Experiments were done for the three dimensional unsteady flow in a counter-rotating axial flow fan under peak efficiency operating condition. Flow fields in a counter rotating axial flow fan were measured at cross-sectional planes of the upstream and downstream of each rotor. Cross sectional flow patterns were investigated through the acquired data by the 45$^{\circ}$ inclined hot-wire. Flow characteristics such as tip vortex, secondary flow and tip leakage flow were confirmed through axial, radial and tangential velocity vector plot. It has been found that the radial and tangential velocity components disappeared, while the axial velocity component highly increased as soon as the tip vortex was generated. It has been observed that secondary flow and turbulence intensity which were increased by the front rotor were dissipated passing through the rear rotor. As the result the energy loss of the counter rotating axial flow fan decreased at the downstream of rear rotor. Also, it has been verified that tip vortex pattern of the rear rotor was dampened because the tip vortex generated by front rotor was mixed with that of the rear rotor.

Burner of Flat Flame type expects the uniform flame distribution and NOx reduction. The characteristics of Flat Flame Burner become different according to swirl number in the burner throat. Experiments were focused on swirl effect by four types of swirler with different swirl numbers (0, 0.26, 0.6 and 1.24). It shows many different flow patterns according to swirl number using PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) method. The flow of burner with swirler is recirculated by pressure difference between its center and outside. Recirculated air makes stable in flame, and reduced pollutant gas. In case of swirl number 0, main flow passes through axial direction. As swirl number increased, The backward flow develops in the center part of burner and Flow gas recirculates. This is caused by radial flow momentum becomes larger than axial flow by swirled air and the pressure at center drops against surrounding. As swirl number increases, the radial and axial velocity was confirmed to be larger than low swirl numbers. And turbulence intensity have similar pattern. The CTRZ(Central Toroidal Recirculation Zone) is shown evidently when y/D=1 and S=1.24. The boundary-layer between main flow and recirculated flow is shown that the width is seen to be decreased as swirl number increased.

In-process diagnosis of the cutting state is essential for the automation of manufacturing systems. Especially when the cutting process becomes unstable it induces self-exited vibrations a frequent case of poor tool life rough surface finish damage to the workpiece and the machine tool itself and excessive down time. To ensure that the cutting process main-tains stable it is highly desirable to have the capability of real-time. To ensure that the cutting process main-tains stable it is highly desirable to have the capability of real-time monitoring and controlling chatter. This paper describes the detection method of chatter vibration using cutting force in turning process. In order to detect a chatter vibra-tion the dynamic fluctuation of radial force is analyzed since this components is sensitive to the chatter. The envelope sig-nal of radial force has been calculated by the use of FIR Hilbert transformer and it was useful to classify the chatter signal from the dynamically unstable circumstances. It was found that the mode and the mode width were closely correlated with the chatter amplitude was well. Finally back propagation(BP) neural network have been applied to the pattern recognition for the classification of chatter signal in various cutting conditions. The validity of this systed was confirmed by the experiments under the various cutting conditions.

In this paper, we propose Two-Dimensional Robust Face Recognition System Realized with the Aid of Facial Symmetry with Illumination Variation. Preprocessing process is carried out to obtain mirror image which means new image rearranged by using difference between light and shade of right and left face based on a vertical axis of original face image. After image preprocessing, high dimensional image data is transformed to low-dimensional feature data through 2-directional and 2-dimensional Principal Component Analysis (2D)2PCA, which is one of dimensional reduction techniques. Polynomial-based Radial Basis Function Neural Network pattern classifier is used for face recognition. While FCM clustering is applied in the hidden layer, connection weights are defined as a linear polynomial function. In addition, the coefficients of linear function are learned through Weighted Least Square Estimation(WLSE). The Structural as well as parametric factors of the proposed classifier are optimized by using Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO). In the experiment, Yale B data is employed in order to confirm the advantage of the proposed methodology designed in the diverse illumination variation

Present study visualized flow pattern and investigated spray characteristics of twin-fluid atomization with converging-diverging nozzles. Particle sizes were measured by using the Malvern particle analyzer, and the radial size distributions were evaluated by using the tomographic transform technique. The results show that the SMD generally increases in the radial direction at a prescribed liquid flow rate and the increasing rate in the SMD becomes gradual as atomizing gas pressure increases. The SMD decreases as the liquid flow rate increases at a fixed GLR (gas/liquid mass ratio). The atomization performance of the protrusion-type nozzle turned out to be superior to that of the flush-type. However, in the case of the protrusion-type, flow separation occurs outside the liquid delivery tube when the pressure at the gas nozzle chamber is high enough, which may deteriorate the atomization performance.

