It is reported that many users of the subways in Seoul are not currently satisfied with the subway services. The cause of the dissatisfaction is that the qualitative items and indexes are not considered properly, and also does not diversify the evaluation items to follow the change of subway environment. Therefore in this study the evaluation items and indexes that can reflect of the subway users' characteristics are examined and synthesized. Then the characteristics of service are analyzed for the senior subway system users and junior subway system users that are classified with the cluster analysis. The result of the study is that the majority of users on subway are not satisfied the qualitative items which are safety, kindness, comfortableness, convenience excepting for punctuality and accessibility. So, if the service of subway users improve, the qualitative items is needed to consider with quantitative items.
Urban railway system that leads the urban public transportation enables the passengers to use the subway system safely and conveniently by indicating the destination of, status of approach of and other information on train through Train Destination Equipment(TDE), which is one of the important passenger services. The existing system is composed of Host Station Equipment(HSE) and operator panel that receives necessary input on train information from Total Traffic Control System(TTC), Local Station Equipment(LSE) that controls Train Destination Indicator(TDI) installed at each station, and Train Destination Indicator that ultimately displays train information to the passengers using the train system. This study aims to realize stabilized and reliable announcement system for destination of train by considering processing procedure and method of expression of inputted information of the existing system of notification of announcement of destination of train that can be applied in the RFID, which is the base technology of USN for which service expansion is easy, and to realize system that considers interface with USN and expandability with other facilities in the future.
In the train schedule plan corresponds to a master plan for transport services. This service plan must be constructed to minimize operational cost or maximize revenue considering transportation demands and resource capacities in the operation company, and it includes several sub-planning activities such as train operation frequency plan, train schedule plan, train capacity assignment plan, and rolling stock requirement plan. In this paper, we present profitability evaluation system for the current train schedule plan. The proposed system can be used for evaluating profitability by estimating train service revenue considering customer demands.

The LTE system decided to build an integrated disaster safety communication network in order to cope with disasters quickly after the April 16, 2014 disaster, and 333 agencies in 8 areas will build a unified disaster safety communication network. It plans to integrate LTE-R, a railway integrated wireless network, and LTE-M, a land-based communication network, in the 700MHz band. LTE-R, a wireless integrated network, and the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, are currently using VHF and TRS, which are voice communication-oriented communication systems, in order to cope with demand for high-speed railway service, With this possible LTE-R, it is possible to provide advanced services such as radio-based train control and improve railway safety. The company plans to invest KRW 1.1 trillion in new routes to be launched in 2018 and the existing route to be improved in the future, and to build up all routes of general and high-speed railways to LTE-R by 2027.
Ever since Korea was geopolitically divided into North and South Korea in the 1940s, South Korea has depended on maritime transportation for global trade and logistics. Now, however, South Korea is preparing to develop a new global route for trans-Eurasia logistics passing through North Korea. Even though there are difficulties to overcome, South Korea expects that a new overland route, shorter than the existing seaways in the Europe-Asia section, will bring more frequent trade with more rapid and cost-effective logistics services in the future. Related to this issue, this study aims to proactively analyze dynamic logistics changes in South Korea when a trans-Korea railway is developed and linked with the trans-China railway and the trans-Siberian railway. This study employed a system dynamics simulation approach to model the logistics system in South Korea. The simulation results indicated that the traffic of the Uiwang inland container depot near the capital area may increase but the traffic of the Port of Busan may decrease. With supplementary research, consequently, follow-up studies on adjusting the traffic capacity in Korea are required to attain successful trans-Eurasia logistics by rail.

Currently, the urban railway operating agency is improving the emergency telephone in operation into an IP-based "trackside integrated interface communication facility" that can support a variety of additional services in order to quickly respond to emergency situations within the tunnel. This study is based on this Analyze the needs of various stakeholders regarding the design of a system architecture that establishes an IoT sensor network environment to detect abnormal situations in the tunnel and transmits the collected information to the control center to predict disaster situations in advance, and defines the system requirements. In addition, a scenario model for disaster response was provided through the presentation of a service model. Through this, the perspective of responding to urban railway disasters changes from reactive response to proactive prevention, thereby ensuring safe operation of urban railways and preventing major industrial accidents.

Put Safety-critical systems related to the railway communications are currently undergoing changes. Mechanical and electro-mechanical devices are being replaced by programmable electronics that are often controlled remotely via communication networks. Therefore designers and operators now not only have to contend with component failures and user errors, but also with the possibility that malicious entities are seeking to disrupt the services provided by theirs systems. Recognizing the safety-critical nature of the types of communications required in rail control operations, the communications infrastructure will be required to meet a number of safety requirements such as system faults, user errors and the robustness in the presence of malicious attackers who are willing to take determined action to interfere in the correct operation of a system. This paper discusses the safety strategies employed in the railway communications and proposes a security mechanism for Korean railway communication system. We present the developed communication safety evaluation tool based on the proposed security mechanism and also evaluate its protecting capability against the threats of masquerading, eavesdropping, and unauthorized message manipulation.

Ubiquitous location based services, offer helpful services anytime and anywhere by using real-time location information of objects based on ubiquitous network. Particularly, autonomous mobile robots can be a solution for various applications related to ubiquitous location based services, e.g. in hospitals, for cleaning, at airports or railway stations. However, a meaningful and still unsolved problem for most applications is to develop a robust and cheap positioning system. A typical example of position measurements is dead reckoning that is well known for providing a good short-term accuracy, being inexpensive and allowing very high sampling rates. However, the measurement always has some accumulated errors because the fundamental idea of dead reckoning is the integration of incremental motion information over time. The other hand, a localization system using RFID offers absolute position of robots regardless of elapsed time. We construct an absolute positioning system based on RFID and investigate how localization technique can be enhanced by RFID through experiment to measure the location of a mobile robot. Tags are placed on the floor at 5cm intervals in the shape of square in an arbitrary space and the accuracy of position measurement is investigated . To reduce the error and the variation of error, a weighting function based on Gaussian function is used. Different weighting values are applied to position data of tags since weighting values follow Gaussian function.

This paper presents a structuring process of unstructured social network service (SNS) messages on rail services. We crawl messages about rail services posted on SNS and extract keywords indicating date and time, rail operating company, station name, direction, and rail service types from each message. Among them, the rail service types are classified by machine learning according to predefined rail service types, and the rest are extracted by regular expressions. Words are converted into vector representations using Word2Vec and a conventional Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is used for training and classification. For performance measurement, our experimental results show a comparison with a TF-IDF and Support Vector Machine (SVM) approach. This structured information in the database and can be easily used for services for railway users.
Since the KTX start its service on April 1st of 2004, KTX increased its share up to 17.4% (2008). It's the 2nd after the passenger car share of 59.2% in the national transportation, but the gap is still wide. In addition, because of the rise of goods' and oil price, the share of intercity express bus is growing up. Nevertheless Korail is trying to improve the train schedule and develop internodal transit system, the number of passengers of KTX is remain flat. KORAIL should start and proceed the tasks below. - Analysis of the 5 year's operation of KTX since the year of 2004 to make plans for the steady growth - development of the KTX operation plan for expansion of railway - preparing the operation of additional passenger rail services on the mail line for newly introduced trains. - expansion of KTX's service area after the introduction of KTX-II - introduction of other new trains - examination for the action plans to promote marketing in main-line including refinement of the rate structure
