Objective : This study was conducted to determine an association between aortic calcification viewed on plain chest radiography and obstructive coronary artery disease. Method : Retrospective review of all chest radiography obtained from consecutive patients undergoing coronary angiography. Chest PA images were reviewed by technical radiologist and radiologist. Considering the presence of aortic arch calcification, images were compared with the results of coronary angiography. In addition, the size of aortic arch calcification were divided into two groups - the smaller and the larger than 10 mm. Results : Among the total 846 patients, the number of the patients with obstructive coronary artery disease is total 417 (88.3%) in males and 312 (83.4%) in females. Considering the presence of aortic arch calcification, the positive predictive value of relation between aortic arch calcification and obstructive coronary artery disease was 91.4% and the relative risk of the group with aortic arch calcification to the opposite group was 1.10. According to the size of aortic arch calcification and obstructive coronary artery disease, the positive predictive value was 91.9% and the relative risk between two groups was 1.04. Conclusions : This study shows that aortic calcification was closely associated with obstructive coronary artery disease. If the aortic calcification is notified on plain chest radiography, we strongly recommend to consult with doctor.

Diagnosing breast diseases using ultrasound (US) images remains challenging because it is time-consuming and requires expert radiologist knowledge. As a result, the diagnostic performance is significantly biased. To assist radiologists in this process, computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems have been developed and used in practice. This type of system is used not only to assist radiologists in examining breast ultrasound images (BUS) but also to ensure the effectiveness of the diagnostic process. In this study, we propose a new approach for breast lesion localization and segmentation using a multi-scale pyramid of the ultrasound image of a breast organ and a convolutional semantic segmentation network. Unlike previous studies that used only a deep detection/segmentation neural network on a single breast ultrasound image, we propose to use multiple images generated from an input image at different scales for the localization and segmentation process. By combining the localization/segmentation results obtained from the input image at different scales, the system performance was enhanced compared with that of the previous studies. The experimental results with two public datasets confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed approach by producing superior localization/segmentation results compared with those obtained in previous studies.
Contrast medium is a useful drug for radiological examinations and usability of it gradually increases while it has some inevitable adverse reaction and it is difficult to predict the occurrence and the degree of adverse reactions. Although the patient consented permission for the use of contrast media, the hospital could not be exempted from the responsibility for the adverse contrast media reaction. During radiological contrast media examination, the radiologist and the contrast media producer have the duty of precaution, prediction and avoid adverse results. In addition, they have reliabi lity of patient remedy for neglecting the duty. Since contrast medium are manufactured or processed as movable properties, the manufacturers are bound to the product liability if damages occur due to the defects in pharmaceuticals. In consideration of the characteristics of product liability, it is necessary to demand high degree of duty of care and diligence from producer or to reduce patient's burden of proof in a product liability lawsuit. For securing compensation ability and liability implementation, products compensation liability insurance is required for contrast medium manufacturers. In conclusion, contrast medium producer has legal liability for adverse reactions and the contract concluded with producer and hospital including legal liability will reduce liability of hospital and radiologist, patient.
Our purpose is to specify behavior and environmental factors aimed at reducing the exposed dosage caused by PET-CT and to develop radiation safety management guidelines adequate for domestic circumstances. We have used a multistep-multimethod as the methodological approach to design and to carry out the research both in quality and quantity, including an analysis on previous studies, professional consultations and a survey. The survey includes responses from 139 practitioners in charged of 109 PET-CTs installed throughout Korea(reported by the Korean Society of Nuclear Medicine, 2010). The research use 156 questions using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ (alpha) coefficients which were: 0.818 for "the necessity of setting and installing the radiation protective environment"; 0.916 for "the necessity of radiation protection", "setting and installing the radiation protective environment"; and 0.885 for "radiation protection". The check list, derived from the radiation safety management guidelines focused on behavior and environment, was composed of 20 items for the radiation protective environment: including 5 items for the patient; 4 items for the guardian; 3 items for the radiologist; and 8 items applied to everyone involved; for a total of 26 items for the radiation protective behavior including: 12 items for the patient; 1 item for the guardian, 7 items for the radiologist; and 6 items applied to everyone involved. The specific check list is shown in(Table 5-6). Since our country has no safety management guidelines of its own to reduce the exposed dosage caused by PET-CTs, we believe the guidelines developed through this study means great deal to the field as it is not only appropriate for domestic circumstances, but also contains specific check lists for each target who may be exposed to radiation in regards to behavior and environment.
The paper focuses on conception and development of complex systems composed mainly by a pump syringe subsystem and an electronically injector that facilitates patients saving data operation for medical staff use. We successfully developed conventional approaches for medical system staff requirements, such as system boundary conditions. Decisions at a given level are studied. We propose a complex system architecture, based mainly on patients collected data and ordered stepper injection parameters. System is successfully simulated and prototyped. Design and implement tests are accomplished, the proposed system ensures both the electric syringe pump and the electric injector operation. In addition, this new system introduces several additional options as patient database development and automation injection operation. Development and software operating tests to create a visualization control interface are validated. The solution performs syringe function and electronic injector. User can manage a syringe in two C modes of technology. We propose a program composed of two linked parts. If an error such radiologist bad target selection is made, an image with lower intrinsic quality emerges. Developed Shoot syringe different electronic cards are simulated and prototyped, in addition, maps are driven, prototype. All tests results are accomplished.
In this study, we surveyed the increasing rate of the licensed medical technicians from the year of 1970 to 2003 in Korea along with the investigation of the growth ratio by sex and fields among the licensed medical technicians. On the basis of this survey, this study aims to provide a milestone for the further studies to resolve the problems arising from asymmetry of sex ratio in some specific fields of medical technicians and oversupply of the in-service technicians. The results show that in contrast to the year 1970, the whole growth rate was 59.46%, males 28.98%, females 285.21%. In the case of sex ratio, in 1970 the figure of males to females was 6.63 to 1 but the figure of 2003 was 0.67 to 1, which indicates the number of female technicians are badly increasing. Until 2003, the ratio of female technicians was higher than the male technicians in the fields of medical technologists, physical therapists, dental hygienists, occupational therapists, medical record technicians but in radiologist technological, dental technicians and opticians the ratio was reversed.

