  • A electric railway is unique system that electric trains consumed huge electric power are travelled and is much interested with EMC. There were several problems exceeding the standard in the frequency range of 9kHz to 150kHz because the radiation noises were moved the higher frequency range according to developing the power electronic technology. It is studied the experimental confirmation of main noise source on the electric train and the analytic simulation for reducing the noise level in this paper.

  • In this paper, various hazard factors are reviewed on the train fire accident in railway tunnel and subway. In case studies of systematic risk evaluation on the tunnel fire accident, we have learned the critical fire safety points for accident prevention and damage reduction such as fire-endurance of infrastructure, mortality of heat & toxic smoke, emergency situation control and management of escape requirements etc.. These hazard analysis study will contribute for improving the railway fire-safety and establishing the long-tenn safety management plan.

  • In this study, Among various rail track systems, Ballast and concrete track system of Seoul-Busan High-speed Line was adopted to quantify the amount of environment load through the LCA technique. It was intended to compare the results of both track systems through investigating life cycle inventory and gathering the material and energy flows of each track system. With applying the LCA technique to railway infrastructure, which simple maintenance was considered in the past, fundamental technology can be established for the sustainable development in the railway construction industry.

  • Railway system is a word that includes rolling stock, railway infrastructure and signalling System in passenger transfer and rail freight. This system get higher competitiveness in energy efficiency part than other transfer system. But it is comprehensive system has latent loss of lives and property by big accident. First of all, to control this comprehensive system and to confirm safety of it, we need human resource management. This research will suggest how to apply efficiency safety verification and certification system to railway system. human resource management systems is defined as three kinds that is recruitment and management, ensure personnel's competencies and fitness, activity of assigning suitable responsible person for work.

  • As tilting train is the effective solution to provide faster passenger service on conventional railway lines without too costly modification of infrastructure, it is expected that tilting train will be put into service for Korean conventional Railway Lines. Very few passengers may suffer from motion sickness on conventional train and high speed train. But some sickness among passengers of tilting trains have been reported. Up to now, a standardized motion sickness index was mainly developed in the shipping domain. Therefore, there was a need for railway motion sickness index in order to predict and evaluate the motion sickness which is likely to be experienced by passengers. This paper is the preliminary investigation to propose the technical index related to motion sickness and nausea phenomena for the tilting train development and operation.

  • Railway safety case is an important measure for demonstrates operating company's capability, commitment and competence in accordance with Railway Regulation 2000 in UK. Safety case describes the scope of operation, definition and boundary of activity, risk analysis, system safety activity, annul safety plan. Relationships between' these components and company's policy, organization, human resource, control measure, investment plan are also included. A case study for Network Rail (infrastructure manager)'s safety case is described in this paper for the construction of safety rule and safety planning.

  • Tilting-train is very attractive to the railroad users in the world due to the advantage of high speed in curved track using pre-existing infrastructure of railway. Tilting-train has a unique allowable speed and mechanism especially in curved track. In this work, when tilting-train is operated with the allowable speed, the behavior of roadbed is evaluated by examining its settlement and bearing capacity. Additionally, the stability of roadbed is estimated as the roadbed is in the condition of soft soil influenced by the weather effects and cyclic train loading. Numerical results show that the roadbed settlement satisfies the allowable settlement when the elastic modulus of upper roadbed should be greater than $5000t/m^2$.

  • This study shows organizational designs to increase the coordination between infrastructure and rolling stock operation organizations after rail reform based on wheel/rail interface and train/track interaction. Information sharing, face-to-face meeting, liaison role, task force, manager responsible for coordination, and team organization could help to coordinate infrastructure construction plan and train operation plan. It is necessary for the organizations to begin to study the interaction between track and train in Korean environments to make the coordination more efficient.

  • Since 'The Act on Private Investment of The Infrastructure' was established in 1994, private investment as well as government's investment in transport infrastructure has been active. However investment in transport infrastructure has more risks than others' due to uncertainty both in traffic volume and in construction cost. In the current appraisal procedure of deciding transportation infrastructure investment, instead of risk management, the sensitivity analysis considering only the changes of benefit, cost and social discount rate which are main factor affecting economic feasibility is carried out. Therefore the uncertainty of various factors affecting demand, cost and benefit are not considered in feasibility study. In this study the problems in current investment appraisal system were reviewed. Using Delphi technique the major factors which have high uncertainty in feasibility study were surveyed and then improvement plan was suggested in the respective of classic 4 step demand forecasting method. The range estimation technique was also mentioned to deal with the uncertainty of the future.
