaded force on the surgical robot instrument. To prove the proposition, simulation using the similar model with an actual instrument and experimental evaluation are performed. The results show that it is possible to substitute SPO for sensors to measure the reaction force. This estimated reaction force will be used to realize haptic function by sending the reaction force to a master device for a surgeon. The results will contribute to create surgical benefit such as shortening the practice time of a surgeon and giving haptic information to surgeon by using it as haptic signal to protect an organ by making force boundary.

VOC(Volatile Organic Compound) removal characteristics in continuous flow reactors have been numerically investigated. The photocatalytic reaction have been simulated with the binding constant and the reaction rate constant obtained from experimental data for the constant-volume batch reactor, and then VOC abatement in continuous flow reactors with the same conditions as those of batch reactor has been analyzed. The standard 4\kappa-\varepsilon$ model and mass conservation equation have been employed for numerical calculation, and heterogeneous reaction rate has been used in terms of the boundary condition of the conservation equation. in the case of the continuous flow reactor, reaction characteristics have been estimated with various inlet velocities and with different number of baffles. The result shows that the concentration distribution and flow patterns are strongly affected by the inlet velocity, and that with the increased inlet velocity, VOC removal rate is increased, while removal efficiency is decreased. This result may be useful in the design of reactors with improved VOC removal efficiency.
Naphthalene hydrogenation reaction was performed as a model reaction for coal liquefaction. Product distributions of tetralin and decalin are sensitive to reaction temperature and hydrogen pressure. At 380$^{\circ}C$, hydrogenation reaction using sulfided pellet catalysts gives poor reproducibility and several experimental methods are tried to examine its cause. It was inferred that H$_2$S had, most possibly, a great effect on this phenomena and the effect of H$_2$S was systematically investigated at 250$^{\circ}C$. It is possible that the intermediate hydroaromatic compound (tetralin) is maximized by changing the partial pressure of H$_2$S. It was identified that the partial pressure of H$_2$S could be another important factor in addition to the reaction time and temperature in coal liquefaction using sulfided catalysts.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the transmission spectrum of the set calcium hydroxide dental cement (Dycal, L.D. Caulk Co. Milford, Del.) Cement was prepared for A T R spectra at a low powder-to-liquid ratio of 3.0gm/ml in order to retard the reaction and facilitate the manipulation of loading the cement into the cell. Spectra were recorded on an I R Spectrophotometer (MX-1, FT) at an agle of incidence of 55. The A T R cell was a RIIc Model TR5 with a hemisperical KRS-5 (Thallium-Bromide-Iodide). A spectrum was recorded within 3 minutes. Further spectra were recorded after 5,10,30 minutes and 1,5,24, 72 hours. The results were as follows; 1. The setting reaction between acid paste and base past would take place fastly within 10 minutes after mix, and that would be slow until 72 hours after mix. 2. In the set cements, some methyl salicylate and calcium hydroxide remained unreacted until 72 hours after mix. 3. The setting reaction and the reaction rate occuring at the surface and in the bulk cements were similar. 4. The chelates were bound together between calcium hydroxide and methyl salicylate.
The sulfuric acid leaching of ferromanganese dust was studied. The effect of acid concentration, reaction temperature, stirring rate, particle size and solid to liquid ratio on Mn and Fe extraction in the solution were investigated. It was found that the leaching rate of Mn and Fe increased with increasing reaction temperature and sulfuric acid concentration. Examination of data by shrinking core model suggested that the leaching rate is controlled by chemical reaction at the surface of particle. The activation energy for the leaching reaction of Mn and Fe were calculated to be 79.55 kJ/mol and 77.48 kJ/mol, respectively.
Transesterification of BHET (Bis (2-Hydroxyethyl) Terephthalate), monomer of PET (Poly Ethylene Terephthalate) to BHBT (Bis (4-Hydroxybutyl Terephthate), monomer of PBT (Poly Butylene Terephthalate), using 1,4-BD (1,4-butanediol) were investigated. Zinc acetate was used as a catalyst for the reaction. Amounts of BHET, EG, and THF (Tetrahydrofuran) in a batch reactor were measured for determining the reaction kinetics. Mathematical models of the batch reactor for the transesterification reaction were developed and used to characterize the reaction kinetics and the composition distribution of the reaction products. Model predictions for the transesterification were in good agreement with experimental results.
A method for depolymerization of PET by catalyzed glycolysis with an excess ethylene glycol(EG) to recover bis-hydroxyethyl terephthalate(BHET) was investigated. The product was analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). Effects of operation variables such as reaction temperature, reaction time, EG/PET weight ratio were examined and kinetics of the glycolysis was studied. High temperature increases the rate of depolymerization and the yield of BHET. But, repolymerization rate was also high at too high temperature and the yield at $250^{\circ}C$ was shown to be lower than that at $230^{\circ}C$. First order reaction model was proposed to describe the glycolysis reaction. Activation energies for the reaction were obtained to be 37.8 kJ/mol above $210^{\circ}C$ and 149.6 kJ/mol below $210^{\circ}C$, which shows the glycolysis reaction is a multiple reaction. A maximum yield of BHET of 71% was achieved at a reaction temperature of $230^{\circ}C$ for 6 hr with an EG/PET weight ratio 4.
