  • Accurate sentiment classification is an important research topic in sentiment analysis. This study suggests an efficient classification method of Korean sentiment using word2vec and ensemble methods which have been recently studied variously. For the 200,000 Korean movie review texts, we generate a POS-based BOW feature and a feature using word2vec, and integrated features of two feature representation. We used a single classifier of Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Naive Bayes, and Support Vector Machine and an ensemble classifier of Adaptive Boost, Bagging, Gradient Boosting, and Random Forest for sentiment classification. As a result of this study, the integrated feature representation composed of BOW feature including adjective and adverb and word2vec feature showed the highest sentiment classification accuracy. Empirical results show that SVM, a single classifier, has the highest performance but ensemble classifiers show similar or slightly lower performance than the single classifier.

  • In this paper, we proposed the object classification method using genetic and dynamic random forest consisting of optimal combination of unit tree. The random forest can ensure good generalization performance in combination of large amount of trees by assigning the randomization to the training samples and feature selection, etc. allocated to the decision tree as an ensemble classification model which combines with the unit decision tree based on the bagging. However, the random forest is composed of unit trees randomly, so it can show the excellent classification performance only when the sufficient amounts of trees are combined. There is no quantitative measurement method for the number of trees, and there is no choice but to repeat random tree structure continuously. The proposed algorithm is composed of random forest with a combination of optimal tree while maintaining the generalization performance of random forest. To achieve this, the problem of improving the classification performance was assigned to the optimization problem which found the optimal tree combination. For this end, the genetic algorithm methodology was applied. As a result of experiment, we had found out that the proposed algorithm could improve about 3~5% of classification performance in specific cases like common database and self infrared database compare with the existing random forest. In addition, we had shown that the optimal tree combination was decided at 55~60% level from the maximum trees.

  • This article suggests the machine learning model, i.e., classifier, for predicting the production quality of free-machining 303-series stainless steel(STS303) small rolling wire rods according to the operating condition of the manufacturing process. For the development of the classifier, manufacturing data for 37 operating variables were collected from the manufacturing execution system(MES) of Company S, and the 12 types of derived variables were generated based on literature review and interviews with field experts. This research was performed with data preprocessing, exploratory data analysis, feature selection, machine learning modeling, and the evaluation of alternative models. In the preprocessing stage, missing values and outliers are removed, and oversampling using SMOTE(Synthetic oversampling technique) to resolve data imbalance. Features are selected by variable importance of LASSO(Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator) regression, extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost), and random forest models. Finally, logistic regression, support vector machine(SVM), random forest, and XGBoost are developed as a classifier to predict the adequate or defective products with new operating conditions. The optimal hyper-parameters for each model are investigated by the grid search and random search methods based on k-fold cross-validation. As a result of the experiment, XGBoost showed relatively high predictive performance compared to other models with an accuracy of 0.9929, specificity of 0.9372, F1-score of 0.9963, and logarithmic loss of 0.0209. The classifier developed in this study is expected to improve productivity by enabling effective management of the manufacturing process for the STS303 small rolling wire rods.

  • This paper presented a method for random forest based the arrhythmia classification using both heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) features. We analyzed the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database which contains half-hour ECG recorded from 48 subjects. This study included not only the linear features but also non-linear features for the improvement of classification performance. We classified abnormal ECG using mean_NN (mean of heart rate), SD1/SD2 (geometrical feature of poincare HRV plot), SE (spectral entropy), pNN100 (percentage of a heart rate longer than 100 ms) affecting accurate classification among combined of linear and nonlinear features. We compared our proposed method with Neural Networks to evaluate the accuracy of the algorithm. When we used the features extracted from the HRV as an input variable for classifier, random forest used only the most contributed variable for classification unlike the neural networks. The characteristics of random forest enable the dimensionality reduction of the input variables, increase a efficiency of classifier and can be obtained faster, 11.1% higher accuracy than the neural networks.

