  • Range walk has been a major problem in achieving correct Doppler processing. This frequently occurs when range variation is severe just like in a bistatic radar or in high speed target scenario. This paper presents a range walk compensated range-Doppler processing algorithm applicable to the bistatic radar. In order for the compensation, a range-domain interpolation is applied for range compressed signal so that Doppler processing is performed along the evenly time-spaced range bins that contain target returns. Under a bistatic radar scenario, the proposed algorithm including a range domain pulse compression is mathematically described. Finally, the validity of the algorithm is demonstrated by simulation results showing the superiority of a SCDP(Squint Cross-range Doppler Processing) over an uncompensated Doppler processing.

  • This paper concerns methods for ${\mu}$-wave imaging. The image reconstruction of an object by range-doppler preceding using the X-Band Linear-FM signal is presented from tile simulated data. The high degree of range resolution is achived using large signal band width and cross-range resolution is obtained by doppler processing.

  • The ultrasound Doppler effect is used for measuring the velocity of the bloodflow in an artry. Because of the range information, the pulsed doppler system is most commonly used. In this paper, we propose a new pulsed doppler system which uses a quadrature sampling method in R.F. range in order to detect the bloodflow direction and to simplify the compexity of hardware. The pulsed doppler system using quadrature sampling method in R.F. range eliminates In-phase, Quadrature phase channel balancing problem at demodulator. In addition, the improved pulsed Doppler system shows the possibility of serial processing.

  • This paper presents a detection and ranging algorithm for a high-speed targets in the high PRF radar. We show, unlike the conventional methods, it firstly estimates Doppler frequency with a quasi-periodic pulse train prior to range processing. The estimated Doppler frequency can compensate the phase error enbeded in the received signal, which makes the signal integrated coherently in the range direction and localizes the target's signiture in low SNR. We present the derivation of the proposed algorithm and discuss how the system parameters such as the range/Doppler sampling condition, processing time and Doppler estimation error affect the performance of the proposed algorithm, which is verified by simulations.

  • Accurate ranging is one of the key factors in the test and evaluation process of underwater vehicles. In particular, when estimating range using Time of Arrival (ToA) values, signals such as Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM), a chirp signal, are highly applicable due to their correlated nature. However, in a Doppler shift environment with mobility, measurement errors may occur due to the range-Doppler coupling effect. In this paper, we propose a signal that compensates for the distance-Doppler coupling effect to reduce the measurement error of the arrival time value. The proposed signal is constructed by superimposing two types of LFM signals, and the range-Doppler coupling effect can be minimized. Through simulations, it is confirmed that the proposed signal is a way to compensate for the distance-Doppler coupling effect in the distance estimation of underwater mobile bodies, reducing the measurement error of the arrival time value.

  • The classical image reconstruction for stripmap-mode Synthetic Aperture Radar is the Range-Doppler algorithm. When the spotlight-mode SAR system was envisioned, Range-Doppler algorithm turned out to fail rapidly in this SAR imaging modality. Thus, what is referred to as Polar format algorithm, which is based on the Plane wave approximation, was introduced for imaging from spotlight-mode SAR raw- data. In this paper, we have studied for the raw data processing schemes in the spotlight-mode Synthetic Aperture Radar. We apply the Wavefront Reconstruction scheme that does not utilize the approximation in spotlight-mode SAR imaging modelity, and compare the performance of target imaging with the Polar format inversion scheme.

  • The effects of noise and doppler for low orbit satellite range measurement using tone method are represented in this paper. Also the optimal noise bandwidth of range signal detection circuit which is used for range measurement system of KOMPSAT is proposed. Based on the effects of satellite orbit parameters via the deduction of dynamic motion characteristics of low orbit satellite and signal to noise spectral density of range measurement signal, the effects of noise and doppler for range measurement system are analyzed. The effect of satellite link noise is decreased, but the effect for doppler is increased as the PLL noise bandwidth of range signal detection circuit is increased. The validation of analyzed effect is verified via comparison of measurement results of KOMPSAT's range measurement system and simulation results in environments of low orbit satellite.

  • Based on the analyses of satellite range measurement, the optimal operation for satellite range measurement of KOMPSAT II, which operates in the low-earth orbit, was proposed in this paper. The orbital motion of the satellite was analyzed in viewpoints of radial velocity, acceleration and speed of acceleration. Correspondingly the effects for satellite ranging signal due to satellite motion were analyzed in viewpoints of doppler phenomena, which are doppler frequency, doppler rate and speed of doppler rate. The accuracy and ambiguity probability of the satellite range measurement were quantitatively analyzed under various circumstances. The optimal operation parameters for satellite range measurement were also analyzed based on the analyzed results. The analyzed results in this paper can be utilized in design of small-sized ground station for satellite range measurement.

  • In this paper, we described the model of noise, target for tracking radar and range tracking, angle tracking, and Doppler frequency tracking for target acquisition and tracking. Target signal as well as the noise signal is modeled as random process varying with elapsed time. This paper addresses three areas of radar target tracking: range tracking, angle tracking, and Doppler frequency tracking. In general, range tracking is prerequisite to and inherent in both angle and Doppler frequency tracking systems. First, we introduced the several range tracking and described techniques for achieving range tracking. Second, we described the radar angle tracking techniques including conical scan, sequential lobing, and monopulse. Finally, we presented concepts and techniques for Doppler frequency tracking for several radar types.