In the field of Radiology, the Computer Aided Diagnosis is the technology which gives valuable information for surgical purpose. For its importance, several computer vison methods are processed to obtain useful information of images acquired from the imaging devices such as X-ray, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT). These methods, called pattern recognition, extract features from images and feed them to some machine learning algorithm to find out meaningful patterns. Then the learned machine is then used for exploring patterns from unseen images. The radiologist can therefore easily find the information used for surgical planning or diagnosis of a patient through the Computer Aided Diagnosis. In this paper, we present a review on three widely-used methods applied to Computer Aided Diagnosis. The first one is the image processing methods which enhance meaningful information such as edge and remove the noise. Based on the improved image quality, we explain the second method called segmentation which separates the image into a set of regions. The separated regions such as bone, tissue, organs are then delivered to machine learning algorithms to extract representative information. We expect that this paper gives readers basic knowledges of the Computer Aided Diagnosis and intuition about computer vision methods applied in this area.
In this paper, we proposed the detection algorithm of microcalcification based on region growing method with contrast and edge sharpness in digital X-ray mammographic images. We extracted the local maximum pixel and watershed regions by using watershed algorithm. Then, we used the mean slope between local maximum and neighborhood pixels to extract microcalcification candidate pixels among local maximum pixels. During increasing threshold value to grow microcalcification region, at the maximum threshold value of the contrast and edge sharpness, the microcalcification area is decided. The regions of which area of grown candidate microcalfication region is larger than that of watershed region are excluded from microcalcifications. We showed the diagnosis algorithm can be used to aid diagnostic-radiologist in the early detection breast cancer.
Modern medicine has not yet conquered behavior therapy for cancer radiation treatment, which is one of the professional groups involved in the justification of the act and reasonable human resources was analyzed. Radiation Oncology(Therapeutic Radiology) installed the role of the medical physicist in the current law, the act must have been within the limits given licenses, but the legitimacy of the act which can be given the current laws and regulations are not clear. Thus, certification and testing outside the medical physicist's research institutions, including the measures to be reflected in national legislation sought. Medical physicists, with the inherent illegality act because one of the areas to precluding the illegality of the content-based "medical law" and "Nuclear Safety Law", "medical technology in the field of radiation safety standards on management" was based on the interpretation. In conclusion, "medical law" and "in the field of medical technology on the management of radiation safety standards" that are consistent with the recognition of qualifications, increased activity in the radiation therapy and radiation safety management must deal with this will be feasible.

Background: Renal size is an important indicator in the diagnosis of renal diseases and urinary tract infections in children. Purpose: The purpose of this study is twofold. First, it aimed to measure the renal length and calculate the renal volume of normal Thai children using 2-dimensional ultrasonography (2D-US) and study their correlations with somatic parameters. Second, it aimed to compare the age-specific renal size of normal Thai children with the published data of their Western and Chinese counterparts. Methods: A total of 321 children (150 boys, 171 girls; age, 6-15 years) with a normal renal profile were prospectively recruited. All subjects underwent 2D-US by an experienced pediatric radiologist and the renal length, width, and depth were measured. Renal volume was calculated using the ellipsoid formula as recommended. The data were compared between the left and right kidneys, the sexes, and various somatic parameters. The age-specific renal lengths were compared using a nomogram derived from a Western cohort that is currently referred by many Thailand hospitals, while the renal volumes were compared with the published data of a Chinese cohort. Results: No statistically significant difference (P<0.05) was found between sexes or the right and left kidneys. The renal sizes had strong correlations with height, weight, body surface area, and age but not with body mass index. The renal length of the Thai children was moderately correlated (r=0.59) with that of the Western cohort, while the age-specific renal volume was significantly smaller (P<0.05) than that of the Chinese children. Conclusion: Therefore, we concluded that the age-specific renal length and volume obtained by 2D-US would vary between children in different regions and may not be suitably used as an international standard for diagnosis, although further studies may be needed to confirm our findings.
