Soil erosion is a very serious problem from agricultural as well as environmental point of view. Various computer models have been used to estimate soil erosion and assess erosion control practice. Universal Soil loss equation (USLE) is a popular model which has been used in many countries around the world. Erosivity (USLE R-factor) is one of the USLE input parameters to reflect impacts of rainfall in computing soil loss. Value of R factor depends upon Energy (E) and maximum rainfall intensity of specific period ($I30_{max}$) of that rainfall event and thus can be calculated using higher temporal resolution rainfall data such as 10 minute interval. But 10 minute interval rainfall data may not be available in every part of the world. In that case we can use hourly rainfall data to compute this R factor. Maximum 60 minute rainfall ($I60_{max}$) can be used instead of maximum 30 minute rainfall ($I30_{max}$) as suggested by USLE manual. But the value of Average annual R factor computed using hourly rainfall data needs some correction factor so that it can be used in USLE model. The objective of our study are to derive relation between averages annual R factor values using 10 minute interval and hourly rainfall data and to determine correction coefficient for R factor using hourly Rainfall data.75 weather stations of Korea were selected for our study. Ten minute interval rainfall data for these stations were obtained from Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) and these data were changed to hourly rainfall data. R factor and $I60_{max}$ obtained from hourly rainfall data were compared with R factor and $I30_{max}$ obtained from 10 minute interval data. Linear relation between Average annual R factor obtained from 10 minute interval rainfall and from hourly data was derived with $R^2=0.69$. Correction coefficient was developed for the R factor calculated using hourly rainfall data.. Similarly, the relation was obtained between event wise $I30_{max}$ and $I60_{max}$ with higher $R^2$ value of 0.91. Thus $I30_{max}$ can be estimated from I60max with higher accuracy and thus the hourly rainfall data can be used to determine R factor more precisely by multiplying Energy of each rainfall event with this corrected $I60_{max}$.
This study was conducted to suggest a landslide triggering rainfall threshold (ID curve) for landslide prediction by considering the effect of antecedent rainfall. 202 rainfall data including domestic landslide and rainfall records were used in this study. In order to consider the effect of antecedent rainfall, rainfall data were analyzed by changing Inter Event Time Definition (IETD) and IETD based ID curve were presented by regression analysis. Compared to the findings of the previous studies, the presented ID curve has a tendency to predict the landslides occurring at a relatively low rainfall intensity. It is shown that the proposed ID curve is appropriate and realistic for predicting landslides through the validation of proposed ID curve using records of landslides in 2014. Based on this analysis, it is found that the longer IETD, the greater the effect of antecedent rainfall, and the steeper the gradient of ID curve. It is also found that the rainfall threshold (intensity) is higher for the short period rainfall and lower for the long period rainfall.

Generally speaking, agriculture exist in a climatic environment of uncertainty. Namely, normal rainfall value, as given by the mean values, does not exist. Thought on exists, itl does not affect like extreme Precipitation value on the part of agriculture and of others. Therefore, it is important that we measure the duration and severity index of drought caused by extreme precipitation deficit. In this purpose, this study was dealt with the calculation of drought duration and severity indexs by the method of monthly weighting coefficient. There is no quantitive definition of drought that is universally acceptable. Most of the criteria was used to identify drought have been arbitrary because a drought is a 'non-event' as opposed to a distinct event such as a flood. Therefore, confusion arises when an attempt is made to define the drought phenomenon, the calculation of duration, drought index is based on the following four fundamental question, and this study was dealt with the answers of these four questions as they related to this analytical method, as follows. First, the primary interest in this study is to be the lack of precipitation as it relates to agricultural effective rainfall. Second, the time interval was used to be month in this analysis. Third, Drought event, distinguished analytically from other event, is noted by monthly weighting coefficient method based on monthly rainfall data. Fin-ally, the seven regions used in this study have continually affected by drought on account of their rainfall deficit. The result from this method was very similar to the previous papers studied by many workers. Therefore, I think that this method is very available in Korea to identify the duration of drought, the deficit of precipitation and severity index of drought, But according to the climate of Korea exist the Asia Monsoon zone. The monthly weighting coefficient is modify a little, Because get out of 0.1-0.4 occasionally.
Recently, it was realized that a significant portion of pollution from urban areas originates from non-point sources such as construction sites, washoff from impervious surfaces, and sewage input from unsewered areas and combined sewer overflows. Especially, Urban stormwater runoff is one of the most extensive cause of the deterioration of the water quality in streams located in urban area. The objective of this study was to investigate runoff characteristics of non-point pollutants source at the urban area in the Suyeong River. Water quality variations were investigated at two points of Suyeong River during a period of 10 rainfall events. Concentration difference of non-point pollution source appeared big by precedent number of days of no rainfall. In addition, Event mean Concentration (EMCs) that well represents runoff characteristics of storm water during rainfall, was calculated, and runoff pollutants loading was also examined. The probability distribution of EMCs of BOD, COD, TOC, T-N, T-P, and TSS were analyzed and the mean values of observed EMC and the median values of estimated EMCs compared through probability distribution. Other objectives of this study were the characterization of discharge from non-point source, the analysis of the pollutant loads and an establishment of a management plan for non-point source of Suyeong River. Also, It was established that the most important thing for the administration of non-point pollution source is to come up with the solution for the reduction of effluent at the beginning.
This study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of suspended solid concentration in small forest watershed, Hwacheon, Gangwondo. For five rainfall events from July 2013 to August 2013, rainfall, discharge, and suspended solid load has been measured. The results showed that the fist flush effect was observed for suspended solid in each rainfall event, sediment rating curve was obtained with $y=30.029x^{1.573}$ at rising limb and $y=12.902x^{1.8827}$ at falling limb, and EMC (event mean concentration) of suspended solid was calculated to 9.4 mg/L. EMC was compared to the values from the watershed that has various land use types and EMC from forest watershed was much lower that from the crop, paddy or low covered forest watershed.
The linear reservoir rainfall-runoff system was developed as a rainfall-runoff event simulation model. It was achieved from large modification of runoff function method. There are six parameters in the model. Hydrologic losses consist of some quantity of initial loss and some ratio of rainfall intensity followed by initial loss. The model has analytical routing equations. Hooke and Jeeves algorithm was used to model calibration. Parameters were estimated for flood events from '84 to '89 at Seomyeon and Munmak stream gauges, and the trends of major parameters were analyzed. Using the trends, verifications were performed for '90 flood event. Because antecedent fainfalls affect initial loss, future researches are required on such effects. The estimation method of major parameters should also be studied for real-time forecasting.
This study evaluated the pattern of groundwater fluctuation in cyrstalline rock using time series and factor analyses. From the results, groundwater level for the 18 wells was classified into 4 types reflecting the hydrogeological properties and rainfall event. Type 1 (DB1-5, DB1-6, DB2-2, KB-10, KB-13) was significantly influenced by groundwater flow through water-conducting features, whereas type 2 (DB1-3, DB1-7, KB-1~KB-3, KB-7, KB-11, KB-14, KB-15) was affected by minor fracture network as well as rainfall event. Type 3 (DB1-1, DB1-2) was mainly influenced by surface infiltration of rainfall event. Type 4 (DB1-8, KB-9) was reflected by the irregular variation of groundwater level caused by anisotropy and heterogeneity of crystalline rock.

