Using a test run data, the dynamics of the interface between the catenary and pantograph constituting the current collection system in high-speed trains are investigated. The test run signals are analyzed to determine the dynamic parameters critical to the current collection performance. There are found to be frequency components of the pantograph motion that are dependent on train speed as well as components that are stationary such as the resonant mode of the panhead suspension in the pantograph. From contact force measurement using load cell, the mean contact force was found to be stable while the fluctuating component was found to be dependent on the range of the frequency of the pantograph motion taken into account. The finding implies that numerical investigations reported in the literature that are based on lumped element models of the catenary and/or pantograph provide accurate predictions on the mean value but are of limited use in estimating fluctuation of the contact force. It is concluded that simulation studies based on lumped-element models which do not incorporate panhead structural vibration modes is inaccurate at high train speeds.
Station is an important building in high-speed railway, and its vibration and noise may significantly affect the comfort of waiting passengers. A coupling vibration model for train-structure system is established to analyze and evaluate the vibration level of a typical waiting hall under dynamic train load. The motion of a four-axle vehicle with two suspension system is modeled in multi-body dynamics with linear springs and dampers employed. The station is modeled as a whole finite element structure which is 113 m in longitudinal and 163.5 m in lateral, and the stiffness of the station foundation is considered. According to the assumptions that both wheel and rail are rigid bodies and keep contact to each other in vertical direction, and the wheel/rail interaction and displacement coordination in horizontal direction is defined by the simplified Kalker creep theory, the vehicle spatial vibration model has 27 degrees-of-freedom. An overall analysis procedure is made of the train moving through the station, by which the dynamic responses of the train and the station are calculated. According to the comparison between analysis and test results, the actual connection status between different parts of the station is estimated and the vibration level of the waiting hall is evaluated.
Dynamic analysis is necessary for the High-Speed Railway vehicle which aims to run on max 400km/h. Especially, dynamic simulation using CAE(Computer Aided Engineering) can help to reduce the time of development of the High-Speed Railway vehicles. Also, it helps to reduce prices and improve the quality such as safety, stability and ride. There are many dynamic software for a railway vehicle, such as Vampire and ADAMS-Rail. There are limitations for each software and difficulties to analyze overall dynamics for entire railway system. To overcome these limitations, in this study, a program which can simulate entire railway vehicles was developed. This program is easy to use because it was developed using C++, which is object-oriented programming language. In addition, the basic platform for the development of dynamic solver is prepared using the nodal, modal coordinate system with a wheel-rail contact module. Rigid, flexible and large deformable body systems can be modeled by a user according to the characteristic of a desired system. Its reliability is verified by comparison with a commercial analysis program.
This study aims to investigate dynamic interaction characteristics between Maglev train and 3 span continuous guideway. The integrated model including a 3D full vehicle model based on multibody dynamics, flexible guideway by a modal superposition method, and levitation electromagnets with the feedback controller is proposed. The proposed model was applied to the Incheon Airport Maglev Railway to analyze the dynamic response of the vehicle and guideway from the numerical simulation. Using field test data of air gap and guideway deflections, obtained from the Incheon Airport Maglev Railway, the analysis method is verified. From the results, it is confirmed that Maglev railway system are designed and constructed safely according to the design criteria.
The dynamic behavior of high speed train is very important because of its safety and passengers' ride comfort. The railway vehicle is composed of many suspension components, such as 1st springs, 1st dampers, 2nd springs and 2nd dampers, that have an influence on the dynamic characteristics of high speed train. Also, the wheel/rail shapes and the track geometry affect the dynamic behavior of high speed train. This paper reviews the dynamic behavior of KHST in the KTX test line. The VAMPIRE program is used for this simulation. The simulation results are within the limits of safety criteria. Thus the KHST can operate safely at 350 km/h in the KTX test line.
The study is to develop a foundation design for a railway vehicle simulator using a scaled model. Although a scaled simulator is limited to manipulate the dynamics of a full-size railway vehicle, it has been known to have an advantage, since a scaled model could provide the fundamental dynamic behavior within a limited space of a laboratory facility and with a low operation cost while an experiment is conducted. This study is to propose a design strategy for a simulator so that a small scaled roller rig could be fabricated in a laboratory based on the design philosophy. The data obtained from the scale model is also experimentally investigated in conjunction with appropriate non-dimensional analysis so that the output results should be interpreted to the railway vehicle.
Wheel/Rail geometric constraint relationships, such as effective conicity and gravitational stiffness, strongly influence the lateral dynamics of railway vehicles. In general, these geometric contact characteristics are nonlinear functions of the wheelset lateral displacement. There is a need to develop a wheel/rail geometric contact simulation program for wheels and rails with arbitrary profiles for the prediction of the dynamic behavior of railway vehicles. An algorithm to simulate any combination of wheels and rails is employed and a GUI for easy analysis is constructed. The simulation program is applied to KTX which will run on both KTX and conventional rails, two rail standards having different rail profiles. The results show that the two rail systems have different geometric contact characteristic
Sensitivity analysis of suspension elements of an articulated bogie for light railway vehicles is presented. The ride, stability and safety are used as dynamic performance index. Suspension elements of 10 and a conicity of wheel are used as design variables, To analyze sensitivity of design variables, the railway vehicle dynamics analysis program AGEM is used. The results shows that the secondary suspension elements have a strong effect on ride and the primary suspension elements have a moderate effect on ride. Conicity of wheel has a strong effect on the stability, The safety is not effected by all the design variables.
In this paper, descibed was the derived algorithm for calculating contact point between wheel and rail and the developed method for rail modeling. The proposed methods use travelling distance to represent rail center line position vector and rail orientation with respect to Newtonian reference frame. The methods call be easily used ill multibody dynamic analysis. Two numerical examples are shown to verify the validity of the proposed methods.
