A Relationship between the Noise and Vibration of a Wheelset and the Irregularity of a High-speed Railway: A Preliminary Research (윤축의 소음 및 진동과 고속선 궤도불규칙간의 관계에 대한 기초연구)

  • This paper is focused on a relationship between the noise and vibration of a wheelset and the railway irregularity of a high speed railway using a time-varying frequency transform for a preliminary research of the railway condition monitoring by an in-service high-speed railway vehicle. Generally, the monitoring has been performed by a special railway inspection vehicle or industrial engineers for railway maintenance. However, they have been limited at night due to the in-service high-speed railway vehicles, and too slow to monitor all of the section. To solve this problem, the monitoring should be performed by an in-service high-speed railway vehicle. For the research, the noise and vibration of a wheelset are utilized, because they are closely related to the railway condition. They are measured by using some microphones and accelerometers, and stored in an on-board data acquisition system. The signals are post-processed by a time-varying frequency analysis and compared with the result of a railway geometry and profile measurement system. From the comparison, it is able to observe the relationship between the noise and vibration of a wheelset and the irregularity of a high-speed railway. Also, some distinct frequency components are observed, which are not observed in the railway geometry and profile.

  • The structural analysis model for estimate of load carrying capacity of railway bridge on service line is important to determine safety of bridges in service, we need to take response of bridge exactly, applying analysis model similar to the real railway bridge most. Track structure which is to distribute loads and decrease vibrations occurred from running train is constructed on the railway bridges. And it is important factor which should be considered to understand exact dynamic and static responses of bridge. But track structure is currently classified as a none structural members in the structural analysis model for estimating load carrying capacity of railway bridge and not considered in analysis model. That's the reason it is difficult to understand exact behavior of bridges. Therefore, the major objective of this study is to develop an analytical track-bridge model which is similar to real railway bridges considering track structure for safety assessment of railway bridge on service line to be effectively done.

  • For continuous improvement of the railway customer satisfaction service, more objective evaluation and development system for software and hardware shall be built. The entire activity of railway customer is the interface between the customer and software/hardware services. Customer's activity was investigated by participating observation and objective observation, and considering the connection of all the activities, it was divided into 9 categories and 43 items. Although the detailed activity of customer would vary per item, they show more than 430 different activities under general condition. Also, the customer's activity varies according to the numerous variants such as physical, mental, environmental and cultural features. Especially, as lots of changes, diversification and high-quality of railway industry are expected according to the middle and long term plan on railway industry development, it is necessary for experts in various fields to perform cooperative research aggressively to improve the customer satisfaction service continuously based on continuous customer activity research.

  • The study for ubiquitous computing infra is proceeding actively, it make possible to use service and access network anywhere, anytime because of wire/wireless communication technology and progress of hardware. Domestically, study for the network mobility support technology which is the key technology for future ubiquitous computing realization have progressed, but that is insufficient. Especially, there is no study for independent mobility support study about railway wireless network. So, this study propose network mobility management technology for mobile network infra in railway and proper network model in train.

The Effects of the Service Orientation on Job Satisfaction and Customer Orientation of the Urban Railway-operating Company (도시철도운영기관의 서비스지향성이 직무만족과 고객지향성에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper performed an empirical study through the survey to investigate the effects of the service orientation of the urban railway-operating company on employees' job satisfaction and customer orientation. For this, the surveyed data was analyzed through factor analysis, reliability analysis, and regression analysis. The difference between railway-operating companies was analyzed by the t-test and the differences between workers in different fields were analyzed by the ANOVA test. The results show that 1) human resource management, employee empowerment, service leadership, and service system are positively related to employees' job satisfaction in the decreasing order, 2) the service system, human resource management, and service leadership are positively related to customer orientation, but employee empowerment is negatively related to customer orientation, 3) the workers of the urban railway-operating company A and B show significant differences in job satisfaction and customer orientation, and 4) the job satisfaction and the customer orientation of the rolling stock maintenance workers was the highest and that of service workers in station was the lowest.

A Study on the Customer-based Pricing Approach for Railway Fare of Express Train

  • Purpose - Among the various pricing approaches used to set fares for express trains, this study explores a method of utilizing a customer-based pricing approach. The purpose of this study is to figure out how to apply the customer-based pricing approach to fares of new railway services using express trains. Research design, data, and methodology - This study was conducted through a literature review and case studies. In the literature review, we examined three approaches, focusing on the customer-based pricing approach and its application. In the case studies, we show how a customer-based pricing approach can be applied to determining the fares for railway services. Result - Some studies have used a customer-based pricing approach to set railway service rates, adapting the concepts of customer-based pricing such as demand, elasticity, value and willingness to pay. When setting fares of new railway services, it is recommended to use the customer-based approach in conjunction with other pricing approaches. Conclusion - This study demonstrates that a customer-based pricing approach is a promising tool in making decisions on railway fares. By applying a customer-based pricing approach to fares for new railway services using express trains, railway operators can utilize new service rates and increase the profitability of the railway business.

  • The introduction of KTX(Korea Train Express) has brought an historic change to the overall transit system in Korea. Especially, the high-speed railway stations are expanding the scope as public transit centers. However, we cannot deny that the evaluation on the high-speed railway stations had not been performed successfully so far. The evaluation covers from the connectivity of the scope from door to the stations and the transfer service in the interior of stations. We developed the service evaluation indicators of transfer facilities in the high-speed railway stations. The indicators consist of level of service(LOS), the propriety of allocation, and the quality of information throughout the facilities in the centers. We examined the 7 stations in Korea and standardized the methodology of the evaluation process by applying the indicators. Also, the evaluation is performed easy for anyone to follow.

  • This study aims to verify the causal relationship between service quality of the urban railway operating agency and users' behaviors, targeting the urban railway users. The perceived ease of use of the urban railway service quality had an influence on tangibility and convenience, and the perceived usefulness was significant to all attributes; therefore, it is judged that reliability, correspondence and safety should be improved to increase the users' perceived ease of use of the urban railway service quality. Based on these study results, the urban railway operating agency should make an effort to increase the perceived ease of use and usefulness of the urban railway to improve the service quality, to positively change the users' attitudes toward use, and to make the positive change connected to the intention of reuse and intention of recommendation, the users' behavior intentions.

Quality Analysis for the Data Distribution Service of the Real-time Integrated Railway Safety Monitoring and Control System (실시간 철도안전 통합 감시제어시스템의 데이터 분산 서비스 품질 적합성 분석)

  • In this paper, we analyse DDS(Data Distribution Service) QoSs(Quality of Services) with experiments, which can control the network transmission quality provided by 'Object Management Group' DDS standard to satisfy the data transmission quality requirements of 'Real-time integrated railway safety monitoring and control system(RIRSMCS)'. 'RIRSMCS' is a system for collecting and analyzing data from various sensors at a railway field to predict and prevent the risk of potential railway accidents. Data transmission quality should be ensured for transmitting the collected data in real-time, accurately and stably for this system. Experimental results show that it is possible to ensure real-time, accurate and stable data transmission for monitoring and control of railway safety using DDS QoS.

  • Since the railway passenger services have been recognized as important factor for success in railway, electrical energy consumption in railway station for high quality service has greatly increased. Furthermore, the number of the private railway station has gradually increased. Therefore, the operation conditions for railway power distribution system is dramatically changed in comparison with the past. So, this paper proposes the optimal construction method for railway power distribution system considering economical efficiency and the reliability of power supply to establish the railway power distribution system standard for the future railway industry.
