  • This study was conducted to serve as a basis for education by identifying the correlation of college admission type, college-life satisfaction and academic achievement of radiologic science students. Data were collected from 2 universities and 2 colleges located in Gyeonggi Provice, North Chungcheong Province, North Gyeongsang Province. A total of 371 questionnaires were collected, 363 of which were included in this study. The results showed that there were no differences in academic achievement according to the type of college admission. It could be able to interpret that since department of radiologic science is popular, students with high academic records applies the department of radiologic science and there are less deviation of academic records among students. A correlation analysis of academic achievement showed learning attitude is a statistically valid factor. Learning attitudes can be changed by exposure to the environment. This will require a variety of program development for improving learning attitudes. In addition, academic achievement of radiologic science students is associated with license acquisition. It need to be made together research on determinants and development of learning method to improve the learning attitude.

  • Highly sensitive $CaSO_4:Tm$ TLD is fabricated and their trap parameters are determined. The glow curve of $CaSO_4:Tm$ consists of three glow peaks and these peaks are isolated by the thermal bleaching method. The isolated glow peaks are fitted by a least squares method. The activation energies are 0.68, 0.82 and 1.03 eV. The frequency factors are $8.09{\times}10^8,\;9.14{\times}10^8$ and $1.03{\times}10^9/s$, and the kinetic orders are 1.37, 1.54 and 1.68, respectively. The optimum temperature range of the main peak for radiation dosimetry is between 220 and $290^{\circ}C$.

  • It is recommended that the door of control room is closed during radiography to protect a radiologic technologist. However, for those patients such as of emergency or pediatrics, the door must be kept open unavoidably to apply immediate medical administration and treatment on the potential case of emergency which could be happened through the course of radiography. In addition, it could be efficient by reducing patients waiting time when the door is open for a general case. This study was conducted to evaluate practical exposure rate to a radiologic technologist when the door is open during the radiography, and to find out the ways to minimize radiation exposure and to increase the efficiency simultaneously. Measuring practical exposure rate was fulfilled with glass dosimeter, and it was 2.02 mGy/week at the location of radiologic technologist under the condition that the door is open during the radiography, which was about 2.3 times higher than the 100 mR/week. It means that the considerable amount of scattered rays through the door opening, and increase exposure rate at the radiologic technologist. Hence we confirmed that a radiologic technologist probably overexposed if the door is open during the radiography. It was also confirmed by the Monte Carlo simulation that the exposure rate could be reduced up to approximately 1/100 by change only the door opening direction. In conclusion, since the proper door opening direction provides same shielding effect whether it is open or close, the door opening direction need to be considered when it is installed at radiography facilities.

  • The aim of this study is to assess the dose reduction of eye lens and availability of bismuth garments resulting from the use of radioprotective bismuth garments to shield the eyes of patients undergoing head CT. Rando phantom and TLDs were used to determine the amount of dose reduction by bismuth shielding of the eye in the following simulated CT scans : (a) scanning of the head including orbits, (b) scanning of the whole head, and (c) $20^{\circ}$ angled scanning of the head excluding orbits. The average dose reduction of eye lens was 43.2%, 36.0% and 1.4% for the three CT scans listed above. Significant reduction in the eye lens dose was achieved by using superficial orbital bismuth shielding during head CT scans. However, bismuth shields should not be used for the patients when their eyes are excluded from the primarily exposed region.

  • Noise evaluation for an image has been performed by root mean square (RMS) granularity, autocorrelation function (ACF), and Wiener spectrum. RMS granularity stands for standard deviation of photon data and ACF is acquired by integration of 1 D function of distance variation. Fourier transform of ACF results in noise power spectrum which is called Wiener spectrum in image quality evaluation. Wiener spectrum represents noise itself. In addition, along with MTF, it is an important factor to produce detective quantum efficiency (DQE). The proposed evaluation method using Wiener spectrum is expected to contribute to educate the concept of Wiener spectrum in educational organizations, choose the appropriate imaging detectors for clinical applications, and maintain image quality in digital imaging systems.

  • Performance of SPECT imaging systems which use a rotating gamma camera, are affected by characteristics of the detector-collimator assembly, the data acquisition method, and the filter used in imaging reconstruction. The purpose of this study Is to examine image qualifies of SPECT with different types of low energy collimators. The SPECT imaging system in this study is a digital gamma camera system GCA-901A(Toshiba) and a data processing unit Scintipac-700(Shimadzu). The four types of collimators compared are UHR(ultra high resolution), LEHR(low energy high resolution), LEGP(low energy general purpose), and I-123 PAR(Parallel), with 0.27, 0.66, 1.00, and 2.06 relative sensitivity, respectively. In this case of the same collimators, the spatial resolutions measured in the slice plane showed a slight difference in the FWHM values(mean values of UHR, LEHR, LEGP, and I-123 PAR were 11.3 mm, 13.6 mm, 15.8 mm, and 20.4 mm, respectively) between the center and the circumference of the field of view, in the radial direction, but a large difference in the tangential direction, with lower FWHM values(values of UHR, LEHR, LEGP, and I-123 PAR were 8.4 mm, 8.7 mm, 9.3 mm, and 10.8 mm at 12 cm from the center, respectively). In comparison of SPECT images with the four types of collimators, except for the I-123 PAR collimator, image qualities of UHR, LEHR, and LEGP collimators showed only a slight difference. From the point of for, it is expected that the LEGP collimator would be suitable for SPECT imaging with $^{99m}Tc$.

  • The purpose of the present study is to find ways to reduce the quantity of indoor radon contamination. The study was done from July, 2005 until December, 2005. It was found out that the easiest and most effective way to do that is to open the windows as often as possible and let the indoor air flow outside. When it is not possible to ventilate a room, the indoor radon contamination quantity can reduced by providing activated charcoal in the room. It has been proved that activated charcoal can absorb the room in the air. We need more activated charcoal in proportion to the size of the room. A further research is needed to investigate the amount of activated charcoal that will work most effectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation between radiation information sources and major selection satisfaction in radiologic science students of Korean and American. The subjects of this study were first-grade and second-grade at one university in Chungbuk, Korea and one university in Texas, USA. The survey study investigated from May 7, 2019 to May 28, 2019. As a result, first, these college students in both countries used the internet the most as them, but the percentage of information collected through textbooks was significantly higher among American college students. Second, Korean college students had a higher level of reliability in information sources than American college students in the order of internet, newspapers, and social network service (SNS), except government prints. Third, American college students had significantly higher satisfaction in major selection than Korean college students. Fourth, Korean college students were helped to select majors through various information sources, especially, the correlation coefficient between SNS was significantly higher.
