Effect of acetylated starches (acetylated rice starch and acetylated tapioca starch) on rheological properties of hot pepper-soybean paste (HPSP) at different mixing ratios of rice flour (RF) and acetylated starch (AS) (10/0, 9/1, 8/2, and 7/3) was evaluated in steady and dynamic shear. All HPSP samples at $25^{\circ}C$ exhibited shear-thinning (n=0.31-0.36) and thixotropic behavior with high yield stresses and their steady flow curves were well described by power law and Casson models. The presence of AS resulted in the decrease in consistency index (K), apparent viscosity (${\eta}_{a,100}$), and yield stress (${\sigma}_{oc}$), and their predominant decreases were noticed at higher ratio of RF to AS (7/3 ratio). Arrhenius temperature relationship represents variation with temperature in the range of $5-35^{\circ}C$ with the high determination coefficients ($R^2=0.97-0.99$). Dynamic moduli (G', G", and ${\eta}^*$) values of HPSP samples mixed with AS were lower than those of HPSP with no added AS within the experimental range of frequency (0.63-62.8 rad/sec). Steady and dynamic shear rheological properties of HPSP samples seem to be greatly influenced by the presence of acetylated starch.
The effect of five commercial gums (carboxylmethylcellulose, CMC; guar gum, GG; hydroxypropylmethyl-cellulose, HPMC; locust bean gum, LBG; and xanthan gum) at a concentration of 0.25% on the rheological properties of rice flour (RF) dispersions was investigated in steady and dynamic shear. The steady shear rheological properties showed that RF gum mixture dispersions (5%, w/w) at $25^{\circ}C$ had high shear-thinning flow behavior (n=0.20-0.31) exhibiting a yield stress. Magnitudes of consistency index (K), apparent viscosity (${\eta}_{a,100}$), and Casson yield stress (${\sigma}_{oc}$) of RF-gum mixtures were much higher than those of RF dispersion with no added gum (control). Activation energy values (6.67-10.8 kJ/mole) of RF-gum mixtures within the temperature range of $25-70^{\circ}C$ were lower than that (11.9 kJ/mole) of the control. Dynamic rheological data of log (G', G") versus log frequency (${\omega}$) of RF-gum mixtures had positive slopes (0.15-0.37) with G' greater than G" over most of the frequency range (0.63-63 rad/sec), demonstrating a frequency dependency. Tan ${\delta}$ (G"/G') values of RF-gum mixtures, except for xanthan gum, were much higher than that of the control.
During meiosis, programmed double-strand breaks (DSBs) are repaired via recombination pathways that are required for faithful chromosomal segregation and genetic diversity. In meiotic progression, the non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) pathway is suppressed and instead meiotic recombination initiated by nucleolytic resection of DSB ends is the major pathway employed. This requires diverse recombinase proteins and regulatory factors involved in the formation of crossovers (COs) and non-crossovers (NCOs). In mitosis, spontaneous DSBs occurring at the G1 phase are predominantly repaired via NHEJ, mediating the joining of DNA ends. The Ku complex binds to these DSB ends, inhibiting additional DSB resection and mediating end joining with Dnl4, Lif1, and Nej1, which join the Ku complex and DSB ends. Here, we report the role of the Ku complex in DSB repair using a physical analysis of recombination in Saccharomyces cerevisiae during meiosis. We found that the Ku complex is not essential for meiotic progression, DSB formation, joint molecule formation, or CO/NCO formation during normal meiosis. Surprisingly, in the absence of the Ku complex and functional Mre11-Rad50-Xrs2 (MRX) complex, a large portion of meiotic DSBs was repaired via the recombination pathway to form COs and NCOs. Our data suggested that Ku complex prevents meiotic recombination in the elimination of MRX activity.

In laser material processing for high thermal conductivity, the thermal effect of laser beam shape was examined through computer simulations. In this paper, a circular beam with a focal radius of $500{\mu}m$, an elliptical beam with a major axis of 4 mm and a minor axis of 1 mm, and a rotating beam with a focal radius of $500{\mu}m$ and an angular velocity of 5 rad/sec were compared. Simulation results showed that there was no clear difference in the maximum temperature between the circular focus and the elliptical shape, but the heating and cooling rates were different. The simulation result for a laser beam rotating in a circular pattern with a radius of 5 mm showed an asymmetric temperature rise due to the combination of linear and rotational motion. At points where the rotational and linear speeds combined, the temperature gradually rose and reached the maximum temperature; whereas at points where the rotational and linear speeds were attenuated, the temperature tended to gradually decrease after reaching the maximum temperature. Based on the results of this study, the authors expect to be able to optimize laser material processing by designing patterns of laser beams.
Precise prediction of the radiation interaction position in scintillators plays an important role in medical and industrial imaging systems. In this research, the incident position of the gamma rays was predicted precisely in a plastic rod scintillator by using attenuation technique and multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural network, for the first time. Also, this procedure was performed using nonlinear regression (NLR) method. The experimental setup is comprised of a plastic rod scintillator (BC400) coupled with two PMTs at two sides, a $^{60}Co$ gamma source and two counters that record count rates. Using two proposed techniques (ANN and NLR), the radiation interaction position was predicted in a plastic rod scintillator with a mean relative error percentage less than 4.6% and 14.6%, respectively. The mean absolute error was measured less than 2.5 and 5.5. The correlation coefficient was calculated 0.998 and 0.984, respectively. Also, the ANN technique was confirmed by leave-one-out (LOO) method with 1% error. These results presented the superiority of the ANN method in comparison with NLR and the other methods. The technique and set up used are simpler and faster than other the previous position sensitive detectors. Thus, the time, cost and shielding and electronics requirements are minimized and optimized.

