생태마을의 물질순환체계에 관한 연구 - 호주 크리스탈워터스 생태마을을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Material Circulation System of Ecovillage - Focused on the Cristalwaters Ecovillage in Australia -)

  • This study intends to propose the fundamentals of 'Ecovillage' design by researching into the cycle system of material of 'Crystalwaters' which is having been in charge of a leading role of GEN since 1996 (GEN was formed in 1996) as Ecovillage in Australia. First, to secure the water resources, we can store up rain and the water of valley, and dam. Second, we are able to use the natural filter apparatus, do tree-planting of roof to gain better quality of water. Third, it is to save the energy as supplying water. For it, we make the best of a gravity that is one of the cycle principle of water. Forth, to build a Dam can make a site of scenic beauty, do the role of recreation place and provide against emergencies (a fire, drought) as well as make a mild climate. Fifth, it can reduce the environment load because of sewage and garbage as making it compost. This is possible by treating biologically using composting apparatus of the dry or wet process. Sixth, it is to reduce the environmental pollution as to discharge seperating a recycable waste, an organic matter being able to make it compost. Finally, first of all, environmentally friendly inhabitant consciousness from lifestyle and production style plays an importent part for water cycle and the ecological cycle of waste and sewage.

아리랑 5호 위성 영상에서 수계의 의미론적 분할을 위한 딥러닝 모델의 비교 연구 (Comparative Study of Deep Learning Model for Semantic Segmentation of Water System in SAR Images of KOMPSAT-5)

  • The way to measure the extent of damage from floods and droughts is to identify changes in the extent of water systems. In order to effectively grasp this at a glance, satellite images are used. KOMPSAT-5 uses Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) to capture images regardless of weather conditions such as clouds and rain. In this paper, various deep learning models are applied to perform semantic segmentation of the water system in this SAR image and the performance is compared. The models used are U-net, V-Net, U2-Net, UNet 3+, PSPNet, Deeplab-V3, Deeplab-V3+ and PAN. In addition, performance comparison was performed when the data was augmented by applying elastic deformation to the existing SAR image dataset. As a result, without data augmentation, U-Net was the best with IoU of 97.25% and pixel accuracy of 98.53%. In case of data augmentation, Deeplab-V3 showed IoU of 95.15% and V-Net showed the best pixel accuracy of 96.86%.

맨홀에 설치된 지역난방 열공급관 에어벤트의 전단부 파손 원인 규명 (Failure Analysis of Air Vent Connected with Heat Supply Pipeline Under Manhole)

  • The air vent connected to a heat supply pipeline in the district heating system has been used to eliminate the existing air in the pipe, which has a detrimental effect on corrosion durability and heat efficiency. Recently, the air vent installed under a manhole for 22 years was corroded and several pinholes were detected in the front-end of the air vent. To identify the cause of the failure, thickness reduction, corrosion products, and water quality were examined. The corrosion damage was significant at the outside of the front-end of the air vent where the insulator was covered. While a thin oxide layer was formed in the interior of the tube, the coarse and porous corrosion products consisting of magnetite and hematite were found externally. Water flowing into the thermal insulator was absorbed by the insulator following hydrolysis. The hydrolyzed insulator ejected the corrosion factors such as Cl-, SO42-, and NH4+. The findings suggest that the corrosion under insulation due to rain water is the main cause of the underlying failure in the air vent.

  • The continuous monitoring of the runoff in the small-scaled urban watershed and easily accessible experiment catchment is necessary to investigate the overall status of the development in the urban catchment and the varying aspects of the discharge characteristics due to the urbanization. However, the research on the management and the characteristics of the small-scaled model basin for discharge tests has not been actively performed up to now. This study selects the Dong-Eui university basin, which locates at Gaya-dong in Busan, as the experiment catchment to monitor the discharge rate in the urban watershed. EMS(DEMS, DATA-PCS EMS, mini rain gage & AWS(AWS-DEU, DATA-PCS AWS) monitoring system installed for the collection of hydrological data such as the rainfall and the waterlevel. This experiment catchment is the typical urban catchment and is under development, and it is possible to analyze the varying aspects of the discharge rate during and after the development.

대규모 아파트 단지주변 하수관로의 악취 발생과 대책 II: 주거지역 하수관로의 악취원인과 대책 (The Foul Smelling from Sewer Pipe near Large Apartment Complexes and its Countermeasures II: The Cause for Foul Odors of Sewer Pipes in Residential Areas)

  • This study investigated the construction and operation status of sewer pipes and water-purifier tanks near densely populated areas like large apartment complexes, in order to find out cause for offensive orders. The study results revealed that the main cause arose from the water-purifier tank and public sewer pipes near ordinary residential areas. First, in case of independent water-purifier tanks, the air is forced into the rotten part of large tanks nearby which should be operated in an anaerobic state, so that the tank changes into an aerobic state, or dirty water, which is returned during the sludge return process, falls on the top of the rotten tank, preventing scum from forming within the tank. Such problems cause incompletely purified water in the purifier tank to be discharged, which in turn results in filthy water. Second, in case of public sewer pipes, deteriorated or aging pipes, or the mixture of rain water and dirty water by mixing up combined and separated sewers system can cause foul odors in residential areas. Therefore, offensive odors in residential areas can be radically reduced through the appropriate construction and management of facilities including water-purifier tanks. As well, if more separate sewers are installed as part of an improvement project for public sewer pipes, complaints about foul smell can be minimized.

