Polymer Electrolyte Membranes Consisting of PVA-g-POEM Graft Copolymers for Supercapacitors (슈퍼커패시터용 PVA-g-POEM 가지형 공중합체로 구성된 고분자 전해질막)

  • It is a highly important problem for mankind to supply sufficient energy, which has been connected to production and supply of electricity. In terms of the problems, this study fabricated a new sort of solid polymer electrolyte membrane for supercapacitors. The fabricated electrolyte employed grafting poly(oxyethylene methacrylate) (POEM) side chain on poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) main chain by free-radical polymerization. It is the first time to utilize PVA-g-POEM graft copolymer as an electrolyte membrane for supercapacitor. The chain behavior of PVA was transformed by grafting POEM side chains, which was analyzed by FT-IR spectra. Also, the capacitance performances of fabricated supercapacitors were explored by cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge/discharge (GCD), and ragone plot. We suggest a new point, the grafting of the electrolyte of supercapacitor in this study.

Optimal battery selection for hybrid rocket engine

  • In the present paper, the optimal selection of batteries for an electric pump-fed hybrid rocket engine is analyzed. A two-stage Mars Ascent Vehicle, suitable for the Mars Sample Return Mission, is considered as test case. A single engine is employed in the second stage, whereas the first stage uses a cluster of two engines. The initial mass of the launcher is equal to 500 kg and the same hybrid rocket engine is considered for both stages. Ragone plot-based correlations are embedded in the optimization process in order to chose the optimal values of specific energy and specific power, which minimize the battery mass ad hoc for the optimized engine design and ascent trajectory. Results show that a payload close to 100 kg is achievable considering the current commercial battery technology.

  • This study investigated characteristics of ICR18650 batteries with different electrolyte compositions in the range of $80^{\circ}C\~-30^{\circ}C$. ICR18650 cells using $1M\;LiPF_6,\;EC:\;DEC:\;DMC(3:5:5)\;and\; 1M\;LiPF_6,\;EC:\;DEC:\;DMC:\;EMC(3:5:4:1)$ electrolyte systems, which DMC and EMC solvent were added in $1M\;LiPF_6,\;EC:\;DEC$ electrolytes have high specific energy in the wide range of temperature. The specific energy of ICR18650 batteries using $1M\;LiPF_6,\;EC:\;DEC:\;DMC(3:5:5)\;and\; 1M\;LiPF_6,\;EC:\;DEC;\:\;DMC:\;EMC(3:5:4:1)$ electrolyte at $-30^{\circ}C\;was\;64\%\;and\;59\%$ of room temperature$(25^{\circ}C)$, respectively.
