Change that is Wistar rat's biochemical value by aging was measured highest in 50 week because ALT, AST, BUN, CRN, T-bili., T-chol, TG, TP, ALB, A/G, P etc. increase according to 10, 30, 50 week, and observed improvement that is biochemical value than control group form of Dokhwaljihwang. Is considered by being effect that Dokhwaljihwangimprove living body function decline by aging by this result.
To determine the reason of individual variation of the effect of caffeine, the absorption and the disposition of caffeine were studied in caffeine sensitive and caffeine nonsensitive volunteers. And also to study the effect of obesity on caffeine pharmacokinetics, the caffeine disposition in the obese rat and in the lean rat were investigated respectively. In result the caffeine sensitive group showed a longer terminal half-life of caffeine(7.35$\pm$0.71 hr : 5.49$\pm$0.73 hr) and a larger AUC (55.42$\pm$9.09 $\mu\textrm{g}$.$ml^{-1}$.hr:44.0$\pm$7.81$\mu\textrm{g}$.$ml^{-1}$.hr) than that of caffeine non-sensitive group without statistical significance. The obese rat showed a longer terminal half-life (3.47 hr : 2.31 hr) and a larger AUC(35.3 $\mu\textrm{g}$.$ml^{-1}$.hr:26.97$\mu\textrm{g}$.$ml^{-1}$.hr) than that of the lean rat. But there was no correlation in the amount of daily caffeine consumption and obesity. In conclusion, we suggest that the individual variation of the effect of caffeine are being caused from the individual differences of caffeine susceptibility or tolerance rather than the differences of the genetic metabolic capacity or metabolic tolerance.
This study has been undertaken to examine the effect of 3-methylcholanthrene (3MC) on rat uterine growth and to understand the mechanism of action of 3MC in rat uterus. After diethylstilbesterol(DES) or tamoxifen(TAM) or 3MC or DES plus TAM or DES plus 3MC was administered into immature female rats, uterine weight over corn oil-treated uteri. 3MC treatment had no effect on uterine weight but, DES stimulated uterine weight was inhibited by 3MC concomitant tratment. While TAM alone treatment showed slight increase in uterine wieght, inhibited uterine growth simulated by DES when it was adiministrated with DES condirect binding assay with $[^3H]$ estradiol and the relative binding affinities of 3MC and TAM were estimated by competetion assy. Estradiol tumed out to have high affinity for rat uterine estrogen receptor (kd = 0.4 nM). The relative binding affinities of TAM and 3MC were 1% and 4.7% that of DES for rat uterine estrogen receptor, respectively. 3MC was shown to have similar affinity for eat uterine estrogen receptor to that of TAM. Effects of DES 3MC and TAM administration in vivo on rat uterine estrogen recptor level were examined. It was confirmed that the estrogen, DES and antiestrogen, TAM decreased estrogen receptor levels from rat ulterus and also 3MC decreased rat uterine estrogen receptor level when rats were treated with DES, TAM and 3MC in vivo. Data indicates that 3MC acts as an antiestrogen mediated through estrogen receptor system.
Morphogenesis of rat spleen was studied by light and electron microscope from the fetal stage till the newborn or adult stages. The results indicate as follows: at the 14th day of gestation rat spleen, as an early form, consists of intercellular spaces and mesenchymal cells. And at this stage the spleen is in a premature state, then it appears its adult condition in structures after the 7th postnatal day. Erythropoiesis is shown to be an active process in rat spleen beginning about the 18th day of gestation, and once established the process continues at least till the 7th postnatal day. At the 20th day of gestation, there are splenic nodules, trabeculae, venous sinus, and granular leucocytes such as neutrophils and basophils in rat spleen. Lymphocytes appeared to be well differentiated at the 7th postnatal day and were present till the adult stage. While degenerating erythrocytes are phagocytosed by macrophages. In conclusion, rat spleen started to be appeared from the 14th day of gestation and erythropoiesis in rat spleen was carried out for about 10 days between prenatal and postnatal stage. Erythrophagocytosis was accomplished by macrophages and it is suggested that the proper functions of rat spleen set off from the 7 th postnatal day when its structures are similar to the adult's.

In order to improve performance for the size of the rat-race ring coupler, the CCL is used for the realization as the delay line. As realizing lower coupling coefficient, the ratio of the size-reduction for the CCL is enhanced. The CCL is alternated with ${\lambda}_g/4$ of the rat-race ring, and optimized two CCLs are inserted for the size-reduction. the coupling coefficient is 0.2, and electrical lengths of each CCL are $28.2^{\circ}$ and $21.7^{\circ}$. Designed rat-race ring using the CCL has the size of $18.76{\times}20.45mm^2$ and the size-reduction ratio of fabricated rat-race ring using the CCL has 76.8%. Also, fabricated rat-race ring is measured the insertion loss of 3.20dB at the center frequency of 2.45GHz and the 20dB bandwidth is 24.04%. Differenced magnitude and phase between threw port and coupled port are measured 0.1dB and $177.4^{\circ}$, respectively. These performances are almost same compared with the conventional rat-race ring. Suggested application of the CCL can be used various devices and circuits for the size-reduction.