The Determination of Dissolved Total Fe by Flow Injection Analysis in Environmental Samples

  • There has been an increasing need for analytical methods of dissolved total iron (tFe) that are highly sensitive, rapid, inexpensive and simple for environmental samples. A sensitive flow injection analysis (FIA) method for determining the concentration of tFe in environmental samples was developed. The proposed method required 10 minutes and only $500{\mu}L$ of sample for and analysis. The standard deviation was 5.0% at $0.5{\mu}gL^{-1}$ (n=6), and the detection limit was $0.075{\mu}gL^{-1}$. The developed method was applied to environmental samples such as tap water, mineral water, rain, snow and cloud water. Since this FIA system was free form interferences of coexisting ions commonly found in samples, sub-${\mu}gL^{-1}$ level of tFe could be easily determined without further preconcentration and separation.

인천-영종 간 해상수송시스템 구축을 위한 경제적 타당성 분석 (A Feasibility Study on the Economic Aspect of Sea Transportation System between Inchon and Youngjong Island)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the economic aspect of sea transportation system between Inchon and Youngjong island in which Inchon international airport is being constructed. Total demand of sea transportation arising from in the airport and Yongyu Muwi leisure complex was estimated. To select optimum transportation route, environmental conditions in and around Inchon harbour and Youngjong island including the change of water depth by tide current, fog, rain, wind adn typhoon, ets., were investigated. The preliminary consideration on ships (size, velocity, transport capacity, price), routes, operational modes, terminals and berthing facilities were carried out. The transportation cost per passenger by sea transportation system was estimated to compare with that of land transportation system. It was found that sea transportation system proposed is competitive to the transportation system.

  • Because drought is a complex and stochastic phenomenon in nature, statistical approaches for drought assessment receive great attention for water resource planning and management. Generally drought characteristics such as severity, duration and intensity are modelled separately. This study aims to develop a relationship between drought characteristics using a bivariate copula model. To achieve the objective, we calculated the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) using rainfall data at 6 rain gauge stations for the period of 1961-1999 in Jehlum River Basin, Pakistan, and investigated the drought characteristics. Since there is a significant correlation between drought severity and duration, they are usually modeled using different marginal distributions and joint distribution function. Using exponential distribution for drought severity and log-logistic distribution for drought duration, the Galambos copula was recognized as best copula to model joint distribution of drought severity and duration based on the KS-statistic. Various return periods of drought were calculated to identify time interval of repeated drought events. The result of this study can provide useful information for effective water resource management and shows superiority against univariate drought analysis.

Enhancing the radar-based mean areal precipitation forecasts to improve urban flood predictions and uncertainty quantification

  • The present study is aimed to correcting radar-based mean areal precipitation forecasts to improve urban flood predictions and uncertainty analysis of water levels contributed at each stage in the process. For this reason, a long short-term memory (LSTM) network is used to reproduce three-hour mean areal precipitation (MAP) forecasts from the quantitative precipitation forecasts (QPFs) of the McGill Algorithm for Precipitation nowcasting by Lagrangian Extrapolation (MAPLE). The Gangnam urban catchment located in Seoul, South Korea, was selected as a case study for the purpose. A database was established based on 24 heavy rainfall events, 22 grid points from the MAPLE system and the observed MAP values estimated from five ground rain gauges of KMA Automatic Weather System. The corrected MAP forecasts were input into the developed coupled 1D/2D model to predict water levels and relevant inundation areas. The results indicate the viability of the proposed framework for generating three-hour MAP forecasts and urban flooding predictions. For the analysis uncertainty contributions of the source related to the process, the Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) using delayed rejection and adaptive metropolis algorithm is applied. For this purpose, the uncertainty contributions of the stages such as QPE input, QPF MAP source LSTM-corrected source, and MAP input and the coupled model is discussed.

  • Combined sewer system (CSS) has been built in the most urban areas across the nation. During dry weather conditions, CSS works fine. But during heavy rain storms, combined sewage frequently overflows into the stream. This study simulated the hydrologic cycle and pollutant loads (BOD, SS, TN and TP) in the Mokgamcheon watershed considering combined sewer overflows (CSOs). PC storm water management model (PCSWMM) was used for continuous simulation and CSOs are considered using the flow divider. Sensitivity analysis, calibration and verification for water quantity and quality are carried out. To verify CSOs, field measurements of CSOs are compared with simulated results. As a result, 41.3% of precipitation flows into the stream directly and 1.1% of water supply flows into stream as CSOs. 6.5% of BOD total loads, 12.0% of SS, 13.6% of TP, and 29.2% of TN are from CSOs. This result will be effective to the integrated watershed management for sustainability.
