Vu Gia - Thu Bon basin is located in central Vietnam between Truong Son mountain range on the border with Lao in the west and the East Sea in the east. The basin occupies about 10,350 km2 or roughly 90% of the Quang Nam Province and includes Da Nang, a very large city with about 876,000 inhabitants. Total annual rainfall ranges from about 2,000 mm in central and downstream areas to more than 4,000 mm in southern mountainous areas. Rainfall during the monsoon season accounts for 65 to 80% of total annual rainfall. The highest amount of rainfall occurs in October and November which accounts for 40 to 50% of the annual rainfall. Rainfall in the dry season represents about 20 to 35% of the total annual rainfall. The low rainfall season usually occurs from February to April, accounting for only 3 to 5% of the total annual rainfall. The mean annual flow volume in the basin is $19.1{\times}109m 3$. Similar to the distribution of rainfall, annual flows are distinguished by two distinct seasons (the flood season and the low-flow season). The flood season commonly starts in the mid-September and ends in early January. Flows during the flood season account for 62 to 69% of the total annual water volume, while flows in the dry season comprise 22 to 38% of total annual run-off. The water volume gauged in November, the highest flow month, accounts for 26 to 31% of the total annual run-off while the driest period is April with flows of 2 to 3% of the total annual run-off. There are some hydropower projects in the Vu Gia - Thu Bon basin as the cascade of Song Bung 2, Song Bung 4, and Song Bung 5, the A Vuong project currently under construction, the Dak Mi 1 and Dak Mi 4 projects on the Khai tributary, and the Song Con project on the Con River. Both the Khai tributary and the Song Con join the Bung River downstream of SB5, although the Dak Mi 4 project involves an inter-basin diversion to Thu Bon. Much attention has recently been focused on the effects that climate variability and human activities have had on runoff. In this study, data from the Vu Gia - Thu Bon River Basin in the central of Viet Nam were analyzed to investigate changes in annual runoff during the period of 1977-2010. The nonparametric Mann-Kendall test and the Mann-Kendall-Sneyers test were used to identify trend and step change point in the annual runoff. It was found that the basin had a significant increasing trend in annual runoff. The hydrologic sensitivity analysis method was employed to evaluate the effects of climate variability and human activities on mean annual runoff for the human-induced period based on precipitation and potential evapotranspiration. This study quantitatively distinguishes the effects between climate variability and human activities on runoff, which can do duty for a reference for regional water resources assessment and management.

The NRCS-CN method is generally applied for estimating effective rainfalls in practice, in which the basin-averaged CN is normally used. In order to develop a more appropriate method for estimating effective rainfalls in a basin, this study compared estimated effective rainfalls from two distinct methods with the observed direct runoff. The first method is to estimate the basin-representative effective rainfall using the basin-averaged CN (hereafter, effective rainfall I), whereas the second method to estimate the basin-averaged effective rainfall through areal-averaging sub-area effective rainfalls corresponding to the soil type and landuse type (hereafter, effective rainfall II). The overall results indicated that the effective rainfall II was higher than the effective rainfall I and closer to the observed direct runoff. The study also performed error analyses to verify that the effective rainfall II can be applied in practice in a basin as more accurate estimate of basin-representative effective rainfall.

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate how the rainfall field effect on a runoff simulation using grid radar rainfall data and ground gauge rainfall. The Gwangdeoksan radar and ground-gauge rainfall data were used to estimate a spatial rainfall field, and a hydrologic model was used to evaluate whether the rainfall fields created by each method reproduced a realistically valid spatial and temporal distribution. Pilot basin in this paper was the Naerin stream located in Inje-gun, Gangwondo, 250m grid scale digital elevation data, land cover maps, and soil maps were used to estimate geological parameters for the hydrologic model. For the rainfall input data, quantitative precipitation estimation(QPE), adjusted radar rainfall, and gauge rainfall was used, and then compared with the observed runoff by inputting it into a $Vflo^{TM}$ model. As a result of the simulation, the quantitative precipitation estimation and the ground rainfall were underestimated when compared to the observed runoff, while the adjusted radar rainfall showed a similar runoff simulation with the actual observed runoff. From these results, we suggested that when weather radars and ground rainfall data are combined, they have a greater hydrological usability as input data for a hydrological model than when just radar rainfall or ground rainfall is used separately.

