Vibration-based monitoring is one approach used to perform structural condition assessment. By measuring structural response, such as displacement, dynamic characteristics of a structure may be estimated. Often, the primary dynamic responses in civil structures are below 5 Hz, making accurate low frequency measurement critical for successful dynamic characterization. In addition, static deflection measurements are useful for structural capacity and load rating assessments. This paper presents a DC coupled continuous wave radar to accurately detect both dynamic and static displacement. This low-cost radar sensor provides displacement measurements within a compact, wireless unit appropriate for a range of structural monitoring applications. The hardware components and operating mechanism of the radar are introduced and a series of laboratory experiments are presented to assess the performance characteristics of the radar. The laboratory and field experiments investigate the effect of factors such as target distance, motion amplitude, and motion frequency on the radar's measurement accuracy. The results demonstrate that the radar is capable of both static and dynamic displacement measurements with sub-millimeter accuracy, making it a promising technology for structural health monitoring.
Microwave remote sensing is probably the most recent experimental technique suitable to the non-contact measurement of deflections on large structures, in static or dynamic conditions. In the first part of the paper, the main techniques adopted in microwave remote sensing are described, so that advantages and potential issues of these techniques are presented and discussed. Subsequently, the paper addresses the application of the radar technology to the measurement of the vibration response on the stay cables of two cable-stayed bridges. The dynamic tests were performed in operational conditions (i.e. with the excitation being mainly provided by micro-tremors, wind and traffic) and the maximum deflections of the cables were generally lower than 5.0 mm. The investigation clearly highlights: (a) the safe and simple use of the radar on site and its effectiveness to simultaneously measure the dynamic response of all the stay cables of an array; (b) the negligible effects of the typical issues and uncertainties that might affect the radar measurements; (c) the accuracy of the results provided by the microwave remote sensing in terms of natural frequencies and tension forces of the stay cables; (d) the suitability of microwave interferometry to the repeated application within Structural Health Monitoring programmes.
The presence of voids behind tunnel linings results in their deterioration. One proposed method of effectively detecting such voids by non-destructive means is radar. This research is devoted to quantitatively evaluating the efficiency of such non-destructive tests with radar. As a foundation to this ongoing research, which aims to acquire directional information and estimate the shape of specific voids using radar of three-dipole antenna type, an investigation of microwave polarization methods is carried out with various void orientations and void geometries. As the results, it is clarified that the response of microwave polarization modes depends on void geometry and thus there is a possibility of identifying the geometry and orientation of specific voids using radar of three-dipole antenna type.
Military vehicle equipped with an antenna and a shelter for operating radar has a vibration exposure during driving time. This vibration would have influence on structure of military vehicle critically. In this paper, driving stability of the military vehicle is obtained through the vibration response analysis. And, vibration level of the military vehicle satisfied the military vibration specification through analysis and comparing the MIL-STD-810G. PSD and Grms data obtained by road test can be used for vibration test specification of cabinets and electronic equipment in shelter.
This paper describes the design, the manufacture and the development of th eautomatic gain control unit which ajdusts the gain of IF processor in the high sensitive & multifunctional receiver unit (HMR) for pulse doppler radar system. Accodording to the effective distnce of target, radar cross section, and a lot of external environments (such as clutter), the receiving stage of RADAR system often deviates from dynamic range. To solve this kind o fproblem, continuous/pulse wave AGC are realized, make it possible to control the gain characteristics of receiver stably, and can increase dynamic range linearly by adjusting the gain slope of receiver which is limited by 1-dB gain compression point. In this study, AGC unit is designed to regulate the total gain of receiver by using te analog feedback theory. It also has rapid enough response to process pulse signal. This study presents the gain control method of IF, the real manufacture technique (the package-type components) and the measurement performance of AGC.
Electrical power supply is needed to operate the radar system in the field. In addition, it should not cause performance deterioration under the environmental factors due to characteristics of military equipment, and should not cause malfunction due to electromagnetic waves generated in radar, and then should not cause malfunction in radar equipment. Therefore, By applying a permanent magnet to the rotor of the generator, light weighting and high efficiency of generator were achieved. As a result, electrical performance test of the generator, the rated output power was 80.8 kW, the maximum output power was 88.1 kW, and the output power efficiency was 98.1 % under the full load condition. When the load capacity of the generator was changed from no load to full load, the maximum voltage variation was 3.6 % and the frequency variation was 0.3 %. As a result of the transient response test for measuring the output power of the generator according to the load characteristics change, the maximum voltage variation of 7.9 %, frequency variation of 0.5 % were confirmed, and the transient response time was 2.1 seconds. Environmental tests were conducted in accordance with MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461F to evaluate the operability of the generator groups. Normal operation of radar system generator group was confirmed under high temperature and low temperature environment conditions. Electromagnetic tests were conducted to check if electromagnetic wave generated from both radar system and generator group in operation caused any performance deterioration to each other. As a result, it was confirmed that the performance deterioration due to electromagnetic wave inflow, radiation, and conduction did not occur. It is expected that it should be possible to provide high efficiency power supply and stable power supply by applying to various military system as well as radar system.
일반적으로, 레이다는 표적 분류를 위해 JEM(Jet Engine Modulation) 및 HRR(High Range Resolution), ISAR(Inverse Synthetic Array Radar) 영상 등을 사용하는데, 이러한 기법들은 표적 분류를 위한 별도의(광대역 등) 레이다 파형과 DB(Data Base) 및 분류 알고리즘을 요구한다.
