  • The relaxation process of photogenerated carriers was investigated using conductivity measurement on ZnO under He, $H_2,\; CO_2\; and\; O_2$. The process was well explained with the rate constant of reaction or recombination of hole and electron, $k_h \;and\; k_e ( k_h > k_e)$, respectively. Generally, $k_h$ increased with the pressure of the gases. The slope of $k_h$ with respect to the pressure increased in the order of $H_2{\le}He, while $k_h$ of $O_2$ was sensitive to the history of the sample. The relaxation process on ZnO which was exposed to oxygen at 298 K and 573 K was observed during the illumination at 298 K and it was found that the rate constant of hole decreased with illumination time. From the result, it was suggested that the rate constant of photogenerated excess carriers was affected by the surface barrier of the semiconductor.

  • In this paper, we propose an error control coding scheme for constant-amplitude multicode-biorthogonal modulation. The product code is appropriate to the constant-amplitude multicode-biorthogonal modulation for the bit error rate performance improvement. In the constant-amplitude multicode-biorthogonal modulation, the vertical redundant bits are used for the constant amplitude coding. The proposed product code can be constructed by using the additional horizontal redundant bits. The hardware complexity of the encoder/decoder pair is very low. The simulation results show that the bit error rate performance of the proposed coding scheme is improve

  • We present a passive flow-rate regulator, capable to compensate inlet pressure variation and to maintain a constant flow-rate for precise liquid control. Deflection of the parallel membrane valves in the passive flowrate regulator adjusts fluidic resistance according to inlet fluid pressure without any external energy. Compared to previous passive flow-rate regulators, the present device achieves precision flow regulation functions at the lower threshold compensation pressure of 20kPa with the simpler structure. In the experimental study, the fabricated device achieves the constant flow-rate of $6.09{\pm}0.32{\mu}l/s$ over the inlet pressure range of $20{\sim}50$ kPa. The present flow-rate regulator having simple structure and lower compensation pressure level demonstrates potentials for use in integrated micropump systems.

  • The distribution of fatigue crack growth rate is influenced by the measuring interval and methods of calculation of crack growth rate. The purpose of this paper is to suggest a method for the evaluation of crack growth rate distribution without the influence. The constant ${\Delta}P$ test and the constant .DELTA.K test are executed by using the CT specimen. The measuring interval of (${\Delta}a$/W=0.0067~0.014) crack length is not affected by methods of the calculation of the fatigue crack growth rate is suggested.

  • This study was attempted to investigate the dissolution rate and the bioavailability after oral administration of commercially available norfloxacin tablets in rabbits. The dissolution test was conducted in artificial gastric juice using basket method with for norfloxacin preparations (A, B, C and D) which were chemically equivalent. The results were as follows ; The dissolution rate was increased in the order of four different brand A>D>B>C. Area under the plasma concentration curve and peak plasma concentration were increased in the order of brand A>D>B>C. Absorption rate constant and peak time were increased in the order of brand B>A>C>D, and there was a little difference in elimination rate constant and biological half-life. The correlation of the dissolution rate and relative bioavailability showed significant linear relationship. From the results of this experiment, the bioavailability of norfloxacin tablets in rabbits may be predicted from the results of dissolution rate studies.

  • The optimum cross-sectional area profile of gas-cooled high-temperature superconductor(HTS) current lead is analyzed to have minimum helium boil-off rate. The conventional constant area HTS lead has much higher helium consumption than the optimum HTS lead considered in this study. The optimum HTS lead has variable cross-sectional area to have constant satiety factor. An analytical formula of optimum shape of lead and temperature profile are obtained. For multi-stacking HTS current leads, the optimum tape lengths and minimum heat dissipation rate are also formulated. The developed formulations are applied to the Bi-2223 material, and the differences between constant area, constant safety-factor, and multi-stacking current leads are discussed.

  • A constant volume combustion chamber was used to investigate the combustion characteristics. of homogeneous charge of methane-air mixture under various initial pressure, equivalence ratio and ignition times. The constant volume combustion chamber(CVCC) mostly has been studied by the experiments of visualization until now. So it is needed the numerical analysis of fluid and combustion characteristics in chamber by the more detail simulation. In this paper, the numerical analysis is tried to approach basically the homogeneous charge combustion phenomena under the various conditions, and the combustion phenomena in chamber is numerically analyzed by the commercial FIRE code. As a results, the combustion phenomena which were mean temperature, OH radical and reaction rate in chamber were investigated and it showed that the smallest flame growth occurs for the lean state and the increase of initial charged pressure condition due to the reduced OH radical.

  • Fine grained superplastic Zn-22%Al alloy was extruded using a laser machined micro-die to produce a micro-gear shaft. Extrusion process was conducted under a constant pressure at constant temperatures ranging from 503 to 563K. Laser machining was capable to machine a micro-die with close tolerances and adequate surface quality. The extrusion rate increased with extrusion load under constant extrusion temperature. The rate reached a steady state and became constant after a certain period. There was a small instantaneous stroke on application of the load and then a very brief primary stage which preceded steady-state flow. The micro-extrusion process was proven to produce a micro-gear shaft successfully using a fine grained superplastic Zn-22%Al alloy.

  • Purpose: Children born with single ventricle physiology demonstrate poor growth rate and suffer from malnutrition, which lead to increased morbidity and mortality in this population. We assume that an anabolic steroid, oxandrolone, will promote growth in these infants by improving myocardial energy utilization. The purpose of this paper is to study the efficacy of oxandrolone on myocardial energy consumption in these infants. Materials and Methods: We modeled single ventricle physiology in a lamb by prenatally shunting the aorta to the pulmonary artery and then postnatally, we monitored cardiac energy utilization by quantitatively measuring the first order reaction rate constant, $k_f$ of the creatine-kinase reaction in the heart using magnetization transfer $^{31}P$ magnetic resonance spectroscopy, home built $^1H/^{31}P$ transmit/receive double tuned coil, and transmit/receive switch. We also performed cine MRI to study the structure and dynamic function of the myocardium and the left ventricular chamber. The spectroscopy data were processed using home-developed python software, while cine data were analyzed using Argus software. Results: We quantitatively measured both the first order reaction rate constant and ejection fraction in the control, shunted, and the oxandrolone-treated lambs. Both $k_f$ and ejection fraction were found to be more significantly reduced in the shunted lambs compared to the control lambs, and they are increased in oxandrolone-treated lambs. Conclusion: Some improvement was observed in both the first order reaction rate constant and ejection fraction for the lamb treated with oxandrolone in our preliminary study.