Floods have become more widespread and frequent among natural disasters and consisted significant losses of lives and properties worldwide. Flood's impacts are threatening socio-economic and people's lives in the Mekong River Basin every year. The objective of this study is to identify the flood hazard areas and inundation depth in the Mekong River Basin. A rainfall-runoff and flood inundation model is necessary to enhance understanding of characteristic of flooding. Rainfall-Runoff-Inundation (RRI) model, a two-dimensional model capable of simulating rainfall-runoff and flood inundation simultaneously, was applied in this study. HydoSHEDS Topographical data, APPRODITE precipitation, MODIS land use, and river cross section were used as input data for the simulation. The Shuffled Complex Evolution (SCE-UA) global optimization method was integrated with RRI model to calibrate the sensitive parameters. In the present study, we selected flood event in 2000 which was considered as 50-year return period flood in term of discharge volume of 500 km3. The simulated results were compared with observed discharge at the stations along the mainstream and inundation map produced by Dartmouth Flood Observatory and Landsat 7. The results indicated good agreement between observed and simulated discharge with NSE = 0.86 at Stung Treng Station. The model predicted inundation extent with success rate SR = 67.50% and modified success rate MSR = 74.53%. In conclusion, the RRI model was successfully used to simulate rainfall runoff and inundation processes in the large scale Mekong River Basin with a good performance. It is recommended to improve the quality of the input data in order to increase the accuracy of the simulation result.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the burning impacts of the surface and crown fire occured in yongsan-ri meongsok-myun of chinju-city, Gyeongnam. Environmental influences like surface runoff and soil erosion changes were investigated by comparisons analysis between burned and unburned area about some initial effects after fire. The results obtained from this study were as followed; 1. The average amount of surface runoff in burned area was more 1.7 times than in unburned area. But it was gradually tend to decrease in burned area as times passed. 2. Factors significantly correlated to amount of surface runoff in burned area shown in order to unit rainfall, accumulated rainfall and sand content, as 0.9466 of multiple correlation coefficient, where as the factors in unburned area were unit rainfall, soil erosion, bulk density and soil hardness, as 0.9738 of multiple correlation coefficient. 3. The average amount of soil erosion in burned area was more 11.2 times than in unburned area. But it was gradually tend to decrease in burned area as times passed. 4. Factors significantly correlated to amount of soil erosion in burned area were surface runoff and unit rainfall, as 0.6305 of multiple correlation coefficient. The factors in unburned area shown in order to surface runoff, sand content, bulk density and unit rainfall, as 0.7879 of multiple correlation coefficient.
The main objective of this study is to determine the time distribution models of rainfall in Korea for estimating design floods and to suggest new runoff model(Geomorphologic Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph; GIUH) in order to be easily use the rainfall-runoff model put rainfall models practice to be suitable for the regional characteristics of hydrologic situation by practicing engineers. As a result, the reappearance of triangular hyetograph and GIUH runoff model showed promising. The historical data from about 13,000 event-rainfalls and 73 rainfall-runoff measuring data during 12 years in International Hydrological Program (IHP) basins have been used to determine the statistical factors of the time distribution for rainfalls by the Yen-Chow, Huff, Pilgrim-Cordery and Mononobe models. The Rational, Kajiyama, Nakayasu and Clark model and GIUH model that this study runoff model were used for the purpose of application limit for basin area against design concept by the estimation of flood runoff and the derivation of empirical equations to estimate the parameters for ungaged basins.
Nowadays, the importance of non-point source pollution treatment is being emphasized. Especially, the easy runoff characteristic of highly concentrated pollutants in the roads makes the circumstance more complicated due to impermeability of roads. When the pollutants flow into steam it could make water quality in stream worse and it also causes a bad influence in the aquatic ecosystem because the effluents of rainfall-runoff may contain indecomposable materials like oil and heavy metals. Therefore, we tried to figure out the property of non-point source pollution when it is raining and carried out an assessment for the property of runoff for non-point source pollution and EMC (Event Mean Concentrations) of the essential pollutants during this study. As the result of the study, the EMC was BOD 5.2~21.7 mg/L, COD 7.5~35.4 mg/L, TSS 71.5~466.1 mg/L, T-N 0.682~1.789 mg/L and T-P 0.174~0.378 mg/L, respectively. The decreasing rate of non-point pollutant in Chungyang-Hongsung road indicates the maximum decrease of 80% until 5 mm of rainfall based on SS concentration; by the rainy time within 20~30 minutes, the decreasing rate of SS concentration was shown as 88.0~97.6%. Therefore it was concluded that it seems to be possibly control non-point pollutants if we install equipments to treat non-point pollutants with holding capacity of 30 min. It is supposed that the result of this study could be used for non-point pollutants treatment of roads in Chungyang-Hongsung area. We also want to systematically study and consistently prepare the efficient management of runoff from non-point source pollution and pollutant loading because the characteristics of non-point source pollution runoff changes depending on different characteristics and situations of roads and rainfall.
This study was conducted to investigate the hydrological characteristics of groundwater level change and rainfall-runoff processes at the Moojechi Bog located in Mt. Jeungjok, Ulsan. The average runoff rate of bog was 0.58 which is similar to that of general mountainous watershed. In the short term hydrograph, runoff was increased slowly and It took a long time to arrive peak flow. After that time, the decreasing pattern of runoff was slower than that of general mountainous watershed. In case of the long term water budget, the Moojechi Bog had a abundant base flow and runoff was continued in spite of non rainfall period. The groundwater level was arrived peak flow immediately after rain stop but was decreased very slowly until the next rain. The change pattern of long term groundwater level was very similar to that of the amount of rain and discharge. The higher rainfall intensity was, the lower slope of recession curve on the groundwater level was and the longer rainfall duration was, the longer peak flow was. Judging from these results, Moojechi bog could be evaluated to have a constant groundwater level.
The purpose of this study is to explore the effectiveness of dual-polarization radar rainfall by comapring with the flood inundation record map through KIMSTORM(Grid-based KIneMatic wave STOrm Runoff Model). For Namgang dam ($2,293km^2$) watershed, the Bisl dual-polarization radar data for 3 typhoons (Khanun, Bolaven, Sanba) and 1 heavy rain event in 2012 were prepared. For both 28 ground rainfall data and radar rainfall data, the model was calibrated using observed discharge data at 5 stations with $R^2$, Nash and Sutcliffe Model Efficiency (ME) and Volume Conservation Index (VCI). The calibration results of $R^2$, ME and VCI were 0.85, 0.78 and 1.09 for ground rainfall and 0.85, 0.79, and 1.04 for radar rainfall respectively. The flood inundation record areas (SY and MD/SG district) by typhoon Sanba were compared with the distributed modeling results. The spatial distribution by radar rainfall produced more surface runoff from the watershed and simulated higher stream discharge than the ground rainfall condition in both SY and MD/SG district. In case of MD/SG district, the stream water level by radar rainfall near the flood inundation area showed 0.72 m higher than the water level by ground rainfall.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of Nakayasu & SCS method and Clark method to the computation of runoff from the river basin in Soyang watershed. As the result, each runoff was conducted to compare and analyze existing established peak flow model, and to propose a pertinent model.
