In order to predict the thermal radiation induced from alumina particle cloud in the plume of solid propellant motor, view factor method is applied to space shuttle SRB and the result is compared with that of monte carlo method. For this purpose, radiative characteristics, such as particle cloud temperature distribution, effective emissivity or emissive power of particle cloud are studied. In the case of effective emissivity, inverse wavelength method is applied and plume reduction characteristic length is used for emissive power distribution. As a result, thermal radiation using view factor method gives more conservative results than that using monte carlo method. So it can be used for preliminary design of thermal protection system.

Since experiments on the actual operational status are said to be very impractical because of their economic and repeatability problems, it is difficult to understand the thermal profiles of aerospace or military equipments. Thus, the CFD codes with considering the radiation heat transfer are used to compensate the defect. In case, analyzing the radiation exchanges between the object surfaces are very important. Because the temperature and the IR signal distributions of the object surface are significantly affected by the radiative heat transfer. To achieve accurate thermal radiation exchange between surfaces, it is important to calculate the radiation view factor precisely. Finer subdivision of meshes can be used to increase the accuracy of radiation view factor, but if the mesh is subdivided infinitely, the time required for calculation increases significantly and thus decreasing the efficiency. If the subdivision is not sufficient, assurance of accuracy is not guaranteed. In this paper, optimal mesh subdivision method using the solid angle has been successfully tested and found to be useful in increasing the efficiency of calculating the shape factors.

View factor determination is very important in thermal analysis problems with surface radiation but it is very difficult to determine view factors for complex geometries. Exact calculation of view factors for crystal growth furnace is essential due to not only its high surface temperature but the radiation shield, complicated heating system. In this study, view factor calculation algorithm is introduced and applied to cylindrical crystal growth furnace. This algorithm is based on the Hemi-Cube Algorithm and the results obtained with this algorithm show good agreements with those of analytical solution. As an application of this algorithm, temperature profiles and heating value distributions for various furnaces are calculated and the shape criteria for better furnace are suggested.
The purpose of this paper is to find a visible project area for an average six year old Korean child in radiant enclosures having standing pose. The results using this method will be necessary to find effective radiation area, effective radiation area factor, form factor, and mean radiant temperature for an average six years old Korean child consists of 3012 triangles. The methods to find visible project area of an average six years old Korean at arbitrary view point will be presented. The visible project area for Korean child is needed for evaluating thermal comfort for six years old Korean child. The biggest visible project area of an average six years old Korean is $\textrm{cm}^2$$2.061.0\textrm{cm}^2$ at the view point of alfa 0.0 degree and beta 0.0 degree, and the smallest visible real area of an average six years old Korean is $567.1\textrm{cm}^2$ at the view point of alfa 15.0 degree and beta 90.0 degree.
To analyze the observation environment of solar radiation stations operated by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), we analyzed the skyline, Sky View Factor (SVF), and solar radiation due to the surrounding topography and artificial structures using a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), 3D camera, and solar radiation model. Solar energy shielding of 25 km around the station was analyzed using 10 m resolution DEM data and the skyline elevation and SVF were analyzed by the surrounding environment using the image captured by the 3D camera. The solar radiation model was used to assess the contribution of the environment to solar radiation. Because the skyline elevation retrieved from the DEM is different from the actual environment, it is compared with the results obtained from the 3D camera. From the skyline and SVF calculations, it was observed that some stations were shielded by the surrounding environment at sunrise and sunset. The topographic effect of 3D camera is therefore more than 20 times higher than that of DEM throughout the year for monthly accumulated solar radiation. Due to relatively low solar radiation in winter, the solar radiation shielding is large in winter. Also, for the annual accumulated solar radiation, the difference of the global solar radiation calculated using the 3D camera was 176.70 MJ (solar radiation with 7 days; suppose daily accumulated solar radiation 26 MJ) on an average and a maximum of 439.90 MJ (solar radiation with 17.5 days).

The radiator of the data storage and handling units onboard the earth observation satellite is a groove-type radiator covered with a shield because of the periodic high heat dissipation and design characteristics of arrangement and mountability of the unit. The effect of the groove-type radiator and that of the shield versus plane radiator were verified through the thermal vacuum test. Through the test result, the temperatures of the radiator and the heat exchange due to the view factor were analyzed by using the analytical method. Conclusively the thermal performance of the shield dissipation plate was verified.

Parallelism and performance enhancement of calculating view factors in KSDS developed by KARI is introduced in this paper. View factor is an essential parameters of radiation thermal analysis for a spacecraft, and the amount of computation of them is not negligible. Especially, independent integration of view factors at each position of the orbit because the relative displace between solar panel and main body of a satellite varies with the position on the orbit. This paper introduces a range of parallelism of computing view factor and their performance, detection of obstructions by spatial search algorithm based on KD-Tree, and the reduction of the calculation of view factors of a satellite with relative motion between solar panel and main body, called updating fractional view factor matrix, for satellite thermal analysis.
Analysis has been carried out to investigate the temperature variation and the uniformity of the temperature distribution of the glass panel by infrared radiant heating. Halogen lamps are used to heat the panel and located near the top and bottom of the rectangular chamber. The thermal energy is transfered only by radiation and the radiation exchange occurs only on the solid surfaces and is considered by using the view factor. The results show that the uniformity of the temperature distribution of the panel is improved but the time for heating increases as the wall reflectivity is large. The temperature difference reaches a maximum in the early stage of the heating process and then decreases until it reaches the uniform steady-state value.

For the $ViewRay^{(R)}$ system (ViewRay Inc., Cleveland, OH, USA) which is representative of magnetic resonance (MR) guided radiotherapy machine, it is important to evaluate effectiveness of AAPM's TG-51 protocol and the effect of the magnetic field on absolute dosimetry. In order to measure the absolute dose, MR-compatible chamber and water phantom system manufactured in this study were used. The materials of the water phantom system were plastic of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and non-ferrous materials. Due to the inherent feature of the $ViewRay^{(R)}$, all Co-60 sources are not located at gantry angle of $0^{\circ}$ while being located at gantry angle of $90^{\circ}$. For this reason, absolute dosimetry was performed based on the measurements in solid water phantom (SWP) and water which determine the SWP to water correction factor. For evaluation of output constancy with gantry angle, measurements were made with ionization chamber inserted in cylindrical water-equivalent phantom. For measured doses in water, the values of dose deviation according to a reference dose of 200 cGy for Head 1, Head 2 and Head 3 were -0.27%, -0.45% and -0.22%, respectively. For measured doses in SWP, the values of dose deviation according to a reference dose of 200 cGy for Head 1, Head 2 and Head 3 were -1.91%, -2.07% and -1.84%, respectively. All values of dose measured in SWP tended to be less than those measured in water by -1.63%. With the reference gantry angles of $0^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$, the maximum values of deviation for Head 1, Head 2 and Head 3 were 0.48%, 1.06% and 0.40%, respectively. The measurement agreement is within the range of results obtainable for conventional treatment machines. The low strength of the magnetic field does not affect dose measurements. Using the SWP to water correction factor, absolute doses for $ViewRay^{(R)}$ system can be measured.

To optimize a heating and cooling system, we need an exact solution lot radiant heat transfer in any form of room or building. This paper describes the solution method of view factor by the area weighted average and graphical method to calculate the radiant heat exchange or daylighting level in any form of room or building. This study shows that the area weighted average and graphical methods have many points of merits(calculation speed, correctness and calculation capability in an arbitrary form of room shapes etc.) compared with existing methods
