  • Purpose: Pycnodysostosis (PYCD), an autosomal recessive syndrome, is characterized by an imbalance in bone remodeling that produces various clinical and radiographic craniofacial manifestations. This review represents a systematic examination of these manifestations, as well as oral features associated with PYCD. Materials and Methods: A systematic review was conducted across 8 databases from February to March 2023. The search strategy focused on studies reporting cases of PYCD that examined the clinical and radiographic craniofacial and oral characteristics associated with this syndrome. Results: The review included 84 studies, encompassing a total of 179 cases of PYCD. More than half of the patients were female (55.3%), and the mean age was 14.7 years. Parental consanguinity was reported in 51.4% of the cases. The most common craniofacial clinical manifestation was a prominent nose, observed in 57.5% of cases. Radiographically, the most frequently reported craniofacial characteristics included the presence of an obtuse mandibular angle (84.3%) and frontal cranial bosses(82.1%). Clinical and radiographic examinations revealed oral alterations, with micrognathia present in 62.6% of patients and malocclusion in 59.2%. Among dental anomalies, tooth agenesis was the most commonly reported, affecting 15.6% of patients. Conclusion: Understanding the clinical and radiographic craniofacial features of PYCD is crucial for dental professionals. This knowledge enables these clinicians to devise effective treatment plans and improve patient quality of life.

  • Purpose: This study aims to compare patients in whom fixation failure occurred via cut-out (CO) or cut-through (CT) in order to determine patient factors and radiographic parameters that may be predictive of each mechanism. Materials and Methods: This retrospective cohort study includes 18 patients with intertrochanteric (IT) hip fractures (AO/OTA classification 31A1.3) who underwent treatment using a single lag screw design intramedullary nail in whom fixation failure occurred within one year. All patients were reviewed for demographics and radiographic parameters including tip-to-apex distance (TAD), posteromedial calcar continuity, neck-shaft angle, lateral wall thickness, and others. Patients were grouped into cohorts based on the mechanism of failure, either lag screw CO or CT, and a comparison was performed. Results: No differences in demographics, injury details, fracture classifications, or radiographic parameters were observed between CO/CT cohorts. Of note, a similar rate of post-reduction TAD>25 mm (P=0.936) was observed between groups. A higher rate of DEXA (dual energy X-ray absorptiometry) confirmed osteoporosis (25.0% vs. 60.0%) was observed in the CT group, but without significance. Conclusion: The mechanism of CT failure during intramedullary nail fixation of an IT fracture did not show an association with clinical data including patient demographics, reduction accuracy, or radiographic parameters. As reported in previous biomechanical studies, the main predictive factor for patients in whom early failure might occur via the CT effect mechanism may be related to bone quality; however, conduct of larger studies will be required in order to determine whether there is a difference in bone quality.

  • Purpose : To determine whether there is a relationship between abnormal temporomandibular joint radiographic findings and age or gender in a sample of preorthodontic patients. Materials and Methods : Individualized corrected sagittal tomographs of 188 temporomandibular joints in 94 preorthodontic patients, aged 11 to 29 years, were taken and viewed by an observer blinded to clinical records. The study population was divided into 2 aged groups (11-15 years and 16-29 years) for comparative purposes. Temporomandibular joint radiographic findings were classified as normal or abnormal. Results: There was no difference in ratio of abnormal to normal findings between the both aged groups. The frequency of osseous abnormalities was similar with that of abnormalities of condylar position. Abnormalities in CP and JS were most frequent in all aged groups. Conclusion : There is no significant difference between ages or genders for temporomandibular joint radiographic abnormalities.

  • This paper presents the development of the automatic safety inspection technique for the ammunition fuzes using radiography images. The technique inspects 49-ammunition fuze by detecting the X-ray or neutron radiographic images to check whether the fuze is unintendedly armed or/and some major assembled parts are at right place. To execute the program, we loads the image(s) for under test. After reading images, the program conducts a series of pre-image processing, and then starts inspecting input images by using the detection algorithms which are designed distinctively for each fuze. After completing the detection process, the program displays the final result of the fuze status: "safety or danger." Through this program, we can cut off the fuzes which have any doubt about safety, and can only provide absolutely safe fuzes, compared with the current naked eye inspection method.

  • Purpose: To investigate the effect of heel elevation on the radiographic parameters of the forefoot. Materials and Methods: Forty feet in twenty-one adults were studied. Weight bearing dorsoplantar radiograph was taken with the foot on a flat surface and with the heel of the foot elevated by 5cm. Various parameters were measured and compared between the results with and without heel elevation. Result: The hallux valgus angle was increased by $5.0{\pm}3.5$ degrees with heel elevation and the change was statistically significant(p<0.01). There was no statistically significant changes in the other parameters. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that high-heeled shoes might contribute in causing or aggravating the degrees of the hallux valgus.

  • One day to one week-old 3 female Korean native calves were referred to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Chonbuk National University, with atresia ani. The authors performed radiographic and ultrasonographic diagnosis with physical examination, general hematology and blood chemical examination as investigation. The atresia ani were type I, II, III in each 3 calves. In abdominal radiography and ultrasonography, there were ventral displacement of descending colon(gas and feces filled) and typical enlargement of the blind end of colon in all cases. Operation site was determined by radiographic and ultrasonographic findings in these cases. Surgical treatment, two cases were translocation of the colon to the body wall exiting as a colostomy and one case was corrected by making a circumcision through the skin covering the site of the anus.

  • There are two basic concepts in industrial radiographic examination; one is a radio-graphic sensitivity, and the other is a acceptance criteria. The comparison of these main points are studied for KS Standard and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. From the results of the experiment, higher radiographic sensitivity is required in KS Standard when the thickness of material to be examined is less than 20mm in single wall technique. The acceptance criteria for linear type indications are described on same concept in two standards, whereas the acceptance criteria for rounded indications of KS Standard which mainly depends upon the object thickness are more severe than those of ASME BPV Code.

  • The purpose of this report is to describe the radiographic patterns of canine gastric dilatation-volvulus syndrome derived from a case. Radiographs showed the presence of a large amount of gas, fluid and ingesta within the stomach. The gas-filled pyloric antrum was present in the left cranial abdomen in the ventrodorsal view, and located dorsal and slightly cranial to the gas-filled fundus of the stomach in the right lateral recumbent and standing lateral view. On the right lateral recumbent view, the gas-filled stomach was compartmentalized by a soft-tissue dense band caused by the pyloric antral wall folding back and contacting the fundic wall. It was thought that the gastric volvulus in this case occurred In a clock. wise direction by radiographic findings.
