  • Railroad is considered a representative echo-friendly mode, but there are many civil complaints due to dusts arising in the process of bulk cargo transportation. The freight station which is handling coal are slowly decreasing because of civil complaints. Generally gondolas and hopper cars kinds of freight cars have a role to carry coal such as anthracite and bituminous coal. The railroad competitiveness in the field of bulk cargo transportation is diminishing because there are cost increase and dust emission in the process of transshipment. In this study, we analysed the logistics process of bulk cargo transportation in the point of railroad and we could draw the problems from the logistics process. The results could be used to study various alternatives to improve the process of coal transportation.

  • The $2{\times}25kv$ AT electric power feeding method in the A.C. electric train adopts the one-phase power feeding method as the standard due to a voltage phase difference, and the distance between the two neighboring substations is 50km due to voltage drop. The one-phase power feeding method makes the system operation feasible, while making it unfavorable for power supply. Moreover, railroad involves large-capacity single-phase load, and if it is expected to continue to rise, it is necessary to research on measures to stabilize the supply of power to railroad cars with the existing facilities. In this study, a parallel power feeding method between neighboring substations is proposed to stabilize the supply of electric power to electric railroad cars under the 2*25kv AT power feeding method and the loop current induced by voltage phase difference between the two neighboring substations during parallel power feeding is investigated.

  • In tread brake of freight cars, brake force is produced by the friction between the wheel and the brake shoe. Friction coefficients associated with the brake power, weight variation and brake shoe types should be sensitively treated as the design parameters. The conditions of the car, empty and loaded, should also be taken into consideration in brake force design and the control of brake force has some limitations in terms of the brake system design so that the brake friction materials selection should be considered as important measures to solve that difficulties. Friction characteristics of brake friction materials should remain within the range of maximum and minimum value and the friction performance should remain stable regardless of brake time and temperature. This study presented an experimental evaluation method to secure optimum brake performance by keeping safe brake effect and brake distance by the friction coefficient of the brake shoe of the freight cars.

  • In order to facilitate technical exchange among nations and/or institutes through the establishment of mutual recognition and the reliability guarantee of testing results by testing standards standardization, the interlaboratory comparison tests on brake discs and linings between KRRI and CARS were conducted. So far, two ways of comparison tests were performed for a better understanding of mutual recognition and standardization in railroad brake linings between Korea and China. In this paper, the first and second comparison testing results have been summarized, and the suggestions for the future research work are also presented to encourage extensive research on comparison study of railroad brake discs and linings between KRRI and CARS. Eventually, the final goal of the current research will be the establishment of standardization of railroad testing standards.

호퍼형 일관수송용기 도입 효과 (The Effect of Hopper-type Container for Through Transit)

  • There are many exclusive freight cars in railway freight transportation system. Gondola is one kind of freight cars. Gondolas have a role to carry bulk-type cargo such as coals and ores. A few problems are occurring due to exclusive freight cars. Operation company has redundant freight cars because exclusive freight cars can carry limited items. And purchasing cost of freight cars is higher and higher because of irregular bid. Operation efficiency of gondola is very low because return time of gondola is much longer than that of container car. In this study, we analysed the introduction effect of hopper-type container for through transit. First, we identified the characteristics of spatial distribution on freight stations. And we provided the effect of hopper-type container in terms of operation efficiency, cost reduction, new demand excavation and image enhancement of eco-friendly railroad.

  • Sleeping cars mean railroad cars which are equipped with facilities available business, travel, rest, sleep for long distance travel. Domestic sleeping cars , as the concept of ‘night train’, provide passenger who travel at night with simple berth . German, Japanese, American sleeping cars are classified with sleeping car, coach car, seat car or first class, standard class, family room, room for the handicapped, which offer not only sleep but various facilities and service such as snack, reading, available shower for daytime travel. Accordingly, through the analyzing spatial factor of domestic and foreign sleeping cars, we first should abstract the demand for fundamental design to enhance our passenger's comfort. And then we should try to improve the quality of travel culture by offering it passenger.

해외 충돌안전규정에 따른 유류탱크화차의 비선형충돌해석 연구 (A study on nonlinear crash analysis of railway tankcar according to the overseas crashworthiness regulations)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 국내 위험물 운송용 탱크화차의 충돌안전설계 가이드라인 제안을 위해 해외 충돌안전 기준에 따른 국내 위험물 운송화차에 대하여 비선형 충돌해석을 하여 위험성을 평가하고, 구조적 취약부를 분석하는데 있다. 유럽의 EN 12663-2에서 규정하는 화차의 완충시험 및 북미 49CFR179에서 규정하는 탱크 펑크시험기준을 분석하였으며, 상용 유한요소 해석 솔버인 LS-DYNA를 이용하여 각각 기준에 따른 비선형 유한요소모델을 모델링하였다. EN 규격의 완충시험 해석결과 충돌속도 6 km/h 이하에서는 소성변형이 발생하지 않을 것으로 예측하였지만, 8 km/h 이상의 충돌속도에서 중앙연결기를 통한 하중 전달으로 차체의 센터실 후방 및 탱크 중앙 지지부에서 소성변형을 확인하였다. 북미 법규의 탱크 펑크시험 해석결과 국내 탱크화차는 두부 충돌모드에서 충돌차량의 운동에너지를 4 % 이상 흡수시 두부의 코너부에서 탱크 외벽의 파괴가 발생하였으며, 측면 충돌모드에서 운동에너지 30 % 이상 흡수시에 충격체가 접촉하는 탱크 외벽의 파괴가 발생하여 내부 적재물의 누출을 예상하였다. 국내 유류 운송용 탱크화차의 해외 충돌안전 기준의 만족을 위해서는 차체 구조보강 설계 및 탱크 방호설계 수준을 향상시킬 필요가 있다.

  • A Railroad Cars playa prominent role in a matter of transportation yet it cannot be discussed here for cultural space. On the other hand, considering railroad customers' increaced desire(craving) for cultural space, we design it in the train so that we provide customers not only transportation but also fullfil them desire for culture. In the competitive cultural era. The aim of the new strategy for railroad bussiness is both inspiving art and operating exhibition facilities in the train(railroad). Through analysis of exhibition space and environment, we design exhibition space to equip cultural facilities in the train then lead to make railroad business' new social education role by the inside and outside of the country.

  • The role of environment-friendly and energy-efficient rail transportation is on the rise as a "sustainable transportation means" to cope with environmental changes that are major concerns around the world. Along with the environmental problems, the CO2 inhibition issue became critical for mankind to prepare global warming and high oil prices. It has come to a point where an alternate means are needed to revitalize plans including renewable energy, bicycle utilization, and prepare new solutions for decreasing number of cars within the city The personal rapid Transit(PRT) is the revolutionary future transportation means that can replace cars to deal with ever-increasing traffic congestions, vehicles, and environmental/energy problems. Expected as an efficient means, technology development has already taken place in developed countries such as U.S., England, and Germany. To meet the future demands, PRT installation around the nation's new and existing towns is being examined to produce important factors. The factors are produced for examining the availability of system requirements during design and construction practice.
