A representative unit hydrograph responding to a small basin is used to calculate the flood discharge in the basin. The peak discharge and the time to peak of the unit hydrograph are dealt with its characteristic values. In this study it is shown and analyzed the fluctuations at peak discharges and times to peak of unit hydrographs by rainfall storms in a small national basin $8.5\;km^2$ wide are no small. And on assumption that a major factor in the fluctuations of the unit hydrographs in a small basin be rainfall intensity of a rainstorm, both relations of peak discharge and time to peak with rainfall intensity are suggested as exponential functions respectively. In this result although it is a limit of the study in which its result is accompanied with not small dispersion in the peak values of unit hydrograph due to a defect in used data it is sure an averaging regression relation between peak discharge and time to peak with rainfall intensity as identified in this study has hydrological worth from the complementary viewpoint of the theory of unit hydrograph.
Since slope sliding and loss of railway triggered by a rainfall produce instability in the operation of trains, a proper method to estimate the slope stability considering rainfall Is required. from the field study, sliding induced by rainfall depends on the engineering properties of soils, three dimensional aspect of the slope, rainfall intensity and geological conditions of the soil layers. In this study, among various types of sliding, slope Instability caused by the surface runoff water at the concave zones in a slope is investigated. The depth of runoff water is calculated by using the Rational method and Manning equation. The occurrence of runoff water is evaluated by a comparison between the calculated infiltration rate and rainfall intensity. Pressure heads which can be calculated from the modified Iverson model are used to calculate the factor of safety along the vertical depth of the slope. The modified Iverson model considers the depth of runoff water, thus the maximum hydraulic gradient along the depth of slope is greater than one.
Heavy rainfall (over $80mm\;hr^{-1}$) system associated with unstable atmospheric conditions occurred over the Seoul metropolitan area on 27 July 2011. To investigate the heavy rainfall system, we used three-dimensional data from Korea Local Analysis and Prediction System (KLAPS) reanalysis data and analysed the structure of the precipitation system, kinematic characteristics, thermodynamic properties, and Meteorological condition. The existence of Upper-Level Jet (ULJ) and Low-Level Jet (LLJ) are accelerated the heavy rainfall. Convective cloud developed when a strong southwesterly LLJ and strong moisture convergence occurring around the time of the heavy rainfall is consistent with the results of previous studies on such continuous production. Environmental conditions included high equivalent potential temperature of over 355 K at low levels, and low equivalent potential temperature of under 330 K at middle levels, causing vertical instability. The tip of the band shaped precipitation system was made up of line-shaped convective systems (LSCSs) that caused flooding and landslides, and the LSCSs were continuously enhanced by merging between new cells and the pre-existing cell. Difference of wind direction between low and middle levels has also been considered an important factor favouring the occurrence of precipitation systems similar to LSCSs. Development of LSCs from the wind direction difference at heights of the severe precipitation occurrence area was also identified. This study can contribute to the identification of production and development mechanisms of heavy rainfall and can be used in applied research for prediction of severe weather.

In this study, the influence of wetting band depth by continuous rainfall and the magnitude of wetting front suction on the stability of slopes in weathered soils were investigated by using finite element programs SEEP/W and SLOPE/W. Three different intensities of rainfall (10mm/hr, 30mm/hr, 50mm/hr) were chosen, and the total duration of rainfall was 96 hours. Three infinite slopes with the inclination of 1:1.5 and 1:1.8, 1:2.0 were considered and the typical properties and the shear strength parameters of the weathered soil were applied. It is shown that rainfall duration plays an important role in slope stability. Based on the analytical results, it is found that as the rainfall duration increases, the wetting band depth also increases. Also, the increasing rate of the wetting band depth was decreased as the soil density was increased. These results come from the decrease of the coefficient of permeability and the increase of the soil suction. Finally, it is also shown that the safety factors of slopes by unsaturated analysis are mostly larger than those by saturated analysis. Therefore, commonly used saturated analysis may substantially underestimate the degree of safety factor in realistic situations.

