It is known that human factors account for 80 percent of all railway accidents. To reduce human errors must be the most efficient shortcut to railway safety. For public transportation employees like railway, the more delicate safety management should be executed in individual level. However, there are rarely efforts to improve safety performance of workers who are the subject operating the railway system. This paper develops a hierarchy model to evaluate the human safety performance in railway industry. To evaluate the model, AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) methodology is adopted. The hierarchy model is composed of four levels which are objective, two criteria, specific factors of criteria, and rating scales. In addition, since employees for evaluation are over 10, the pairwise comparisons for rating scales are carried out by the absolute measurement. We explore the applicability of AHP to the performance evaluation of railway safety workers by an example and also investigate the changes of alternatives that are railway employees according to the changes of human characteristic which is one of criteria.

최근 철도는 운송수단으로써 그 역할이 증대되어 대량화, 고속화, 쾌적화를 지향하고 있다. 나아가 활용성의 극대화, 이용자 편의성 증대 등 다양한 목적을 위해 도심지 및 건물인접구간을 통과하는 철도 및 역사부설도 증가되고 있는 실정이다. 그러나 열차의 대량화, 고속화는 기존에 비해 증가된 소음 및 진동을 유발하며, 이러한 소음과 진동은 인접지역의 민원유발, 구조물의 사용성 저하, 소음진동관련 환경기준치 초과 등 다양한 문제를 야기할 수 있다. 따라서 철도의 소음 및 진동저감 관련기술개발은 철도건설에 있어 필수적이며, 향후 고속철도노선의 확대로 그 중요성은 더욱 증대될 것이다. 본 논문에서는 철도 및 선하역사의 소음 진동저감을 위해 플로팅 슬래브 궤도시스템(floating slab track system)을 소개하고자 하였으며, 이와 관련된 방진재의 개념도를 작성하고, 시스템의 기초해석 및 기본설계를 수행하였다.

본 연구는 국내 및 해외 국가의 철도물류 운영현황을 다양한 지표를 활용하여 비교 검토하여 국내 철도물류 경쟁력에 대한 시사점을 도출하고자 한다. 취득가능한 데이터들을 고려하여 국가간 비교가능한 검토항목과 철도물류회사간 비교가능한 검토항목으로 나누어 연구를 수행하였다. 국가별 화물열차 운행밀도, 화물 열차당 수송량, 화물의 평균 수송거리를 비교하였으며 철도화물회사별 단위수송당 매출액, 영업계수, 직원 1인당 매출액, 직원1인당 수송실적, 단위수송당 영업비용, 영업비용 중 인건비 비중 등을 비교검토 하였다. 분석 결과 우리나라는 다빈도 소량 수송을 하고 있는 상황으로 대량수송의 장점을 충분히 활용하고 있지 못하는 것으로 나타났으며 직원 1인당 수송실적 등 철도화물분야 생산성이 해외 철도화물회사 대비 낮은 것으로 분석되었다.

Climate changes and environmental pollution problems are continuing every year. In Korea, the carbon dioxide(CO2) emissions by the transport sector reached around 20% of pollution. Many countries are enforcing the pollution-control policy. Korean government has introduced the modal shift grants as well as in other countries. In case of nation's transportation plan, the policy basis of green distribution is emphasized. However, the shipper and logistics company have low interests in the modal shift as the massive transportation system. The purpose of this paper is that I studied the policy alternatives for the modal shift of foreign railways., And also I studied the difficult problems at altering the railway freight from domestic road freight and I suggested the alternatives of modal shift to solve those problems.

Recently the train indusrty come to the fore because of Punctual, eco-friendly transportation system and becoming the main transportation. The construction plans for the trian depot for train's maintenance and storage increase constantly. For past few years, there were many construction plans, Bubal train depot, Gwangju train depot, Duckha train depot. Proper track distribution plan is important to carry out the design of railway depot for efficient maintenance operation and train storage. Through the proper design of track distribution plan, we can shorten the moving time, train movement distance, waiting time in train depot. In this paper, the verification of the track distribution plan's efficiency and appropriateness for railway depot as Bubal train depot's plan is studied and analyzed with the train depot management simulation program-Posrail(v1.0).

Now, the goal of the third generation KTX project is to create a new species of high speed train in order to open a new era of high speed railway system in history by authentic Korean technology and innovative design. Now the third generation KTX, must go beyond the original stagnant paradigm and be positioned as an emotional resource which is creating a shift in the public's perspective of transportation and expanding the idea that transportation intersects the two distinct realms of culture and environment as well. In addition, the overall design should reflect the Korean culture and characteristics, simple yet resonant, both the interior space and the exterior fuselage should portray the dynamic heritage of Korea such as the powerful yet subdued energy of Jung Joong Dong. In short, through the symbolic key words in Korean, Dong(Dynamics), Mek(Pulse), Ryu(Flow), Gam(Sensibility), the third generation KTX design project aims to create an new identity of Korean high speed railway which can stand globally.

Urban transit is defined as "Transportation facilities and carriage by track like railway where is constructed and operated in urban area" in Korean urban railway law. Several hundreds of urban transits are operated in the world, and Korea also has 19 lines 590km in several cities like Seoul, Busan etc. In this paper, we classify urban transits and describe the general characteristics of urban transit. And then review major technical issues and present the direction to technical progress.

In this paper, a system for the precise detection of arcs is proposed for a rigid catenary using a spectrometer. For this purpose, a miniature rigid catenary contact-loss simulator was used. Experiments were performed by varying the amplitude of the excitation frequency with which a real arc can occur using a simulator in the range of 5 to 15 mm. The range of the radiated wavelength of the copper, which is a material in the rigid catenary, and the irradiance were measured using a spectrometer according to the generated contact loss. In addition, the amount was monitored over time and its characteristics were analyzed. The voltage and current of the load were analyzed when the arc occurred due to contact loss. The analytical results will be applied to detect rigid catenary arcs and used as a monitoring system for real vehicles developed in the future. This will prevent abrasion and disconnection in rigid catenary systems.

Accumulated deficits resulting from managing the Korean Railroad and debts from the construction of the KTX (Korea Train Express which is a high-speed rail system) have left the Korean Railroad faced with great troubles. Since it changed into a public corporation Korail on January 1st, 2005, the Korea Railroad has been making unceasing efforts to overcome the troubles and improve its management. However, even these efforts haven't worked in the face of the improved conditions of other transportation methods such as better networks of land roads and air ways. The Korea Railroad had its revenue from its railway transportation limited, and has tried to expand its business to non-transportational areas. In some metropolitan cities, the Korea Railroad made investments in real estate by constructing station buildings based on private money. Yet, in small and medium size cities, the Korea Railroad has little particular strategic projects for business development. Recently certain small and medium size regional cities began to plan on business developments for the ex-railway land, and some small towns have developed real estate on the ex-railway land. Nevertheless, there have been no systematic case studies to classify these real estate developments.
