BACKGROUND: Benzo(a)pyrene is a highly toxic substance which has been listed as a Group I carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. There have been numerous studies by researchers worldwide on benzo(a)pyrene. Soxhlet, ultrasound-assisted, and liquid-liquid extractions have been widely used for the analysis of benzo(a)pyrene. However these extraction methods have significant drawbacks, such as long extraction time and large amount of solvent usage. To overcome these disadvantages, we aimed to establish a rapid residual analysis of benzo(a)pyrene content in agricultural products and soil samples. METHODS AND RESULTS: A Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe (QuEChERS) method was used as the pretreatment procedure. For rapid residual analysis of benzo(a)pyrene, a modified QuEChERS method were used, and the best codition was demonstrated after various performing instrument analysis. The extraction efficiency of this method was also compared with Soxhlet extraction, the current benzo(a)pyrene extracting method. Although both methods showed high recovery rates, the rapid residual analysis method markedly reduced both the measurement time and solvent usage by approximately 97% and 96%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Based on these results, we suggest the rapid residual analysis method established through this study, faster and more efficient analysis of residual benzo(a)pyrene in major agricultural products such as rice, green and red chili peppers and also soil samples.
Interest in remanufacturing of part has significantly increased to reduce used material and energy together. The directed energy deposition (DED) process has widely applied to remanufacturing of the part. An excessive residual stress takes place in the vicinity of the deposited region by the DED process due to rapid heating and rapid cooling (RHRC) phenomenon. The excessive residual stress decreases the reliability of the remanufactured part. Therefore, thermo-mechanical analysis for the remanufacturing of the part is needed to investigate heat transfer and residual stress characteristics in the vicinity of the deposited region. The thermo-mechanical analysis of a large volume deposition is significantly difficult to perform due to the requirement of a long computation time and a large computer memory. The goal of this paper is to investigate thermo-mechanical characteristics for remanufacturing of the ATC part using a DED process. The methodology of the thermo-mechanical analysis for a large volume deposition is proposed. From the results of analysis, heat transfer and residual stress characteristics during deposition and cooling stages are investigated. In addition, the proper deposition strategy from the viewpoint of the residual stress is discussed.

Welding process generates distortion and residual stress in the weldment due to rapid heating and cooling. Welding distortion and residual stress in the welded structure result in many troubles such as dimensional inaccuracies in assembling and safety problem during service. The accurate prediction of welding residual stress is thus very important to improve the quality of weldment and find the way to reduce itself. This paper presents the simulation of welding-induced residual stress analysis to examine the cause of cracking in the SUS-overlay welding specimen at FPSO Moon Pool structure.

This paper suggests new analysis method to predict welding residual stress by considering solid phase transformation during welding process. Using the method, analysis is performed for medium and low carbon steel. The analysis result for medium carbon steel reveals that case considering phase transformation has compressive residual stress in contrast with the case neglecting phase transformation because of martensite formation. However, for the case of low carbon steel, residual stress shows little difference between the case considering phase transformation and the other case, because it has small transformation strain and recovers rapidly stress after phase transformation.
Most of ferrous b.c.c weld materials may experience martensitic transformation during rapid cooling after welding. It is well known that volume expansion due to the phase transformation could influence on the relaxation of welding residual stress. To apply this effect practically, it is a prerequisite to establish a numerical model which is able to estimate the effect of phase transformation on residual stress relaxation quantitatively. For this purpose, the analysis is carried out in two regions. i.e., heating and cooling, because the variation of material properties following a phase transformation in cooling is different in comparison with the case in heating, even at the same temperature. The variation of material properties following phase transformation is considered by the adjustment of specific heat and thermal expansion coefficient, and the distribution of residual stress in analysis is compared with that of experiment by previous study. consequently, in this study, simplified numerical procedures considering phase transformation, which based on a commercial finite element package was established through comparing with the experimental data of residual stress distribution by other researcher. To consider the phase transformation effect on residual stress relaxation, the transition of mechanical and thermal property such as thermal expansion coefficient and specific heat capacity was found by try and error method in this analysis.
Multipass welds of the 316L stainless steel have been widely employed in the pipes of Liquid Metal Reactor. Owing to localized heating and subsequent rapid cooling by the welding process, the residual stress arises in the weld of the pipe. In this study, the residual stresses in the 316L stainless steel pipe welds were calculated by the finite element method using ANSYS code. Also, the residual stresses both on the surface and in the interior of the thickness were measured by HRPD(High Resolution Powder Diffractometer) instrumented in HANARO Reactor. The experimental data and the calculated results were compared and the characteristics of the distribution of the residual stress discussed.

Complicated residual stress distributions occur in the vicinity of a deposited region via directed energy deposition (DED) process owing to the rapid heating and cooling cycle of the deposited region and the substrate. The residual stress can cause defects and premature failure in the vicinity of the deposited region. Several heat treatment technologies have been extensively researched and applied on the part deposited by the DED process to relieve the residual stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the residual stress characteristics of a specimen fabricated by DED and a quenching process using thermomechanical analyses. A coupled thermomechanical analysis technique was adopted to predict the residual stress distribution in the vicinity of the deposited region subsequent to the quenching step. The results of the finite element (FE) analyses for the deposition and the cooling measures show that the residual stress in the vicinity of the deposited region significantly increases after the completion of the elastic recovery. The results of the FE analyses for the heating and quenching stages further indicate that the residual stress in the vicinity of the deposited region remarkably increases at the initial stage of quenching. In addition, it is observed that the residual stress for quenching is lesser than that after the elastic recovery, irrespective of the deposited material.
Generally, rapid cure reaction of LED encapsulation silicone resin causes serious defects in cured resin products such as warpage, residual bubbles, and reduced wettablility. In order to prevent residual bubbles in silicone resin, the step cure process was examined in the present paper. Three kinds of step cure processes were applied, and bubble-free phenomenon was observed. Most of the bubbles were removed under $70^{\circ}C$, the minimum temperature for activating cure reaction. In addition, degree of cure(DOC) and temperature distribution were predicted by using FEM analysis of heat transfer. It was concluded that maintaining cure temperature which provide a DOC under 0.5~0.6 effectively reduces residual bubbles.