  • As smart environment is spread out in our living environments, the needs of an approach related to Human Computer Interaction(HCI) is increases. One of them is head pose estimation. it related to gaze direction estimation, since head has a close relationship to eyes by the body structure. It's a key factor in identifying person's intention or the target of interest, hence it is an essential research in HCI. In this paper, we propose an approach for head pose estimation with pre-defined several directions by random forest classifier. We use canny edge detector to extract feature of the different facial image which is obtained between input image and averaged frontal facial image for extraction of rotation information of input image. From that, we obtain the binary edge image, and make two accumulated histograms which are obtained by counting the number of pixel which has non-zero value along each of the axes. This two accumulated histograms are used to feature of the facial image. We use CAS-PEAL-R1 Dataset for training and testing to random forest classifier, and obtained 80.6% accuracy.

  • The ship type identification of the surrounding ship is important information for navigators and VTS officers since they can estimate the maneuverability and near-future route of the ships. However, it is more than frequent that the information is not provided due to transmission trouble and seafarers' unfamiliarity with AIS. Thus, this study suggests predicting ship types through the Random Forest classifier after preparing a training and test dataset that contains ship features and types. The AIS data for Ulsan coast in 2018 was used for this study. The method may provide the effect that many navigators and VTS officers discuss and share the experience of predicting ship types.

  • In this study, experiments on the improvement of the emotion classification, analysis and accuracy of EEG data were proceeded, which applied DEAP (a Database for Emotion Analysis using Physiological signals) dataset. In the experiment, total 32 of EEG channel data measured from 32 of subjects were applied. In pre-processing step, 256Hz sampling tasks of the EEG data were conducted, each wave range of the frequency (Hz); Theta, Slow-alpha, Alpha, Beta and Gamma were then extracted by using Finite Impulse Response Filter. After the extracted data were classified through Time-frequency transform, the data were purified through Independent Component Analysis to delete artifacts. The purified data were converted into CSV file format in order to conduct experiments of Machine learning algorithm and Arousal-Valence plane was used in the criteria of the emotion classification. The emotions were categorized into three-sections; 'Positive', 'Negative' and 'Neutral' meaning the tranquil (neutral) emotional condition. Data of 'Neutral' condition were classified by using Cz(Central zero) channel configured as Reference channel. To enhance the accuracy ratio, the experiment was performed by applying the attributes selected by ASC(Attribute Selected Classifier). In "Arousal" sector, the accuracy of this study's experiments was higher at "32.48%" than Koelstra's results. And the result of ASC showed higher accuracy at "8.13%" compare to the Liu's results in "Valence". In the experiment of Random Forest Classifier adapting ASC to improve accuracy, the higher accuracy rate at "2.68%" was confirmed than Total mean as the criterion compare to the existing researches.

  • Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy is a representative complication of diabetic patients and is known to be a major cause of impaired vision and blindness. There has been ongoing research on automatic detection of diabetic retinopathy, however, there is also a growing need for research on an automatic severity classification system. This study proposes an automatic detection system for pathological symptoms of diabetic retinopathy such as microaneurysms, retinal hemorrhage, and hard exudate by applying the Faster R-CNN technique. An automatic severity classification system was devised by training and testing a Random Forest classifier based on the data obtained through preprocessing of detected features. An experiment of classifying 228 test fundus images with the proposed classification system showed 97.8% accuracy.

  • Harvest forecasting is the great demand of multiple aspects like temperature, rain, environment, and their relations. The existing study investigates the climate conditions and aids the cultivators to know the harvest yields before planting in farms. The proposed study uses federated learning. In addition, the additional widespread techniques such as bagging classifier, extra tees classifier, linear discriminant analysis classifier, quadratic discriminant analysis classifier, stochastic gradient boosting classifier, blending models, random forest regressor, and AdaBoost are utilized together. These presented nine algorithms achieved exemplary satisfactory accuracies. The powerful contributions of proposed algorithms can create exact harvest forecasting. Ultimately, we intend to compare our study with the earlier research's results.

  • The accurate prediction of box office in the early stage is crucial for film industry to make better managerial decision. With aims to improve the prediction performance, the purpose of this paper is to evaluate the use of machine learning methods. We tested both classification and regression based methods including k-NN, SVM and Random Forest. We first evaluate input variables, which show that reputation-related information generated during the first two-week period after release is significant. Prediction test results show that regression based methods provides lower prediction error, and Random Forest particularly outperforms other machine learning methods. Regression based method has better prediction power when films have small box office earnings. On the other hand, classification based method works better for predicting large box office earnings.