The three-dimensional orientation distribution function of a conical shaped tungsten liner prepared by the thermo-mechanical forming process was analyzed by 1.525$\AA$ neutrons to carry out the Rietveld refinement. The pole figure data of three reflections, (110)(220) and (211) were measured. The orientation distribution functions for the normal and radial directions were calculated by the WIMV method. The inverse pole figures of the normal and radial directions were obtained from their orientation distribution functions. The Rietveld refinement was performed with the RIETAN program that was slightly modified for the description of preferred orientation effect. We could successfully do the Rietveld refinement of the strongly textured tungsten liner by applying the pole density of each reflection obtained from the inverse pole figure to the calculated diffraction pattern. The correction method of preferred orientation effect based on the inverse pole figures showed a good improvement over the semi-empirical texture correction based on the direct usage of simple empirical functions.
In echinoderms, the SALMFamide neuropeptides sharing the SxL/FxFamide motif seem widespread throughout the phylum and may be important signalling molecules that mediate various physiological functions. Recent identification of S1 and its analogues, MagS3 and MagS4, along with the S2 analogue, MagS2 from the starfish $Marthasterias$$glacialis$, indicated that SALMFamides in the class Asteroidea are more diverse than previously thought. Further, isolation of the neuropeptides from the radial nerve cord and studies on pharmacological actions of the neuropeptides on the cardiac stomach warrant studies on the tissue distributions of these peptides in both the nervous and digestive systems. In the present study, antisera raised against an S1 analogue, KYSALMFamide, and an S2 analogue, KYSGLTFamide, were used to localize the distribution patterns of the S1- and S2-like immunoreactivities (S1-IR/S2-IR) in the nervous and digestive systems of the starfish. In the nervous system, cell bodies in the ectoneural part were immunostained for both S1 and S2 peptides, while in the digestive system, the basiepithelial plexus and mucosal cell bodies were immunoreactive. These immunocytochemical data support the notion that the SALMFamides may play a neuroendocrine role in mediating feeding behaviour of the starfish. Further studies including identification of peptide binding sites and differential expression pattern of mRNAs encoding the peptides are required to elucidate their physiological functions.
The Rosette Nebula is the most actively star-forming region in the Monoceros OB2 association. This region hosts more than three stellar groups, including the most populous group NGC 2244 at the center of the region and the smaller stellar groups around the border of the H II bubble. To trace their formation process, we investigate the kinematic properties of these groups using the Gaia astrometric data and high-resolution spectra taken from observation with Hectochelle on MMT. The proper motions of stars in NGC 2244 show a pattern of radial expansion. The signature of cluster rotation is also detected from their radial velocities. On the other hand, the small groups appear to be physically associated with some clouds at the ridge of the H II region. Among them, the group near the eastern pillar-like gas structure shows the signature of feedback-driven star formation. In this presentation, we will further discuss the formation process and dynamical evolution of the stellar groups in the Rosette Nebula, based on the observation and results of N-body simulations.

The competition to deliver ultra-low emitting vehicles at a reasonable cost is driving the automotive industry to invest significant manpower and test laboratory resources in the design optimization of increasingly complex exhaust after-treatment systems. Optimization can no longer be based on traditional approaches, which are intensive in hardware use and laboratory testing. The CFD is in high demand for the analysis and design in order to reduce developing cost and time consuming in experiments. This paper describes the development of a comprehensive practical model based on experiments for simulating the performance of automotive three-way catalytic converters, which are employed to reduce engine exhaust emissions. An experiment is conducted to measure species concentrations before and after catalytic converter for different loads on engine. The model simulates the emission system behavior by using an exhaust system heat conservation and catalyst chemical kinetic sub-model. CFD simulation is used to study the performance of automotive catalytic converter. The substrate is modeled as a porous media in FLUENT and the standard k-e model is used for turbulence. The flow pattern is changed from axial to radial by changing the substrate model inside the catalytic converter and the flow distribution and the conversion efficiency of CO, HC and NOx are achieved first, and the predictions are in good agreement with the experimental measurements. It is found that the conversion from axial to radial flow makes the catalytic converter more efficient. These studies help to understand better the performance of the catalytic converter in order to optimize the converter design.

Adaboost is well known for a representative learner as one of the kernel methods. Adaboost which is based on the statistical learning theory shows good generalization performance and has been applied to various pattern recognition problems. However, Adaboost is basically to deal with a two-class classification problem, so we cannot solve directly a multi-class problem with Adaboost. One-Vs-All and Pair-Wise have been applied to solve the multi-class classification problem, which is one of the multi-class problems. The two methods above are ones of the output coding methods, a general approach for solving multi-class problem with multiple binary classifiers, which decomposes a complex multi-class problem into a set of binary problems and then reconstructs the outputs of binary classifiers for each binary problem. However, two methods cannot show good performance. In this paper, we propose the method to solve a multi-target classification problem by using radial basis function of Adaboost weak classifier.
