This study was performed to investigate the bioconcentration of IBP, methidathion and piperophos. The BCFs(bioconcentration factor), depuration rate constants for three pesticides in zebrafish(Brachydanio rerio) were measured by OECD guideline 305. The concentration of test pesicides were one-hundredth and one-thousandth concentration of 96-hrs L $C_{50}$ in accordance with OECD guideline 305. The results obtained are summarized as follows: The average BCF values of IBP were 5.31(n=4) and 7.30(n=4) at one-hundredth and one-thousandth concentration of 96-hrs L $C_{50}$ . The average BCF values of methidathion were 8.72(n=4) and 11.25(n=4), the average BCF values of piperophos were 34.30(n=4) and 42.60(n=4). Depuration rate constants of IBP were 0.09( $h^{-1}$ ) and 0.08( $h^{-1}$ ), half-life of IBP were 7.70 and 8.66 at each tested concentration. The concentrations of IBP in zebrafish at low and high concentrations rapidly decreased after 12(0.243$\mu\textrm{g}$/g) and 12 hours(0.040$\mu\textrm{g}$/g). Depuration rate constants of methidathion were 0.40( $h^{-1}$ ), half-life of methidathion were 1.73 at one-hunderdth and of 96-hrs L $C_{50}$ , repectively. The concentrations of methidathion in zebrafish at high concentrations rapidly decreased after 6 hours(0.18 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g). Depuration rate constant of low concentration was no measured because methidathion in zebrafish was depurated in 6 hours. Depuration rate constants of piperophos sere 0.15( $h^{-1}$ ) and 0.44( $h^{-1}$ ), half-life of piperophos were 4.62 and 1.58 at each tested concentration. The concentrations of piperophos in zebrafish at los and high concentrations rapidly decreased after 12(0.26$\mu\textrm{g}$/g) and 6 hours(0.015 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g). It was suggested that high BCF of piperophos was due to high Kow(octanol-water partition coefficient). The possibility of bioconcenration was not likely to be high because of its $K_{DEP}$(depuration rate constant) in the evniroment. It was suggested that low BCF of methidathion showed lowest Kow as well as the most rapid $K_{DEP}$. Therefore, the possibility of bioconcentration was not occured in the enviroment. It was suggested that the BCF dtermined for IBP was lower than that of other pesticides due to high Sw(water solubility), show $K_{DEP}$. Therefore, IBP revealed little bioconcentration effect on in aquatic ecosystem.ystem.

In this study, to evaluate the mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced cement composites by strain rate, hydraulic rapid loading test system was developed. And compressive and tensile strength of the hooked steel fiber and polyamide fiber reinforced cement composite were evaluated. As a result, the compressive strength, strain capacity and elastic modulus were increased with increasing strain rate. The effect of compressive strength by type and volume fraction of fibers was not significant. The dynamic increase factor(DIF) of the compressive strength was higher than that of the CEB-FIP model code 2010 and showed a trend similar to that of ACI-349. The tensile strength and strain capacity were increased with increasing strain rate. The hooked steel fibers were drawn from the matrix. The tensile strength and strain capacity of hooked steel fiber reinforced cement composites were increased as the strain rate increased. The tensile strength and deformation capacity of the fiber reinforced cement composites were increased. And, hooked steel fibers were drawn from the matrix. On the other hand, because the bonding properties of polyamide fiber and matrix is large, polyamide fiber was cut-off with out pullout from matrix. The strain rate effect on the tensile properties of polyamide fiber reinforced cement composites was found to be strongly affected by the tensile strength of the fibers.
The electronic nose (e-nose) has been used in food industry and quality controls in plastic packaging. Recently it finds its applications in medical diagnosis, specifically on detection of diabetes, pulmonary or gastrointestinal problem, or infections by examining odors in the breath or tissues with its odor characterizing ability. Moreover, the use of portable e-nose enables the on-site measurements and analysis of vapors without extra gas-sampling units. This is expected to widen the application of the e-nose in various fields including point-of-care-test or e-health. In this study, a PDA-based portable e-nose was developed using micro-machined gas sensor array and miniaturized electronic interfaces. The rich capacities of the PDA in its computing power and various interfaces are expected to provide the rapid and application specific development of the diagnostic devices, and easy connection to other facilities through information technology (IT) infra. For performance verification of the developed portable e-nose system, Six different vapors were measured using the system. Seven different carbon-black polymer composites were used for the sensor array. The results showed the reproducibility of the measured data and the distinguishable patterns between the vapor species. Additionally, the application of two typical pattern recognition algorithms verified the possibility of the automatic vapor recognition from the portable measurements. These validated the portable e-nose based on PDA developed in this study.

This paper evaluates the mechanical properties and durability of cement matrix blended with mineral admixtures and ferronickel slag(FNS) powder which is an industrial b y-product during ferronickel smelting process. The hydration heat, pore structure, compressive strength, length change, rapid chloride penetration test(RCPT), and freezing and thawing resistance of ternary blended cement matrix were investigated and compared with ordinary portland cement matrix. The result showed that the compressive strength of ternary blended cement matrix using ferronickel slag powder and mineral mixture was low in strength compared to the reference concrete, but recovered to a certain extent by using alkali activator. Length change of cement mortar using FNS powder have shown less shrinkage occurs than the reference specimen. In addition, irrespective of using the alkali-activators, all ternary mix are indicative of the 'very low' range for chloride ion penetrability according to the ASTM C 1202, and the freeze-thaw resistance also showed excellent results.

