  • This study compares the criteria of earth leakage breakers (ELB) and analyzes the characteristics of an Igc-free ELB operated by an active component which is not misoperated by capacitive current. Even for the same ELB, the earth leakage current flowing through the human body is estimated to be differ greatly depending on the power source, voltage, location and status of contact, contact time duration, etc. Earth leakage breakers are classified based on the rated voltage, rated sensing current, rated operating time etc. Mounting and demounting of the existing equipment can be performed easily since an $I_{gc}$-free ELB is manufactured with the same structure as a conventional ELB. The rated operating current of a conventional and an $I_{gc}$-free ELB is 30mA, the sensing current is 25mA and the rated non-operating current is 15mA. In the analysis of non-operating current characteristics, the rated non-operating current of 15mA was satisfied up to a 20mA charging current in the conventional ELB, but does not satisfy the rated non-operating current as it operates when the resistive leakage current is lower than 15mA for a charging current exceeding 20mA. Also, the ELB is misoperated without a resistive leakage current when the charging current exceeded 25mA. However, the newly developed $I_{gc}$-free ELB satisfied the rated non-operating current even when the charging current was 60mA. Also, in comparison to the interrupting characteristics, it was confirmed that the charging current satisfying the rated non-operating current of the $I_{gc}$-free ELB was three times higher than that of the conventional ELB.

  • This study analyzes the operational characteristics of 311 aged and non-aged residual current circuit breakers (RCCBs) in low-voltage consumer contexts. It investigates the influence of external temperature and harmonics based on the rated current multiples. To simulate temperature variations, a convectional oven was used around the circuit breakers. Additionally, the generation of harmonic reference signals and data measurement for overcurrent experiments were conducted using NI SCXI, myDAQ, and LabVIEW. An observation revealed that as the ambient temperature increased, the operating time of RCCBs decreased in the time delay region. This was attributed to the faster response or bending of the bimetal, which is the tripping element. However, aged RCCBs encountered challenges with tripping outside the protective curve. The operating time of the circuit breakers exhibited an acceleration influenced by the order and content of harmonic currents, potentially leading to malfunctions. Aged RCCBs demonstrated faster operating times than their non-aged counterparts. However, the difference in operating time varied based on the manufacturer's and operating environment of the RCCBs. Frequent malfunctions of RCCBs can result in power outages. In cases where these circuit breakers fail to operate, they can lead to secondary damages, including electrical fires and shocks. Consequently, it is imperative to consider the operating environment of RCCBs and provide appropriate replacement cycles to mitigate these risks.

  • This paper presents a new velocity estimation strategy of a non-salient permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive without high frequency signal injection or special PWM pattern. This approach is based on the d-axis current regulator output voltage of the drive system that has the information of rotor position error. The rotor velocity can be estimated through a rotor position tracking PI controller that controls the position error to zero. For zero and low speed operation, PI controller gains of rotor position tracking controller have a variable structure according to the estimated rotor velocity. In order to boost the bandwidth of PI controller around zero speed, a loop recovery technique is applied to the control system. The proposed method only requires the flux linkage of permanent magnet and is insensitive to the parameter estimation error and variation. The designers can easily determine the possible operating range with a desired bandwidth and perform the vector control even at low speeds. The experimental results show the satisfactory operation of the proposed sensorless algorithm under rated load conditions.

  • The grid voltage of commercial utility power source hi Japan and USA is 100rms, but in China and European countries, it is 200rms. In recent years, In Japan 200Vrms out putted single phase three wire system begins to be used for high power applications. In 100Vrms utility AC power applications and systems, an active voltage clamped quasi-resonant Inverter circuit topology using IGBTs has been effectively used so far for the consumer microwave oven. In this paper, presented is a half bridge type voltage-clamped high-frequency Inverter type AC-DC converter using which is designed for consumer magnetron drive used as the consumer microwave oven in 200V utility AC power system. This zero voltage soft switching Inverter can use the same power rated switching semiconductor devices and three-winding high frequency transformer as those of the active voltage clamped quasi-resonant Inverter using the IGBTs that has already been used for 100V utility AC power source. The operating performances of the voltage source single ended push pull type Inverter are evaluated and discussed for consumer microwave oven. The harmonic line current components In the utility AC power side of the AC-DC power converter operating at ZVS­PWM strategy reduced and improved on the basis of sine wave like pulse frequency modulation and sine wave like pulse width modulation for the utility AC voltage source.

How do the work environment and work safety differ between the dry and wet kitchen foodservice facilities?

  • In order to create a worker-friendly environment for institutional foodservice, facilities operating with a dry kitchen system have been recommended. This study was designed to compare the work safety and work environment of foodservice between wet and dry kitchen systems. Data were obtained using questionnaires with a target group of 303 staff at 57 foodservice operations. Dry kitchen facilities were constructed after 2006, which had a higher construction cost and more finishing floors with anti-slip tiles, and in which employees more wore non-slip footwear than wet kitchen (76.7%). The kitchen temperature and muscular pain were the most frequently reported employees' discomfort factors in the two systems, and, in the wet kitchen, "noise of kitchen" was also frequently reported as a discomfort. Dietitian and employees rated the less slippery and slip related incidents in dry kitchens than those of wet kitchen. Fryer area, ware-washing area, and plate waste table were the slippery areas and the causes were different between the functional areas. The risk for current leakage was rated significantly higher in wet kitchens by dietitians. In addition, the ware-washing area was found to be where employees felt the highest risk of electrical shock. Muscular pain (72.2%), arthritis (39.1%), hard-of-hearing (46.6%) and psychological stress (47.0%) were experienced by employees more than once a month, particularly in the wet kitchen. In conclusion, the dry kitchen system was found to be more efficient for food and work safety because of its superior design and well managed practices.
