  • In this paper, a two-layer partial interaction composite beams model considering the higher order shear deformation of sub-elements is built. Then, the governing differential equations and boundary conditions for static analysis of linear elastic higher order composite beams are formulated by means of principle of minimum potential energy. Subsequently, analytical solutions for cantilever composite beams subjected to uniform load are presented by Laplace transform technique. As a comparison, FEM for this problem is also developed, and the results of the proposed FE program are in good agreement with the analytical ones which demonstrates the reliability of the presented exact and finite element methods. Finally, parametric studies are performed to investigate the influences of parameters including rigidity of shear connectors, ratio of shear modulus and slenderness ratio, on deflections of cantilever composite beams, internal forces and stresses. It is revealed that the interfacial slip has a major effect on the deflection, the distribution of internal forces and the stresses.

  • By using the electrochemical method, the relation between the deformation and the geometrical shape, and the effect of cold work on hydrogen absorption-desorption cycling in palladium were investigated, In order to study this problem, four kinds of the Pd specimens used were plates and bars as cold worked and annealed states. As results, it is found that the deformation of thickness direction in the palladium plates increased whereas other lateral directions decreased. But the palladium bars showed the same deformation ratio in all directions because of uniform distribution of the $\beta$ phase. Grains in the plate specimens were greatly deformed after hydrogenation cycling whereas grains in the bar specimens were pulverized. Also, deterioration of the hydrogen absorption rate of the bar specimen was larger than the plate specimen. And the effect of cold work on hydrogen absorption capacity was relatively small.

  • This thesis is to investigate the one-dimensional consolidation behavior of soft marine clay with uniform surcharges by perfoming numerical and experimental works. Parametric experimental works of centrifuge model test were carried out changing test conditions of gravitational level in centrifuge, magnitude of surcharges and construction sequence of applying surcharges. Results of centrifuge model experiments were analyzed by using the numerical technique of explicit finite difference method based on the finite strain consolidation theory, being known to be appropriate to analyze the consolidational behavior of soft clay with a very high initial void ratio using the Lagrangian and the material coordinate systems. Test results were in relatively good agreements with analyzed results in terms of excess pore pressure dissipation and consolidation settlement with time and final void ratio distribution.

  • The contact pressure in jointed plates was measured by means of an improved ultrasonic technique. In order to get calibration curve, the relationship between contact pressure and ratio of boundary and bottom echo of normal beam probes were obtained for the calibration blocks with various surface roughness. The ratio of boundary and bottom echoes were measured for the upper/under plates locally compressed with uniform pressure, and the distribution of contact pressure was obtaines. The measured pressure has a good agreement with results of FEM analysis. Thus the proposed ultrasonic method in this work is very useful to measure the contact pressure.

  • An elastic model is developed to predict the average thermal residual stresses in the matrix and fiber of a misoriented short fiber composite. The thermal residual stresses are induced by the mismatch in the coefficient of the thermal expansion of the matrix and fiber when the composite is subjected to a uniform temperature change. The model considers two special cases of fiber misorientation ; two-dimensional in-plane and three-dimensional axisymmetric. The analytical formulation of the model is based on Eshelby's equivalent inclusion method and is nuque in that it is able to account for interactions among fibers. The model is more general than past models and it is able to treat prior analyses of the simpler composite systems as extram cases. The present model is to investigate the effects of fiber volume fraction, distribution type, distribution cut-off angle, and aspect ratio on thermal residual stress for both in-plane and axisymmetric fiber misorientation. Fiber volum fraction, aspect ratio, and disturbution cut-off angle are shown to have more significant effects on the magnitude of the thermal residual stress than fiber distrubution type for both in-plane and axisymmetric misorientation.

  • Barium ferrite particles were synthesized from Ba(NO$_3$)$_2$, Fe(NO$_3$)$_3$ and KOH mixed solutions using hydrothermal crystallization in supercritical water. The experimental apparatus for production of barium ferrite is a flow-type apparatus. Fine barium ferrite particles were produced because supercritical water causes the metal hydroxides to be rapidly dehydrated before significant growth takes place. The effects of Fe/Ba ratio and reaction time on the formation, particle size, and magnetic properties of barium ferrite were studied. When Fe/Ba ratio were varied from 0.5 to 12, single-phase barium ferrite powder was only produced in the range of 0.5〈Fe/Ba〈2. Also, with elevating reaction time, the BaO.6Fe$_2$O$_3$ particle size grew smaller. Especially, uniform barium hexaferrite particles of size 100-200nm were obtained at 80sec. In this study, therefore, single-phase barium ferrite particles are highly stable and can be produced continuously in a reaction time of less then 2min.

  • Effective length factor approach for framed column design has long played an important design-aid role. This approach, however, is effective only when the columns are in the form of prismatic or uniform cross sections. Structural engineers who have to design or analyse framed columns with variable cross sections need some means to do their job. By using the finite element method, the stability analysis of the isolated compression members with variable cross sections and that of the framed columns are performed. The parameters considered in the stability analysis are taper and sectional property parameters of the columns, the second moment of inertia ratio of beam to column, and beam span to column height ratio. On the basis of the stability analysis results, effective length factor formulas for the columns with variable sections are derived.

  • In this paper, the static behavior of bi-directional functionally graded (FG) non-uniform thickness circular plate resting on quadratically gradient elastic foundations (Winkler-Pasternak type) subjected to axisymmetric transverse and in-plane shear loads is carried out by using state-space and differential quadrature methods. The governing state equations are derived based on 3D theory of elasticity, and assuming the material properties of the plate except the Poisson's ratio varies continuously throughout the thickness and radius directions in accordance with the exponential and power law distributions. The stresses and displacements distribution are obtained by solving state equations. The effects of foundation stiffnesses, material heterogeneity indices, geometric parameters and loads ratio on the deformation and stress distributions of the FG circular plate are investigated in numerical examples. The results are reported for the first time and the new results can be used as a benchmark solution for future researches.

  • To reduce the redundancy within samples that resulted from uniform sampling method, nonuniform sampling or nonredundant-sample coding methods can be considered. However, it is well known that when conventional nonuniform sampling methods are applied directly to speech signal, the required amount of data is comparable to or mure than that by uniform sampling method like PCM. To overcome this problem, a new nonuniform sampling method is proposed, in which nonuniform sampling is applied to the low-pass filtered speech signal and higher band is compensated by 8 colored Gaussian random noise with various noise levels. By this method, speech signal waveform can be encoded by 1.8 times larger compression ratio than the conventional nonuniform sampling method.

  • Experimental investigation of the flow field of supersonic cavity is described. In this research, supersonic cavity is used in chemical laser system. For efficient laser, downstream flow after cavity need to be uniform and clear for pressure recovery system. In previous research, it's known that there's oscillation In cavity and is due to Mach number and L/D ratio. A strong recompression occurs at the after wall and the flow is visibly unsteady. Cavity flow in this research is of the open type, that is, length-to-depth ratio $L/D<10\;at\;M\;=\;3$. Experiment is done with pressure measurement by piezo-type sensor and visualization by Schlirern method. The time-dependent experimental result is compared with computation.