With the rapid change of industry and the development of science and technology, more than 100,000 industrial chemicals are being used and 2,000 new materials are developed every year. Chemical products have had favorable influence on our daily life and contributed very much to the prosper of human culture. But some materials are inherently poisonous and dangerous. Korea ranks as the number 7 in world's chemical products market and the chemical sector is contributing to the economic revival through importing and exporting of the products. With the increasing domestic as well as international interests about REACH and GHS, the need for the effective and efficient chemical material management system is getting bigger and bigger. In this research, we compare the criteria in UN GHS and Safety Control of Dangerous Substances Act of Korea for the development of global standard test methods and the classification and labelling for the chemicals, and suggest an advancement plan for the introduction of the GHS in a building block approach. In addition, providing the harmonized information about chemical hazards is suggested for the elimination of international trade barriers for chemical industries.
This study has conducted to develop new gabion wall systems with vegetation base materials for stream bank stability and rapid rehabilitation. Vegetation base materials are primarily compounded with fine soil, organic composts and peat moss as plant fibers, a water retainer and a soil improver. Normally gabion wall systems resist the lateral earth pressures or stream power by their own weight. Therefore, fill material must have suitable weight, compressive strength and durability to resist the loading, as well as the effects of water and weathering. In this project, 100 to 200-mm clean, hard stones are basically specified, and about 50-mm rubbles are also used. Test application of new gabion wall system carried out in the stream bank of a small stream in the Gwangreung experimental forest, belonging to Korea Forest Research Institute (KFRI) in December 16th, 2006. As a result of the analysis of hydraulic stability of new gabion wall system, gabion wall system has highest threshold shear stress when the gabion wall covered by vegetation. New gabion wall system is highly resistant to sliding and overturning because safety coefficients exceed 1.5. As a result of term of slope stability analysis of new gabion wall system by Bishop and Fellenius methods, stability of stream bank was highly increased after the construction of gabion wall. Therefore, new gabion wall system is effective to stabilize unstable stream bank.
There has been much focus on the strong axis steel moment connections after the Northridge earthquake in 1994. However, research studieson the seismic behavior of weak axis moment connections could be hardly found despite the fact that these connection details have been frequently used as seismic details of MRF in Korea. Therefore, the objective of this research is to provide better knowledge on the seismic behavior of weak-axis steel moment connections, which can be widely applicable to many structures with similar characteristics. For this purpose, an experimental program was designed and performed with twotypes of weak-axis steel moment connections, namely the bracket type and WUF-B type, based on the survey of existing field data and literatures. Using the experimental results obtained from the quasi-static cyclic testing of these specimens, structural performances of the joints such as hysteretic curves, maximum strength capacities and the strain of reinforced bars were investigated. From the test results, the bracket-type connection was shown to have more than a 5% story drift capacity, compared with the WUF-B type connection's 4%. These specimens were also shown to have higher strength capacities than the nominal design strength. The bracket-type connection showed a slow strength degradation after maximum strength was researched. However, the WUF-B type connection showed a rapid strength degradation that caused brittle behavior.
The purpose of this study was to establish early diagnostic methods for the detection of Aujeszky's disease viral antigens and nucleic acid in nasal cells, and buffy coats from experimentally infected living pigs by a combination of immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization with digoxigenin(DIG)-labled probe and electron microscopy. Forty days old piglets were inoculated intranasally with $10^{7.0}TCID_{50}$ of Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV, NYJ-1-87 strain). The viral antigens and nucleic acid of ADV were detected in nasal cells, and buffy coat for 20 days after inoculation by immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization with DIG-labeled probe and electron microscopical method. The results were compared with conventional methods such as a porcine Aujeszky's disease serodiagnostic(PAD) kit, neutralization test(NT) and virus isolation. 1. The viral antigens, nucleic acids and capsids of ADV were detected in nasal cells, buffy coats from 3 days to 20 days after inoculation by immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization with DIG-labeled probe and electron microscopy, respectively. 2. When viral antigens were detected by the immunocytochemical technique, a diffuse brown deposit was observed in the nucleus and cytoplasm of nasal cells, buffy coats and PK-15 cells under a microscope. 3. DIG-labeled DNA probe was prepared by amplification of conserved sequence of recombinant ADV-gp50 clone with polymerase chain reacction. When ADV-DNA was detected by ISH with DIG-labeled probe, purplish blue pigmentation were observed in the nuclei and cytoplasms of ADV-infected cells under a microscope. Positive signals were observed in nasal cells and in the buffy coat and PK-15 cells at the first day after inoculation. 4. Where ADV-capsids were detected by transmission electron microscopical method, aggregation of capsids was observed in the nuclei and cytoplasms of nasal cells, buffy coats and PK-15 cells. The results suggested that these methods were considered as the highly sensitive and reliable tools for rapid and confirmative diagnosis of Aujeszky's disease in living pigs.
We evaluated the PCR assay and two commercialized PCR kits for the detection of mycoplasma in veterinary via live vaccines. The PCR assay could specifically detect all the tested Mycoplasma spp. and Acholeplasma spp., whereas two commercialized PCR kits did not. Also, the specificity of the PCR assay showed that 4 reference strains and 7 field isolates belonging to avian mycoplasma species could be all detected. The sensitivity of the PCR assay was determined using pure cultured Mycoplasma spp. and Acholeplasma spp. with a range of 1 to 100 colony forming units/ml in 9 CFR Mycoplasma broth. To test the availability of the PCR assay for veterinary live viral vaccines, A. laidlawii was artificially inoculated into the swine transmissible gastroenteritis-rota virus combined vaccine and canine parvovirus vaccine, respectively and the sensitivity of the PCR assay was similar with the result of cultured samples. In this study, the PCR assays could be used as rapid and sensitive methods for the detection of mycoplasma in veterinary live viral vaccines.
