  • 1-Alkoxymethylphosphonates 4 and 1-alkylthiomethylphosphonates 5 can be prepared by the reaction of actal derivatives and diethyl trimethylsilyl phosphite in the presence of Lewis acid under mild conditions. The dependency of the chemoselectivities with Lewis acid on the reaction of O,S-acetals with phosphites is described.

  • Sonochemical Reformatsky reaction of aldehydes or ketones with ethyl bromoacetate in the presence of indium afforded $\beta-hydroxyesters$ in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. 2- or 3-Hydroxybenzaldehyde that contains an acidic hydrogen r eacted with ethyl bromoacetate to provide the desired compounds with the same efficiency. In the case of ethyl 2-bromopropanoate and ethyl 2-bromo-2-methylpropanoate, the desired products were obtained in good yields. Reaction of aldehyde with indium reagent in the presence of ketone group proceeded chemoselectively.

  • This study wa attempted to extract the Potash-Ammonia Fertilyzer in most satisfactory yield from the Uncalcinecl Domestic Alunite ore applying an optimal reaction conditions (Ammonia water concentration and applicable reaction pressure, etc.), it was found that almost all amount of $K_2SO_4$ was extracted in the forms of $K_2SO_4·(NH_4)_2SO_4$mixture under such conditions. The experimental data to note are as follows: 1. The optimal pressure applied to the reaction was 600 to 700 Psig. 2. The optimal concentration of Ammonia water was 7 Mol/L. 3. The reaction time needed was 3 hours. 4. The extraction rate and degree were not at variance with sorts and occurrences of Alunite ore.

  • Potentially dangerous nitrosamines have been shown to result from the reaction of sodium nitrogusside with several drugs under physiological conditions (pH 7.3 and $37^\circ{C})$. In each case the products were identical to those produced upon reaction with nitrous acid at much lower pH values. Reaction rates were shown to reflect a first order dependence on both amine and nitroprusside concentrations and to increase at higher pH values, approximately in proportion to concentrations of unprotonated amine. Fast reactions of sodium nitroprusside with reduced glutathione, cysteine, and ascorbate suppress but do not prevent the conversion of amines into N-nitrosamines. These results show sodium nitroprusside to be very potent nitrosating agent under physiological conditions and suggested nitrosamines may be formed during its normal pharmacological administration.

  • A simple and sensitive hydrogel-based detecting gel has been presented for the qualitative determination of cyanogen chloride(CK) using Konig reaction. To optimize Konig reaction conditions, the effects of pyridine and barbituric acid concentration were investigated. Under the optimized conditions, CK gas concentration was directly related with absorbance change at 567 nm. Based on aqueous solution test results, we finally prepared CK detecting hydrogel by absorbing pyridine and barbituric acid solution. Color change of the prepared CK detecting hydrogel was clearly observed when the detecting gel was exposed to 10 ppm CK gas.

  • Furfurylacetate was prepared and was chlorinated under various reaction conditions. At the low reaction temperature the chlorination product was composed of the stable trans-tetrachloride (yield, 25∼30%), decomposition product (low chlorine content), and unstable cis-tetrachloride. There were no appreciable quantity of the trichloride. At the high reaction temperature the chlorination products were exclusively decomposed. The reaction conditions, separation scheme, and the configurataion of the product were discussed.

  • Oligomerization of isobutene has been investigated using a few solid acid catalysts in order to produce efficiently triisobutenes that are useful chemical feedstocks for heavy alkylates and neo-acids. Several reaction conditions such as space velocity and isobutene concentration are evaluated, and a few cation exchange resins with various acid capacities were compared in the reaction. High trimers selectivity and high conversion can be obtained over a catalyst containing high acid capacity at low space velocity and relatively low isobutene concentration. The stability of a catalyst for the reaction is high when the acid capacity of the catalyst is high (for example Amberlyst-35).

  • The identification of thermal hazards associated with a process such as heats of reaction and understanding of thermodynamics before any large scale operations are undertaken. The evaluation of thermal behavior with operating conditions such as a reaction temperature, stirrer speed and reactants concentration in neutralization process of pigment plant are described. The experiments were performed by a sort of calorimetry with multimax reactor system The aim of the study was to evaluate the results of heat of reaction in terms of safety reliability to be practical applications. It suggested that we be proposed safe operating conditions and securities for accident prevention on reactor explosion through this study.

  • The effects of important parameters such as reaction time and pH on the Fenton's process were evaluated using a batch reactor. It was proven that organic materials and heavy metals in leachate could be successfully removed by Fenton's reagent. Favorable operation conditions were investigated. It was observed that the reaction between ferrous iron and hydrogen peroxide with the production of hydroxyl radical was almost complete in 10 minutes. That is, the oxidation of organic materials by Fenton's reagent was so fast that it was complete in 30 minutes with batch experiments. With the formation of carbonic acid, pH of the batch reactor decreased to favorable acidic conditions without acid addition. The oxidation of organic materials in the leachate showed a pH dependence and was most efficient in the pH range of 2-3.

  • An Ni-Al intermetallic coating has been produced by induction heating on mild steel. The effect of the induction heating conditions on the microstructure of the coating has been investigated. The reaction synthesis of the intermetallic compounds was promoted while increasing the heating rate and the holding time at reaction temperature. Especially, an NiAl phase corresponding to the initial composition of mixed powder was predominantly formed. However, the synthesis at low reaction temperatures occurred by solid state diffusion during the holding time and an Fe-Al reaction layer was formed at the interface with the substrate, regardless of the heating rate. The combustion synthesis of the intermetallic compound occurred at a temperature higher than 1023 K and resulted in an almost single phase NiAl structure.
