Hypersonic wind tunnel test of the rectangular variable geometry intake is performed. For realization of a Precooled turbojet engine, development of a hypersonic ramjet engine is planned. To investigate performance of the intake of the hypersonic ramjet engine, wind tunnel test is done with freestream Mach number of 5.1. The total pressure recovery was 18 % with 12.9 % of ramp bleed. Several reasons for low total pressure recovery are shown. Supersonic internal compression is not enough. Then, the throat Mach number is high (M2.61) and total pressure losses at the terminal shock is large. Supersonic flow at the throat and position of the terminal shock is sensitive to a difference of the second ramp's throat height and the third ramp's throat height. Flow separations at the second ramp's trailing edge and the third ramp's leading edge are seen those could result in the trigger of unstart. The seal mechanism between the ramps and the sidewalls is important.
A wind tunnel test was conducted that measured surface fluctuating pressures aft of a ramp at transonic speeds. Dynamic pressure test data was used to perform a study to determine best locations for streamwise sensor pairs for shocked and unshocked runs based on minimizing the error in root-mean-square acceleration response of the panel. For unshocked conditions, the upstream sensor is best placed at least 6.5 ramp heights downstream of the ramp, and the downstream sensor should be within 2 ramp heights from the upstream sensor. For shocked conditions, the upstream sensor should be between 1 and 7 ramp heights downstream of the shock, with the downstream sensor 2 to 3 ramp heights of the upstream sensor. The shock was found to prevent the passage coherent flow structures; therefore, it may be desired to use the shock to define the boundary of subzones for the purpose of loads definition. These recommendations should be generally applicable to a range of expansion corner geometries in transonic flow provided similar flow structures exist. The recommendations for shocked runs is more limited, relying on data from a single dataset with the shock located near the forward end of the region of interest.

The tunnel can be planned to connect to underground roadway and surface road. The large tunnel and branch section are made when the ramp tunnel access to the main tunnel. In the branch section, stress concentration can be assigned and it can be very important for the stability of the tunnel. This study assessed the behavior of rock pillar in double deck tunnel diverging area by using a two dimensional numerical analysis. This study evaluated different safety factors according to pillar width and the ramp tunnel position in branch. By the assessment of the strength-stress ratio, tunnel pillar width is suggested in order to secure the safety factor 1.5.
Characterization of wind flows over a complex terrain, especially mountain-gorge terrain (referred to as the very complex terrain with rolling mountains and deep narrow gorges), is an important issue for design and operation of long-span bridges constructed in this area. In both wind tunnel testing and numerical simulation, a transition section is often used to connect the wind tunnel floor or computational domain bottom and the boundary top of the terrain model in order to generate a smooth flow transition over the edge of the terrain model. Although the transition section plays an important role in simulation of wind field over complex terrain, an appropriate shape needs investigation. In this study, two principles for selecting an appropriate shape of boundary transition section were proposed, and a theoretical curve serving for the mountain-gorge terrain model was derived based on potential flow theory around a circular cylinder. Then a two-dimensional (2-D) simulation was used to compare the flow transition performance between the proposed curved transition section and the traditional ramp transition section in a wind tunnel. Furthermore, the wind velocity field induced by the curved transition section with an equivalent slope of $30^{\circ}$ was investigated in detail, and a parameter called the 'velocity stability factor' was defined; an analytical model for predicting the velocity stability factor was also proposed. The results show that the proposed curved transition section has a better flow transition performance compared with the traditional ramp transition section. The proposed analytical model can also adequately predict the velocity stability factor of the wind field.

Configuration design, analysis, and wind tunnel test of a vane-type multi-function air data probe (MFP) was described. First, numerical analysis was conducted for the initial configuration of the MFP in order to investigate aerodynamic characteristics. Then, the design was modified to improve static and dynamic stability for better response characteristics. The modified configuration design was verified through wind tunnel tests. The test results are also used to verify the accuracy of the analytical method. The analytically estimated aerodynamic damping provided by the Navier-Stokes equation solver correlated well with the wind tunnel test results. According to the calculation, the damping coefficient estimated from ramp motion analysis yielded a better correlation with the wind tunnel test than pitch oscillation analysis.

Test research on Infra-Red Thermography(IRT) technique in a supersonic wind tunnel has been conducted. Inadvertent technical difficulties and their solutions associated with the technique in running of the facility were examined. Two flow conditions at Mach number of 3 and 4 were considered. A double compression ramp model, that replicates realistic high-speed vehicle configuration, was used as test model. The present IR data were compared with shadowgraph visualization images and laminar computational fluid dynamics(CFD) results. It has been shown that the IRT technique can be used in quantifying various fluid dynamic features such as flow transition, separation and three-dimensional phenomena around the double compression ramp model.
In this study, the general solution of heat balance equation including conductive heat loss were suggested and were determined the constants with the results of experiment in hot tunnel in order to derive the general equation for the response time and to investigate the response time index which represent the characteristics of response of sprinkler head in actual fires. Two types of test were considered, the plunge test, in which the air temperature is represented by a step function, and the ramp test, in which the air temperature increases at a constant rate. As a result, simple equations were derived, which can be predicted the response time for the ramp type fire with the rate of temperature rise and gas velocity, for the plunge type fire with temperature and gas velocity. Also other useful data, such as the effective temperature, time constant, response time index and conduction parameter were obtained.
If an underground research facility for the validation of disposal concept is constructed in KAERI, it is expected to have a thick weathered zone and varying surface topology. In this study, the influence of different geological conditions, tunnel slope, tunnel size, and sequential excavation is investigated by 3D mechanical analysis using FLAC3D. Around the tunnel, it is not expected to develop any plastic zone and the maximum stress might be as high as 5 ㎫. The maximum compressive stress will be developed at about 20 m to e dead end of the tunnel. There is no difference on stress and displacement distributions between the cases with and without sequential excavation. It is expected to have stress release in the roof and floor after the excavation of the tunnel. There is no significant influence of weathered zone size, tunnel size, and tunnel slope on the stress and displacement distributions. The modeling for the intersection shows the minimum factor of safety is above 3, when the in situ stress ratio K is 3. From the study, it was possible to demonstrate that the small scale disposal research tunnel in KAERI will be mechanically stable.

Even though driving behaviors in underground roads can be significantly different from ground roads, existing underground roads follow the design guidelines of ground roads. In this context, this study investigates the driving behaviors of the exit-ramp terminal of urban underground roads using a driving simulator. Virtual driving experiments were performed by analyzing scenarios between the underground and ground road environments. The experiments' driving behavior data for each geometry section are compared and validated through a statistical significance test. This test showed that the speed in the underground road environment is relatively low, and the LPM tends to move away from the adjacent tunnel wall. Based on these findings, this study suggests implications and feasible solutions for improving driver's safety in the exit-ramp terminal of the underground roads.
In this study, response time index(RTI) of standard and quick response type sprinkler head are measured and compared through ramp and plunge test in heated wind tunnel. Also discharge rate and water distribution, actual delivered density(ADD), fire test with wood cribs are performed to compare the fire suppression capability and the operation time and temperature between standard and quick response type sprinkler head.
