  • In this paper, the results of an analysis of the dynamic behavior of the eddy current brake(ECB) system are presented. The measured irregularity of the track in Korean high speed line and the track irregularity given by ERRI(high level) were used for simulation. The wheel-rail profile combination were analyzed with different rail gauges. A model of the bogie with an substitute body fur the carbody was implemented in the Multi-Body-Simulation Program Simpack. • In this study. a computer simulation of the Korean High Speed Prototype Test Train was performed to investigate the dynamic behavior(running stability. safety and comfort) in detail design process. The simulation model which was prepared by ADAMS/Rail V10.l consists of power car and middle car assembly (2 motorized cars + 3 trailer cars). The nonlinear analysis takes into account the full vehicle model including wheel/rail contact and the influence of disturbed track. Throughout the dynamic calculation of KHST on the straight and the curved track. accelerations in car body. ride comforts and wheel rail forces were investigated.

  • The major noise source for the conventional train is the rolling noise caused by the interaction of the wheels and rails during the train passage on the tangent track. In order to control the rolling noise, the noise radiated from wheels, rails and sleepers should be analyzed and predicted. In this paper, a prediction method of wheel/rail rolling noise generated by the roughness of the wheel/rail surface is described, where the method is considering the effect of noise radiated by sleepers and the effect of ground. The method is applied to the Korean railway system, and the sound pressure level (SPL) predicted by the proposed method is compared with the measured SPL. Overall. the result shows good agreement between the predicted and measured values.

  • A maglev train records a host of physical variables such as gaps, voltages and currents for suspension control and monitoring purposes. These data available from a maglev contains wealth of information that can be explored for various uses. One possible of such application is to use the gap data to estimate the shape of the rail, especially at the joints where rails are connected. The eddy current sensors that measure the gap between the rail and the car body produce large peaks around the joints. The suspension controller discards these peaks. Since the shape of the peaks is related to the joint, however, these peaks can be utilized to estimate the shape of the joints. In this paper, we present preliminary results on estimating the joint shape using the peak data. The results show that the approach is promising, albeit several technical difficulties to overcome.

  • Complex pressure pulsation phenomenon in fuel rails is generated by rapid opening and closing of injectors and it commonly causes undesirable noise. In this study, fluid-structure interaction analyses based on CFD and FEM have been conducted to examine the pulsation damping characteristics for different shapes of fuel rails. It is shown from the present results that the fuel rail with a high aspect ratio rectangular cross section seems to be best in order to reduce the pressure pulsations. It also agrees well with the previous experimental test by Mizuno, K. et al.

  • Recently as the well-being diffuse and the living standard improves. People's demand for an environment lifestyle is gradually on the rise. The major source of the subway running train is rolling noise generated by the surface condition of wheel and rail. In this study, we research trends on the reduction noise level. Further-more, special traffic Ubiquitous helps to environment technical development.

  • Vibrational analysis of slab tracks for HSR(High Speed Rail) is performed in order to find dynamic characteristics and to control noise and vibration for the tracks. Wheel-rail interactive force is included in the analysis by modelling the vehicle and track as an unsprung mass and elastically-supported-double-beam respectively, and both are assumed to be connected by the Hertzian spring. From this study, it has been found that vibration in the track and the force transmitted to the infrastructure could be reduced by controlling elasticity, mass and stiffness of the track supporting system appropriately.

  • Railway rail fastening system is the critical device which gives big influences to not only the vehicle driving stability and the orbit's structural stability against the impulsive load, but also the noise vibration and the ride comfort. As a part of the low-carbon green growth, the importance of the railroad industry is getting highlights on its excellent energy-efficiency and eco-friendliness. However, so far the Korea's domestic rail fastening system technology is not so good and the technical reliance to abroad is very heavy. In this study, we conducted comparative analysis on the rail fastening system with new and used one of the same type. And those systems are imported by Seoul Metro and are being used by it. With this basis, we developed the components and the materials and then, established the durability assessment methods appropriate to the Korean domestic circumstances. And through the reliability qualification test on the 7 parts of the rail fastening system, we've improved the reliability and guaranteed the 15 years of service lifetime. ($B_{10}Life15$) Establishment and standardization of Reliability Standard on the parts of the rail fastening system such as anti-vibration pads, guide-plate, screw spike made it possible to perform the internationally fair assessment. And it is thought that we can satisfy the manufactures' and consumers' needs of cost-cutting and qualification security by shortening of assessment period on rail fastening system.

  • Railroad noise is one of the main causes of environmental impact. Whenever a new railroad line is planned or a housing project near an existing railroad is proposed, an estimate of the relevant noise levels is usually required. For this, it is necessary to quantify those paramters that affect the railroad noise. This paper presents an accurate prediction of railroad noise.

  • This paper presents the development of a condition monitoring system that monitors the operating conditions of a reduction unit, such as the bearing temperature, gearbox vibration, and gear oil deterioration, and notifies the operator of potential problems or abnormal conditions. A series of field tests on high-speed rail and conventional lines was performed to identify the characteristics of temperature rise and vibration levels on the reduction unit during operation. The monitoring system was designed based on the proper sensor selection, measurement method, and signal analysis to optimize the interface with the operating system of high-speed trains. Application of this monitoring system to high-speed trains will play an important role in their proper maintenance and safe operation.