In recent, the series of extreme storm events were occurred by those continuous typhoons and the severe flood damages due to the loss of life and the destruction of property were involved. In this study, we call Mega flood for the Extreme flood occurred by these successive storm events and so we can have a hypothetical Mega flood by assuming that a extreme event can be successively occurred with a certain time interval. Inter Event Time Definition (IETD) method was used to determine the time interval between continuous events in order to simulate Mega flood. Therefore, the continuous extreme rainfall events are determined with IETD then Mega flood is simulated by the consecutive events : (1) consecutive occurrence of two historical extreme events, (2) consecutive occurrence of two design events obtained by the frequency analysis based on the historical data. We have shown that Mega floods by continuous extreme rainfall events were increased by 6-17% when we compared to typical flood by a single event. We can expect that flood damage caused by Mega flood leads to much greater than damage driven by a single rainfall event. The second increase in the flood caused by heavy rain is not much compared to the first flood caused by heavy rain. But Continuous heavy rain brings the two times of flood damage. Therefore, flood damage caused by the virtual Mega flood of is judged to be very large. Here we used the hypothetical rainfall events which can occur Mega floods and this could be used for preparing for unexpected flood disaster by simulating Mega floods defined in this study.

In order to classify the groundwater recharge characteristics in an urban area, a time series analysis of groundwater level data was performed. For this study, the daily groundwater level data from 35 monitoring wells were collected for 3 years (Fig. 1). The use of the cross-correlation function (CCF), one of the time series analysis, showed both the close relationship between rainfall and groundwater level change and the lag time (delay time) of groundwater level fluctuation after a rainfall event. Based on the result of CCF, monitored wells were classified into two major groups. Group I wells (n=10) showed a fast response of groundwater level change to rainfall event, with a delay time of maximum correlation between rainfall and groundwater level near 1 to 7 days. On the other hand, the delay time of 17-68 days was observed from Group II wells (n=25) (Fig. 1). The fast response in Group I wells is possibly caused by the change of hydraulic pressure of bedrock aquifer due to the rainfall recharge, rather than the direct response to rainfall recharge.
There is a growing dissatisfaction with use of conventional statistical methods for the prediction of extreme events. Conventional methodology for modeling extreme event consists of adopting an asymptotic model to describe stochastic variation. However asymptotically motivated models remain the centerpiece of our modeling strategy, since without such an asymptotic basis, models have no rational for extrapolation beyond the level of observed data. Also, this asymptotic models ignored or overestimate the uncertainty and finally decrease the reliability of uncertainty. Therefore this article provide the research example of the extreme rainfall event and the methodology to reduce the uncertainty. In this study, the Bayesian MCMC (Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo) and the MLE (Maximum Likelihood Estimation) methods using a quadratic approximation are applied to perform the at-site rainfall frequency analysis. Especially, the GEV distribution and Gumbel distribution which frequently used distribution in the fields of rainfall frequency distribution are used and compared. Also, the results of two distribution are analyzed and compared in the aspect of uncertainty.