This study investigated changes of mechanical characteristics of the trabecular and cortical bone in the lumbar vertebrae of the ovariectomised (OVX) rat. In previous researches, there were many studies for morphology of osteoporotic bones based on Micro-Computed Tomography (Micro-CT). However, there were few studies for detecting and tracking changes of mechanical characteristics of the trabecular and cortical bone in the lumbar vertebrae of the OVX rat. For this study, the 4th lumbar of the OVX rat (female Sprague-Dawley) was utilized as a specimen. An OVX rat was scanned at week 0 (just before surgery), at week 4, and week 8 after surgery. Micro-finite element (${\mu}-FE$) analysis was used to investigate mechanical characteristics of the trabecular and cortical bone in the lumbar vertebrae for an OVX rat. When the OVX rat (at week 8) was compared with the OVX rat (at week 0), the structural modulus of cortical and trabecualr bone was decreased by 52% and 99%, respectively. This study showed the change of mechanical characteristics of cortical bone as well as trabecular bone of an OVX rat. Detecting and tracking changes of mechanical characteristics could greatly contribute to an experiment test for the trabecular and cortical bone in the lumbar vertebrae of an OVX rat by using In-vivo Micro-CT.
Rat liver LDH A-cDNA has been isolated from a .lambda.gt11-rat lover cDNA library and partially characterized. The size of the isolated rat liver LDH A-cDNA if shown to be 1.6Kb and restriction enzyme sites for the rat liver LDH A-cDNA are also mapped. 682-nucleotide sequence coding for 3'-end of rat liver LDH A-cDNA has been analyzed and compared to the nucleotide sequence of the same region of rat $C_6$-glioma cell LDH A-cDNA which has been cloned from the hormonally stimulated cell cultures. The result shows that 177 nucleotide sequences coding for the C-terminal 59-amino acids are identical but 505 nucleotide sequences of 3'-nontranslated region of the two LSH A-cDNA exhibit characteristic differences in thier nucleotide sequences. Computer analysis for the folding structures for 3'-end 400 nucleotide sequences of the two LDH A-cDNA shows a possibility implying that the two LDH A-mRNAs isolated from different tissues of rats may have different half life and therefore their translational efficiency may be different. It has been previously demonstrated that isoproterenol stimulated rat $C_6$ -glioma cell cultures produce LDH A-mRNA showing 2 to 3-fold longer half life in comparison to that of noninduced LHD A-mRNA. The result therefore support for the idea that hormonally stimulated rat $C_6$-glioma cells may produce LDH A-mRNA containing different nucleotide sequences at the 3'-end nontranslated region by which the hormonally induced LDH A-mRNA could have more stable secondary mRAN structure in comparison to that of noninduced LDH A-mRNA.
Functional and morphological characteristics of the exocrine pancreas in genetic model BB rat of insulin dependent diabetes medllitus(IDDM) were carried out. Wistar rat was used as control animal. Flow rate of pancreatic juice, output of amylase and protein, and plasma glucose and insulin levess were examined. Also light and ultrastructural characteristics of the exocrine pancreas were observed. Pancreatic flow rate, output of amylase and protein, and insulin level were lower;glucose level was higher comparing with those of the control Wistar rat. In Wistar rat, exocrine pancreas was typical light microscopically. Zymogen granules and cell organelles were well developed in fine structure. Cell size of the periinsular acini was larger, and number of zymogen granules were more than those of the teleinsular acini. Most acinar cells were dark cells which containe well-developed RER in their cytoplasm. On the other hand, some light cells which have the dilated RER cisterns were found. In BB rat exocrine pancreas, cell size of per-and tele-insular acini similar to that of Wistar rat. The number of light cells occupied 40-50% compairing with that of Wistar rat. Zymogen granules were lower in number than that of Wistar rat and divied into three types in morphological characteristics ; type I showing normal structure, type II showing the wide hallo and small electron dense core in center of the zymogen granule and type III not having the electron dense core in the zymogen granule. The present ratio of type I, type II and type III are less than 5%, 30-40% and more than 50%, respectively.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of size and permittivity on the specific absorption rate(SAR) values of rat brains during microwave exposure at mobile phone frequency bands. A finite difference time domain (FDTD) technique with perfect matching layer(PML) absorbing boundaries is used for this evaluation process. A color coded digital image of the Sprague Dawley(SD) rat based on magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) is used in FDTD calculation with appropriate permittivity values corresponding to different tissues for 3, 4, 7, and 10 week old rats. This study is comprised of three major parts. First, the rat model structure is scaled uniformly, i.e., the rat size is increased without change in permittivity. The simulated SAR values are compared with other experimental and numerical results. Second, the effect of permittivity on SAR values is examined by simulating the microwave exposure on rat brains with various permittivity values for a fixed rat size. Finally, the SAR distributions in depth, and the brain-averaged SAR and brain 1 voxel peak SAR values are computed during the microwave exposure on a rat model structure when both size and permittivity have varied corresponding to different ages ranging from 3 to 10 weeks. At 900 MHz, the simulation results show that the brain-averaged SAR values decreased by about 54 % for size variation from the 3 week to the 10 week-old rat model, while the SAR values decreased only by about 16 % for permittivity variation. It is found that the brain averaged SAR values decreased by about 63 % when the variations in size and permittivity are taken together. At 1,800 MHz, the brain-averaged SAR value is decreased by 200 % for size variation, 9.7 % for permittivity variation, and 207 % for both size and permittivity variations.
