  • The purpose of this study was to analyze radiological technologists' (RT) task perceptions of intravenous injection behavior of contrast medium and use it as basic data for future workforce response plans. We surveyed a total of 172 RT using questionnaire terms consisting of demographic characteristics, job priorities, and RT' task perceptions of intravenous injection behavior. Statistical analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, independent samples T-test, and ANOVA analysis. As a result, first, current clinical RT were highly aware of the need for intravenous injection behavior as a response to the future workforce of them, and the workload burden resulting from this was evaluated as low. Second, the fear of intravenous injection behavior was found to be significant, so it is judged to be useful to perform them as selective job actions rather than all RT' task. Third, the need for training courses and certification for RT' intravenous injection behavior is being raised, and additional specific research on this is required. Last, RT' positive perception of intravenous injection behavior could be expected as a foundation for improving national medical services, strengthening RT expertise, and expanding tasks.

  • This study was conducted to provide a basis for planning Radiological technologists supply and career counseling of college students by investigating the distribution and status of Radiological technologists and expensive medical equipment increased trend in Korea. The data was collected from August to September 2014 through related associations and national agencies. Radiological technologists working in the domestic medical institutions in 2014 were confirmed as a trend that continues to increase over the previous year to a total 18,988 and 37.3 per 100,000 population but the increase number was less than the number of Radiological technician licensee annually. Distribution of expensive medical equipments is as follows: the total number of CT was 1,873 in 2014 decreased compared to the previous year, the total number of MRI and PET was 1,261 and 207 increased over the previous year but the increased width decreased. In the future a variety of jobs and quality improvement of Radiological technician will be needed with a steady workforce monitoring.

  • Background: This study provides an update to a landmark 2004 report describing demographics, training, and trends in adherence to thoracic surgery practice standards in Canada. Methods: An updated questionnaire was administered to all members of the Canadian Association of Thoracic Surgeons via email (n=142, compared to n=68 in 2004). Our report incorporates internal data from Ontario Health and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer. Results: Forty-eight surgeons completed the survey (male, 70.8%; mean±standard deviation age, 50.3±9.3 years). This represents a 33.8% response rate, compared to 64.7% in 2004. Most surgeons (69%) served a patient population of over 1 million per center; 32%-34% reported an on-call ratio of 1:4-1:5 days, and the average weekly hours worked was 56.4±11.9. Greater access to dedicated geographic units per center (73% in 2021 vs. 53% in 2004) has improved thoracic-associated services and house staff, notably endoscopy units (100% vs. 91%), with 73% of respondents having access to both endobronchial and endoscopic ultrasound. Access to thoracic radiology has also improved, particularly regarding positron emission tomography scanners per center (76.9% vs. 13%). Annual case volumes for lung (255 vs. 128), esophageal (41 vs. 19), and mediastinal resections (30 vs. 13), along with hiatal hernia repair (45 vs. 20), have increased substantially despite reports of operating room availability and radiology as rate-limiting steps. Conclusion: This survey characterizes compliance with current practice standards, addressing the needs of thoracic surgeons across Canada. Over 85% of respondents were aware of the 2004 compliance paper, and 35% had applied for resources and equipment in response.

  • Dose distribution of Korean radiation workers classified by occupational categories was analyzed. Statistics of the occupational radiation exposure(ORE) in 2002 of the radiation workers in diagnostic and dental radiology were obtained from the Korea Food and Drug Agency(KFDA) who maintains the database for individual radiation dose records. Corresponding statistics for the rest of radiation workers were obtained by processing the individual annual doses provided by the Korea Radioisotope Association(KRIA) after deletion of individual information. The ORE distribution was classified in term of 28 occupational categories, annual individual dose levels, age groups and gender of 52733 radiation workers as of the year of 2002. The total collective dose was 66.4 man-Sv and resulting average individual ORE was 1.26 mSv. Around 80% of the workers were exposed to minimal doses less than 1.2 mSv. However, it appeared that the recorded doses exceeded 20 mSv for 43 workers in the industrial radiography and for 147 workers in the field of radiology. Particularly, recorded doses of 23 workers in radiology exceeded the annual dose limits of 50 mSv, which is extraordinary when the working environment is considered. It is uncertain whether those doses are real or caused by careless placing of dosimeters in the imaging rooms while the X-ray units are in operation. No one in the workforce of 16 operating nuclear power plant units was exposed over 20 mSv in 2002. Number of workers was the largest in their 30's of age and the mean individual dose was the highest in their 20's. Women were around 20% of the radiation workers and their average dose was around one half of that of man workers.

  • To prevent over supplying of workforce with radiologic technologist license, effort to create new jobs related to radioactive from medical field and radiation-related academia should be put first. For this, investigating present condition is required by close analysis of working force supply related to radiation. Therefore in this research, basic data useful for developing future radiation-related policy and plan is provided from analysis of present supplying condition of radiologic technologists in Korea. Results are as following. First, number of people qualified as radiologic technologists consistently increased; 15,639 more people took the license in 2014 compared with 2004, showing growth rate of 75.6%. Second, about 65.7%, most of workforce related to radiation engaged in medical area. Third, estimating supply and demand of radiologic technologists by time period of 5 years from 2015 to 2040, about 6,000 number of surplus work force was predicted around 2020. Fourth, satisfaction of graduates who majored in radiology was quite low for their first occupation. These results implicate necessity of systemic supplementation which can expand medical areas where radiologic technologists can work.
