This paper presents the RAKE receiver over a multipath fading channel. This interference between the propagation paths in a multipath fading causes a serious degradation in the mobile communication environment. In order to derive the path interference and reduce the fading effect, the RAKE receiver is used. As a result, the RAKE receiver gives a better performance than the DS / SS receiver over a multipath fading channel.

The average bit error rate (BER) performance of 2D-RAKE receiver, operating in a correlated Nakagami fading channel, is analyzed. The analysis assumes correlated fading between the array elements with identical fading parameters but with unbalanced average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). And independent but non-identically distributed frequency-selective fading channel with different fading parameters is assumed. The analyses show that fading correlation, delay profile, average SNR distribution, and fading parameters of combined branches affect the overall performance of 2D-RAKE receiver.

In this paper, we develop space-time(ST) Rake receivers for Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access(TD-SCDMA) base stations(BS). The beamforming of BS transforms the uplink MIMO channel space into many sub-sectors' channels to be nearly orthogonal, thus, well established 1-D Rake technology can be used to TD-SCDMA base station to construct ST Rake, which simplified the system's implementation as well as enlarged users' capacity by the beamforming. The construction and capacity of MIMO sub-sectors by multi-beamforming have been presented. The proposed ST Rake algorithm include the multi-beamforming algorithm for MIMO sub-sectors and classical 1-D Rake algorithm. The calculating formulas for interference plus noise ratio(SINR) and bit error rate(BER) have been derived. Simulations verify that the proposed ST Rake receiver for BS is effective, and the BS systems can get higher system capacity and can be of better performance than presented TD-SCDMA systems.

In this paper, the optimum maximum-likelihood rake receiver for impulsive, fading channel is derived, and a sub-optimun rake receiver with reduced complexity is obtained for practical purposes. Numerical results show that, when the noise is impulsive, the rake receivers designed for impulsive noise offer performance improvement over those optimized for Gaussian environment. It is also observed that, as the number of fingers increases, the performance of the rake receivers designed for impulsive environment improves while the rake receiver optimized for Gaussian environment experiences performance degradation in impulsive environment.

In the underwater acoustic communication channels, a multipath reflection becomes the cause of obstacle. To solve this problem, a rake receiver has been required for which one could take the time diversity. However, there is a concern about using incorrect path to recover signals with a high weighting value as underwater acoustic communication channels have severe time-variant property. In order to prevent these problem, a rake receiver is proposed which is based on BER(bit error rate) train sequence duration. The performance is evaluated through lake trials; there are three methods that are a proposed rake receiver, a conventional rake receiver, and a non-rake receiver. As a result, the number of bit errors in the proposed rake receiver, that of bit errors in the conventional rake receiver, and that of bit errors in the non-rake receiver is 8, 45, and 72, respectively.

This paper presents the CDMA system using the RAKE receiver over a multipath fading channel and in multi-user environments. The interference between the propagation paths in a multipath fading causes a serious degradation in the mobile communication environment. In order to derive the path inteference and reduce the fading effect, the RAKE receiver is used. In a computer simulation, the path number of a fading channel and the branch number of the RAKE receiver are modified. As a result, the CDMA system using the RAKE receiver gives a better performance than the conventional CDMA system over a multipath fading channel and in multi-user environments.

In this paper, we analyze the performance of UWB(Ultra-WideBand) communication system employing Bi-phase modulation and RAKE Receiver under the MAI(Multiple Access Interference) and the OSI(Other System Interference) environment. Using the multi-path channel model recommended by IEEE P802.15.TG3a, the performance degradation Is described with the number of users, the number of RAKE fingers and training sequences. To meet BER 10e-4 for 20 users at the same time, the number of RAKE fingers are proposed from 3 to 32. And the number of training sequences are limited less than 8 to keep the channel estimation error within 3dB

For the sake of the potential ability of overcoming interference in TD-SCDMA(time division-synchronous code division multiple access) systems, pilot signal is adopted, but the presented TD-SCDMA protocol has not considered the Rake technique for their mobile terminals. This paper developed a RAKE receiver algorithm and an implementation circuit, which make use of the pilot signal in the burst structure of the TD-SCDMA base station to estimate main channel parameter(channel delays) in the downlink of TD-SCDMA wireless network. The algorithm can reduce multipath interference for the mobile units in multiusers' case. Theoretic performance analysis presented in the paper and computer simulations show that there is a range of BER for Rake receiver and confirm that the proposed RAKE receiver algorithm achieved a better performance under multipath fading propagation and multiusers conditions.

In this paper, we proposed the new structure of the Rake Finger using Walsh Switch, the shared accumulator, and the pipeline FWHT(Fast Walsh Hadamard Transform) algorithm for reducing the signal processing complexity resulting from the increase of the number of data correlators. The function simulation of the proposed architecture is performed by Synopsys tool and the timing simulation is performed by Compass tool. The number of computational operation in the proposed data correlators is 160 additions and the conventional ones is 512 additions when the number of walsh code channels is 4. As a result, it is reduced about 3.2 times other than the number of computational operation of the conventional ones. Also, the result shows that the data processing time of the proposed Rake Finger architecture is 90,496[ns] and the conventional ones is 110,696[ns]. It is 18.3% faster than the data processing time of the conventional Rake Finger architecture.
This paper presents a Doppler shift estimation method and signal processing schemes for Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) transmission to overcome the Doppler shift due to the moving of the underwater communication unit. The proposed method estimates a Doppler shift via 2 step procedures using the preamble with the two 64-length Frank sequences which has a good self-correlation characteristic and is insensitive to the Doppler shift. Furthermore, a packet of DSSS underwater mobile communication and a RAKE receiver are designed using the proposed Doppler shift estimation method. Due to the modulation scheme of the designed DSSS underwater mobile communication using Differential-Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (DQPSK) for the data symbol transmission, the RAKE receiver dose not need a phase tracking and easily makes coherent signals among the combining RAKE branches. The designed RAKE receiving scheme including the proposed Doppler shift estimation method successfully decides information data using the DSSS signal transmitted from the pseudo-moving transmitter with velocity upto about 17.5 m/s.