Soil erosion by outflow of water or rainfall has caused many environmental problems as declining agricultural productivity, damaging pasture and preventing flow of water. As the interest in environment is increasing lately, soil erosion is considered as a serious problem, whereas the systematic regulation and analysis for that have not established yet. This research shows the method of extracting factor entered model which expects soil erosion by GSIS. There are several erosion model such as ANSWER, WEPP, RUSLE. The research used RUSLE erosion model which could expect general soil erosion connected easily with GSIS data. RUSLE's input factors are composed of rainfall runoff factor(R). soil erodibility factor(K), slope length factor(L), slope steepness factor(S), cover management factor(C) and support practice factor(P). The general equation used to extract L, S factor on the RUSLE to be oriented for agricultural area has some limitation to apply whole watershed. So, on this study we used a revised empirical equation applicable to the watershed by grid on the GSIS. Also, we analyzed RUSLE factors by watershed being analyzed with watershed extraction algorithm. Then we could calculate the minimum, maximum. mean and standard deviation of RUSLE factors by watershed.
Slope stability analysis of unsaturated soil slopes due to rainfall infiltration is an important issue in evaluating landslide analysis and stability assessment. The purpose of this study is to establish the critical depth considering weathered soil of parent rock and rainfall intensity at main scarp in national landslide. Based on the analytical results, it is found that as rainfall duration and Slope angle increased, the critical depth of gneiss-weathered soil increased from 3.00 m to 3.77 m, the critical depth of granite weathered-soil increased from 1.75 m to 2.40 m, and the critical depth of mudstone-weathered soil increased from 3.00 m to 4.15 m, respectively. The critical depth of granite-weathered soil with low cohesion and high internal friction angle is much lower than those of other soils. It is interestingly shown that a decrease in the safety factor is highly significant, much affected by the slope increase rather than the rainfall intensity.
The characteristics of trace metals were investigated in the sediments of the Mokpo coastal area, southwestern coast of Korea. Surface sediments were collected in September 3, 2002 after a strong rain event. The sampling sites were categorized into the inner and outer harbour based on salinity distribution and difference of trace metal concentration was evidence between these two zones. The enrichment factor (E' F) of Zn and Cr were high at the mouth of Mokpo Harbour and $E \cdot F$ of Cu was high at the east-south of Dali Island. One hundred percent of Mn and Pb samples and $40\%$ of Zn samples had E' F higher than 1 suggesting that they are accumulated in the entire outer of Mokpo Harbour. Trace metals appeared to be accumulated in the inner harbour by input of sediments in the discharged freshwater from Young-San River during strong rainfall whereas they were influenced by natural sedimentation and human activities in part.

The slope-related disasters in Korea usually occur between July and September during the typhoon and localized heavy rain. This means that the rainfall is the most important factor that leads to the slope-related disasters. The slope-related disasters can happen at very short time and lead to big damage. To forecast the change of the heave of the groundwater in slope the Seep/w program was used.
Forestry and agricultural land uses constitute 85% of Korea and these land uses are typically mixed in many watersheds. Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) concentration is a primary factor for managing water qualities of the water resources in Korea. BOD loadings from diffuse sources, however, not well monitored yet. This study aims to assess BOD loadings from diffuse sources and their affecting factors to conserve quality of water resources. Event Mean Concentration (EMC) of BOD was calculated based on the monitoring data of forty rainfall events at four agricultural-forestry watersheds. Exceedence cumulative probability of BOD EMCs were plotted to show agricultural activities in a watershed impacts on the magnitude of EMCs. Prediction equation for each rainfall event was proposed to estimate BOD EMCs: $EMC_{BOD}(mg/L)=EXP(0.413+0.0000001157{\times}$(discharged runoff volume in $m^3$)+0.018${\times}$(ratio of agricultural land use to total watershed area).

The aim of the study is to predict potential evapotranspiration and crop water requirement using meteorological data from MIROC3.2 with A1B scenario. Increase of evapotranspiration due to temperature rise can be observed out of the analysis, while effective rainfall decreased. The evapotranspiration elevation results in large amount of crop water requirement in the paddy farming. It can be seen that rainfall intensification at non-irrigation period brings effective rainfall decrease, while contributes to higher demand of crop water at irrigation period. It is necessary to secure additional water resources to adapt the climate change. It is expected that estimation on potentialevapotranspiration in this study can be used for formulation of master plan of water resources.