The mask parameters of a coded aperture are critical design features when optimizing the performance of a gamma-ray camera. In this paper, experiments and Monte Carlo simulations were performed to derive the minimum detectable activity (MDA) when one seeks a real-time imaging capability. First, the impact of the thickness of the modified uniformly redundant array (MURA) mask on the image quality is quantified, and the imaging of point, line, and surface radiation sources is demonstrated using both cross-correlation (CC) and maximum likelihood expectation maximization (MLEM) methods. Second, the minimum detectable activity is also derived for real-time imaging by altering the factors used in the image quality assessment, consisting of the peak-to-noise ratio (PSNR), the normalized mean square error (NMSE), the spatial resolution (full width at half maximum; FWHM), and the structural similarity (SSIM), all evaluated as a function of energy and mask thickness. Sufficiently sharp images were reconstructed when the mask thickness was approximately 2 cm for a source energy between 30 keV and 1.5 MeV and the minimum detectable activity for real-time imaging was 23.7 MBq at 1 m distance for a 1 s collection time.
Purpose: This study was a descriptive study to identify the factors affecting the dementia prevention behavior of elders in rural communities. Methods: The participants in this study were 125 elders aged 60 or older who lived in Eup or Myeon areas of P city. For data analysis, SPSS/WIN 22.0 was used to perform descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and linear multiple regression and mediated effects. Results: Scores for dementia recognition, dementia attitude and dementia prevention behavior averaged 5.6±2.50 points in the 0~11 range, 38.8±4.59 in 14~56 and 20.2±3.59 in 10~30 respectively. Dementia recognition (a), dementia attitude (b), dementia prevention behavior (c) and the number of chronic diseases of the elders (d) were positively or negatively correlated with each other (rab=.29, p<.01; rbc=.26, p<.01; rac=.36, p<.01; rad=-.29, p<.01; rcd=.19, p<.05). Factors affecting dementia prevention behavior were dementia recognition, dementia attitude, and degree of dementia interest. When the number of chronic diseases affects dementia prevention behavior, dementia recognition has a mediating effect. Conclusion: In order to prevent dementia among elders in rural areas, appropriate management of chronic diseases and provision of appropriate dementia-related education and information to enhance dementia recognition should be provided.
To evaluate the wind shielding effect of bridge towers with multiple limbs on high-speed trains, a wind tunnel test was conducted to investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of vehicles traversing multi-limb towers, which represented a combination of the steady aerodynamic coefficient of the vehicle-bridge system and wind environment around the tower. Subsequently, the analysis model of wind-vehicle-bridge (WVB) system considering the additional moments caused by lift and drag forces under nonuniform wind was proposed, and the reliability and accuracy of the proposed model of WVB system were verified using another model. Finally, the factors influencing the wind shielding effect of multi-limb towers were analyzed. The results indicate that the wind speed distributions along the span exhibit two sudden changes, and the wind speed generally decreases with increasing wind direction angle. The pitching and yawing accelerations of vehicles under nonuniform wind loads significantly increase due to the additional pitching and yawing moments. The sudden change values of the lateral and yawing accelerations caused by the wind shielding effect of multi-limb tower are 0.43 m/s2 and 0.11 rad/s2 within 0.4 s, respectively. The results indicate that the wind shielding effect of a multi-limb tower is the controlling factor in WVB systems.
This experiment was performed to investigate the X-ray sensitivities at the various stages of life cycle and to determine the sterillizing dose of stable fly, Stomoxys calcitrans(L). A dose of 300 rad caused about $50\%$ mortality in 2-hour-old eggs as measured by egg hatch, and $100\%$ mortality was obtained with a does of 1 Krad. Sub-lethal dose $(LD_{50})$ for the pupal mortality after irradiation of 3-5days old pupae were 11.5 Krad and the mortality was decreased with increasing pupal age at irradition. A significant reduction of egg hatch by $1.5\%$ was observed when treated males with 3 Krad at pupal stage were mated to untreated virgin femleas. On the other hand, $100\%$ sterility in females was resulted by 2 Krad irradiation and oviposition was completely inhibited with 3 Krad. Thus, both sexes of stable fly could be sterilized with a dose of 4 Krad irradiated to 3-5 days old pupae.

A test program was conducted on seismic-resistant steel moment connections constructed using Reduced Beam Sections with beam web openings. In the connection, in order to enhance ductility capacity under severe cyclic loads, a portion of the beam web near the beam-to-column connection is cut out instead of the beam flange as in dogbone connections. A total of 4 large scale specimens were tested in this program. The specimens were all made using $H-458{\times}417{\times}30{\times}50$ sections for the columns and $H-792{\times}300{\times}14{\times}22$ sections for the beams. Test specimens showed excellent performance similar to that of dogbone connections.
